@flpc1981 this entire album can make a person very sad, my friend. especially if you add 3 or 4 parts purple micro dots. it a beautiful thing . . . (let down your puppet strings)
people should stop complaining how mgmt covered the song, they did great and are a great band just like bauhaus, at least kids bop or something covered the song
@moeezS amazing show cant even compare to hangover thats all humour i melt with you is about the human spirit and how torn it can get. such an emotional film amazing.
So tired of all the re-makes these days. I think it detracts from the attention the original ought to receive. Everyone just out to make an easy buck now. No more creative spirit. Please be one of those who will bring it back.
Yes Bauhaus was better. But lets give credit where credit is due, MGMT did a good cover. They didn't really change anything cause really what needed changing? :) thats the way I look at it. MGMT actually makes pretty good music of their own to boot, I hope MGMT makes it to be one of the greats, maybe never on the scale of Bauhaus, but at least one worth remembering.
MGMT did it well. But they didn't move it in a particular direction. They didn't change to the style of MGMT, so it was quite a pointless cover. And it doesn't have the raw feeling or originality that this one does. Original are always better, there are a very small amount of exceptions.
im a huge MGMT fan (sorry hardcore bauhaus fans) and their late night tales album has opened up so much different music that I either didnt know about, or just wouldnt have given a chance. now all I find myself listening to is bauhaus, the velvet underground, and spacemen 3.
@eyalster Agreed. Agreed. I thought it was nice though to see quite a mainstream group, much far from the genre of this, recognizing a band like Bauhaus
I dont know for you guys, but I always like more the song I hear first, in this case it was MGMT. Why all the hate comments? Let's be glad Bauhaus got new fans
This is so plastic snakes at a birthday party to me...in the early eighties I was just a child, I first heard Bauhaus when I was about 14, yet still the atmosphere of that age pervades this song, aaahh......
@MrKbry20 Yeah, it's not as good as the original. So what? MGMT has incredible taste and music and makes some good tunes that pay tribute to a lot of old school artists in the mainstream world of today. How cool is that?
@Anestheticfun I hope meant 'have' rather than 'has'? Otherwise, you am a twart. I am so sick of wankers referring to bands as objects; it's sad, pathetic and exactly what the record companies want you to do. A band is people, not a thing.
@Spankabuttux hey asshole; check yourself. when i said 'has' i meant it as a collective of people. i know within a band there are people (yes, human beings! crazy, right?), in fact i've talked with MGMT (yes, the GROUP of people in a band, no WAY, right?) before at a show. they are good folks. (maybe) next time, i'll refer to them as vanwyngarden, goldwasser, asti, richardson, and berman for picky losers on youtube like you... NOT.
@Anestheticfun Um, maybe that made sense when you wrote it, but to me....sorry, what are you trying to say? Please translate that ignorant waffle into English, maybe then I can respond.
shut the fuck up; of course this is better than the mgmt cover of the song for the simple reason a cover of a song can never be better than the original. all mgmt tried to do is showing this good music to their fans with the idea their fans will listen and discover new bands that are worth to be heard. now sit on your asses and respect both of the bands
@mgmt5397 What style did MGMT pioneer? Oh yeah, they have no style and wear t-shirts and jeans like everyone else. I like MGMT, but their covers are NEVER as good as the originals, and i think their audience needs an education in 70s and 80s no wave/new wave music.
@mgmt5397 David Bowie wannabes? Yes, he is clearly one of their biggest influences. They covered Ziggy Stardust after performing Bela Legosi's Dead in the film the hunger that costared David Bowie (which gained them a cult goth following). But bottom line, Bauhaus created the style that came to embody Goth Rock, Bowie pioneered the style of Glam Rock. MGMT probably idolizes Bauhaus as much as bauhaus idolized bowie (mgmt idolizes bowie too). Peter Murphy's voice > Andrew VanWyngarden's voice.
FORREAL, it's actually insanely insanely good. i work for an artist management co and they keep playing it in the office. biggups to MGMT for not fucking it up

@666Angelfuck God fuckin damn RIGHT!!! i mean, if someone has the gall to hit that dislike button on THIS.....total grounds for spending an eternity in the lake of fire
@blitzshriek999 i grew up on punk bands like the sex pistols, the exploited, the subhumans, and the Bauhaus. they are what got me into punk.i seen the NYC hardcore and strait edge scene, the 90s grunge which was a great time all these awesome bands popping up everywhere i can truly say those were the best times of my life.im still the same guy i dress the same im covered in tattoos .now it seems everyone's a poser! god bless gen x.
@666Angelfuck YEP-i remember the red x's on the back of hands-straight edge scene-I remember stagediving b4 the jocks fucked it up-in fact, at the exploited show I was thrown so high that i fuckin soared over the crowd and landed on Watties head(cuz just went on screamin in the mic like it was nothin!).....and i remember hangin out with citizen fish(formerly subhumans)...thx 4 the reminders. those days are SORELY missed...'cause, like the tattoos, they used to MEAN something.
Brings back fond memories when I was 18 in 1982. Sadly, the world didn't get any bettter, too much hate, too much cruelty. Best leave the world on its own and watch the skies........................

Would love to hear what Kanye thinks of this song, heh. As for me, *beautifulness*. Fave Bauhaus song, one of my fave songs of all time. >>>GRATITUDE<<<
Bauhaus is STILL one of the best representations of feelings that I have had the pleasure of enjoying. Very few bands are as stirring and soulful. Ok, I have to go back and listen again.

I was lying on the floor too, suffering from the worst headache and trying to shut out the light with my eyelids. Soon the atmosphere had grown so tense, and our "silence" so intense, that my friend left the room. I didn´t need to open my eyes to picture the scene perfectly: each of us lost in our thoughts, and even more, lost to the beauty of this.
@InsomniumX Then, when the song ended, I got up and left the room, but not before taking a good look at the two girls I loved--all I ever wanted, was everything.
I´ll never forget the first time I heard this song. There were four of us at my house--my friend, me, and the two girls I loved. One was lying on my couch; the other, on the floor. One was well aware of my feelings for both, the other wasn´t. One was my lover, and the other one, well, I would have never been able to tell what were to the other. She had brought her Bauhaus Live DVD, but both loved the band already, so we just left the music running at max volume.
this song is the epitome of what I can only describe as a synthesis of both essences of intellectuality and noistalgia...
How the simple bass mends with the guitar and the brief, somewhat abstract yet so very powerful lyrics make for an incredible balance... Peter's oh-so heartbreaking cry topping it off...
"Oh to be the cream"
This is a song you should only listen to during the most pleasant weather in the most recumbant position you can be in.

this song is the epitome of what I can only describe as a synthesis of both essences of intellectuality and noistalgia...
Thank you for uploading this song
