@mynameismatt2010 Where did you get these figures from? I'm vegetarian and mostly eat vegan and find it *much* cheaper than an omni diet. As far as I know the claim that vegetarians/vegans live longer turns out not to be true if you take into account other lifestyle factors like smoking, but I haven't seen the 'healthy omnis live 5 years longer' anywhere. What is enjoyable is entirely subjective of course, but for the rest of your claims: citation needed.

@Nephtys80 I got those figures from a few different places, one was my health and human anatomy class, another was a journal of health that i think was published in 2003 (i don't have it anymore so i don't know exactly when it was published for sure) As for how much it costs, that's comparing my three vegetarian freinds compared to myself and two other omni eaters, we're all the same age and roughly the same hieght and weight, over 4 months all three of them had spent more than any of the omnis.

@DasZuckerhaus He only did it for a month though. I think it takes most people a little time to learn to adjust the way they cook and discover new things to eat and ways to prepare them. Also, not to cast aspersions on Hank's cooking, but being smart does not necessarily mean you're a good cook... :-)

@DasZuckerhaus I know people who can follow a recipe but still don't produce very nice meals :) or are not good at judging what recipes they'll like. There are elements of practice and talent to * good * cooking :) It takes some people longer to adjust (especially if they're used to eating a lot of pre-prepared and processed food), no matter how motivated they are, and I wouldn't want to discourage them by going "Pft, it's easy' when they're struggling. Vegan (and a good cook :D) myself too :)

@Nephtys80 of course i wouldn't wanna discourage anyone, i say you wont even really struggle when you actually try ^^ not but seriously.. its not rocket science ;), you just need to get a hang of what you like & thats basically getting to know urself better so not a bad thing to miss :)...i have never used a recipe in my life i get inspired by it and then tweak it to my preferences .. thats what everyone who struggles should try ^^ :3

I'm a practicing vegetarian Hank, and I have to agree that sometimes it really isn't easy to make such a dietary change- but it's easier if you slowly ease your way into it- it gives your body time to adjust, and it gives you time to find food alternatives- if you (or any other nerd fighters) ever decided to go veggie, my best advice would be to invest in a rice cooker, and experiment from there. :)

the microwave thing isnt exactly true. the wavelength of radiation emitted by microwaves reverses the orbit of the shared electrons in water molecules. this dysfunction causes the water to vibrate which produces the heat that cooks your food. that is why foods with no water dont warm up in the microwave. however, this now frenetic water when it goes into the receptor sites in your body it doesnt fit so nice anymore causing cellular damage :(
