  • This show gets better in the later seasons, not worse! The laughs are still flying but the heart and emotions are much more robust, and the characters are more consistent. This one is probably my favorite episode -- along with Daphne Does Dinner, which is the funniest.

  • Man, this is definitely one of my favourite episodes of Frasier. Just perfection.

  • Love how everybody has their way of coping with the problem.

Frasier goes all technical and want's to know it all.

Martin get chirpy and pretends like it's all good.

    Daphne is a wreck.

  • Man, this show went so downhill after Niles and Daphne go together... Frasier should have kept being a comedy, and stopped trying to be a comedic drama

  • @BEANPOLE111 I have to say I totally disagree with you. I think one of the best things about Frasier is the fact that it's not just an all-happy just-laughs comedy. I have never seen another show with a better balance between comedy and drama than Frasier.

  • @Mulksa I'm sure some people feel that way. But for me its like this... There are plenty of TV shows I can watch if I want a stimulating drama or thriller, etc... But when it comes to a show labeled as a comedy, I expect to laugh. When I watch an episode like this, I end up laughing like a third of the amount I usually would during the older seasons... I think the show should have stuck to its strength. Some shows can mix comedy and drama well but I don't think Frasier pulls it off.

  • Niles and Niles!

  • Damn … never though Niles (Frasier) would’ve been treated by Niles (The Nanny). And forgive me this weakness, but not every show can keep up quality in the later seasons.

  • 20:43 the scene with the doctor always gets to me.

  • Niles' monologue about the hospital was one of the best writing moments in Frasier history.

  • From an eccentric psychic who fluffs Frasiers underpants, to this drama - the writers can certainly develop characters. It takes some confidence to not end an episode with a funny punchline, Frasier does it often.

  • Frasier acting like a baby when the doc puts him in his place, priceless :)

  • "why is he so pale"

    "he's always this pale."

  • This episode proved the show could just as well do drama and comedy. One of my favourites.

  • this is the most serious episode of Frasier but I LOVE that we see - almost - Maris!!! 10:53 I laugh so hard when I see this, it's typical Maris reaction

  • @otium444 oh yeah :D we see maris

  • Jane's acting is great!!!!what are u guys talking about?????

  • @5botball Jane is totally da bomb! <3

  • I think from the beginning of the episode you can tell this was meant to be a pretty serious episode. Laughing is awkward for this one.

  • @ryanisreporting i thought this is one of the most funny ever, but also sweet and serious. <3

  • @ryanisreporting yet as we all by this point have been in those waiting rooms.. the laughter is the most awkward loving laughter.. you need it.. but underneath that one person is bout to break........... such a wonderfully done scene

  • "Frasier, you're not operating on your brother."

  • idk y, but this is one of my fave eps

  • lol Niles and Miles

  • 8:24 I never heard my father say that to me

  • This whole thing broke my heart. :'(

  • 20:55 That just breaks my heart..

  • sweetest episode..

  • One of the best episodes ever. The sadness and joy a perfect mix, bringing tears and smiles by turn.

  • It's kind of funny (and true), what Niles said about hospitals. It really is where a lot of life happens. You would have to be a really professional doctor/nurse ect. to not always be affected by that.

  • Look! It's Niles from The Nanny!

  • My dad had heart valve replacement a year ago, and the 7 1/2 hours in the waiting room was the longest day of my life. And seeing him grey and with tubes and wires everywhere after was horrible. But, he's back flying his helicopter again and good as new! (Better actually since he takes his health more serious now!!)

  • @jaysu73 my mom had that about 7 years ago, heart valve replacement surgery, i was in high school at the time, i remember how in the waiting room was the hardest part, i had everyone of my frends texting me to see how i was doing, and how my mom was, and happy to say my mom is also doing well now too :)

  • This episode is ART

  • I don't think Jane's acting is as bad as some people are making it out to be. Yeah..... it's kind of text book, but she doesn't deserve what some of you all are saying!

  • That guy who comes in at 19:39 is the worst actor I've ever seen. How did he get on Frasier.

  • @uploader10041986 OMG! I know right.... I was like.. what the hell???? Is he someone's neighbour or something??? lol.

  • i thoought there was going to be more kendall :(

  • They are pumping it into the operating room lol

  • This is the best episode in the series. It even won the WGA Award.

  • what was the episode before this?

  • @hailzmarie1 Bristle While You Work

  • I cannot understand how people can belittle janes acting, she´s the best actress of the whole cast!

I´ve seen this episode a couple of times but her performance gives me the goosebumps every single time!

    But tastes differ I guess...

  • I loved how they show the flashbacks in the hospital rooms. It gives this episode substance, and it's heart touching. There's just no TV like this anymore.

  • I love this episode - but it always maks it cry. They love each other so much :)

  • I loved this episode. I dont know why it has several negative comments.

It was different and great. I understood completely why Daph behaved that way .

  • Daphne is acting like a cow !

  • frasier has way too much time on his hands!

  • whats the episode before this?

  • @hailzmarie1

    "Bristle While You Work"

  • Dramatic acting isn't really Jane Leeves's strong suit

  • Zomg! Niles from the Nanny!!! ^_^

  • but frasier is still a funny show[:

  • thumbs up if you only watched this to see kendall.♥

  • Jane Leeves is really not in the same league as the rest of the cast. She really can't pull of anything without annoying the hell out of me

  • great bit at the end, just keep clicking that morphine drip and laughing. for me it was morphine and staring at Lifetime channel. the things we do in extreme pain

  • I only watched this because of Kendall Schmidt.♥[:

  • That was interesting, all of them saw the past, but Daphne saw the future. This was a great episode.

  • This episode makes me well up inside everytime..captures the anxiety of major surgery perfectly

  • Didn't Niles and Daphne first had a son (David, I think)? And here they show a future where it looks like the firstborn is a girl, sitting on Niles his arm.. But eventually who cares, this show is just amazing :)

  • @rockrules93 There were different writers for this season so that is the reason why Niles and Daphne's first child is a girl. It's later changed to a boy as the original writers came back for the last season. They also made the child a boy as to honor the show's creator David Angell. I do believe that Niles and Daphne's second child is a girl though.

  • @ddjmfan Thanks :)! I didn't know that. So now it's also clear why Niles and Daphne called their son David :), I think it's a beautiful gesture by the way.. It shows how great and humble these writers are

  • Brilliantly moving.

  • I only watched this for Kendall Schmidt even though it was hard to recognize him even though I already knew he played young Frasier in this episode

  • Watching this compounds how vastly superior a show like Frasier was to the likes of Two and a Half Men. Compare the investment in characters those two shows have. Two and a Half Men - 9 seasons in, the writers did not even have enough faith in the audience to show any pathos for Charlie's demise. But in a true classic, as Frasier was, the writers didn't try to elicit a cheap laugh every five seconds. If you pay attention, Jane Leeves was not given one funny line in this episode. Pure brilliance

  • @meldme You're right, I didn't notice that until now. This episode proved that Jane could do drama as well as comedy. I thought she was and still is a brilliant actress. I feel that she doesn't get the credit she deserves. This is one of my favorite episodes. I always seem to tear up every time I watch it, it's that good.

  • I love this episode here. It got me thinking about life in general and also about Death. isnt it tragic how irriconsilable and wexing life can be. I wonder how would I feel and what i would be thinking as the last breaths slip away. huuuh. what a life.

  • @hailzmarie1 She can't really watch people fall apart on the other side of the room, she's got a job to do and if there's any threat of violence or criminal damage at any point it would make perfect sense to call security, especially from an outsiders point of view. Thanks for yours.

  • @hailzmarie1 I have to respectfully disagree.... Daphne doesn't have the 'right' to damage hospital property, no one does. I know how difficult and stressful it is to be in a hospital, worried about someone.. but if each person who felt frustrated grabbed a fire extinguisher and broke something, well, it'd be unacceptable.

The nurse was right to call security, if for no other reason than to make sure Daphne won't break anything else.

  • The word "cheek" was looped in at 15:08.

  • I think Daphne's reaction is more out of frustration that everyone is being a pain in the ass around her.. Fiddling with the damn vending machine, looking for change, wining about magazines and what is available... Daphne want someone to support her, listen to her. She's feeling alone and everyone else has their head up their ass.. I think that's why she smashed the vending machine.

  • Frasier you're not operating on your brother! XD

  • its like frasier... stfu with the timetable, pls!!

  • 22:20 might be a Daphne physic flash, she seems to dead on with those as it concerns niles

  • ah the doctor is niles from the show the nanny! hahaha

  • 22:20 Considering they got a boy on the first shot, is it safe to assume that this is just part of Daph's imagination of the future? I would not be surprised that Peter Casey and David Lee by 2002 already had plans to give Daph and Niles a boy to name him after David Angell.

  • 21:01 I know it's a poignant flashback from c. 1987 but I have to comment on one thing...the doctor put the chest x-ray backwards; the heart is supposed to be more on the LHS of the chest

  • @corrupt200 Hmm. Someone noted that in the opening credits in Scrubs they put the X-ray backwards, too. Zach Braff (JD) explained in an interview that the cast plays it off by saying that as interns they are SUPPOSED to do that. But there is no justification for this one, huh? It must drive you CRAZY when you see that.

  • wow... i've always thought jane was better at comedy than in drama... i never liked it when she cried. But her whole performance was... wow. Even the times when she wasn't talking resonated with me

  • I adore how niles whispers 'he's always this pale....'

  • @JessOnTheRun you suck Jane leeves is an amazing actress and ur just an idiot, shut up and stop making all these negative comments no one agrees with you at all.

  • I love this show!!!

  • @JessOnTheRun Jeez if you don't like her so much nobody is forcing you to watch the show!

  • NIles! and Niles!

  • the best character EVER

  • @KISSFAN4EVER6 Yeah. Isn't that great?!

  • Daphne is beautiful.

  • @JessOnTheRun No shes not !!!

  • @TheCheesy12345 It's ok, he actually makes an incredibly negative comment on every single video. I don't know why he watches something that he seems to hate so much!

  • @TranceStarr I think he's a closet frasier fan and is just trying to annoy everyone for the hell of it. :P

  • Contrary to some of the comments below, I don't think we can condemn someone for reacting oddly during such a terrible moment in their life. The point of the episode is to show how different people react to grief and some people really do react in an extreme way, like Daphne.

  • tearjerker!!!!

  • I agree Captain, I have Follicullar Lymphona and have been going through chemotherapy for many months now and trust me I haven't had the urge to 'break or smash' anything. Although my parents and brother could relate to that feeling more than I could. @natyan32, you're correct too...she was a wee bit too emotional. @BulgariaAir737...Danial Davis made 'The Nanny', IMHO. He is a brilliant actor.

@Katzeleine & @jo05dk, this is one of the most memorable episodes in the Frasier library.

  • @kellmax001 Hey....how are you doing by the way? You have every right to smash something and when you are done keep fighting! Stay strong. Many, many, many blessings your way.

  • They made Daphne waaaaaaay too emotional during these episodes.

  • @natyan32 I agree with that. We all have been to the hospital and have had to deal with loved ones being sick or dying but I don't recall ever having the urge to go smash open a vending machine! She's a psycho,

  • @TheCaptainQuantum ....and besides...she is supposed to be an in-home healthcare worker. If anyone she is supposed to be able to deal with sickness and an hospital setting. Hahaha. Oversight by the writers?

  • Dr.Shaffer(not sure if its the right spelling) also plays "Niles" in "The Nanny". The actor's name is actually Daniel Davis.

  • @BulgariaAir737 I knew I recognized that son of a bitch.

  • @BulgariaAir737 Good eye and recall.

  • This is really a great episode!

  • One of my all time favourite Frasier episodes. Gets me every time.
