Let's say there's 10,000 new fusion power plants built on a smart grid that never goes down.. Let's say magic ultracapacitors can store 500 miles of range on a car that charges up in one minute. No more coal, no more oil, and unlimited zero-polluting energy. It would unleash an era of unprecidented growth and abundance for all peoples of earth..Everyone could attain the lifestyle of the rich and famous.. but then what? Does there exist enough standing timber to build 4 billion new McMansions?

Imho deforestation will become a huge problem after oil production starts to decline...

I'm not an electrical engineer but it seems to me that using a ac/dc inverter is kinda of a retrofit, as dc is safer then ac and is only nessacary for carrying electricity over long distances so the inverter is extraneous if they made household devices that run on dc, which stores better too.

Hey I want one of those Citgo signs so I can remember the old days of cheap,available liguid fuel so I can tell the youngens, they won't belive me.

i was just having a discussion about chopping wood (really, splitting wood) over lunch at the wagon wheel a few days ago. i miss it. really, splitting wood is one of my favorite things to do. chopping down trees not as exciting, and better with a chainsaw. oil-powered, i know.
