  • never heard of MGMT

  • I came here because of MGMT. Is that truly a bad thing?

  • @AirduinecSI Yes! :D

  • @dawnriddler

While I'm glad of your enthusiasm, it is quite illogical to turn people away from a band you like. Lol.

  • @AirduinecSI I'm not turning anyone away i just think you should feel guilty that you didn't hear this first :P :D

  • I don't really know or understand what a lot of the comments are about...I just wanted to say that I thought this was a beautiful song, and it has some meaning in my life, if sadly. I connected with the artists that wrote this, and for that I am thankful.

  • the commercial that plays in the middle totally killed my boner.

  • Great song, great cover. I have said all I need to say.

  • Don't diss etheir of the bands . This is good music people... so stfu

  • ...who the fuck are MGMT...?

  • Comment removed

  • if it makes an MGMT fan turn to bauhaus, then good. they turned me to Eno on this album, and I'm thankful.

  • @sharrison586 Eno is awesome, huh? I listened to them in 1979 when everyone else was Led Zep etc...

  • My mom had this CD when I was a kid... I never appreciated it til now.

  • i love this song because it makes me sad.

  • @flpc1981 this entire album can make a person very sad, my friend. especially if you add 3 or 4 parts purple micro dots. it a beautiful thing . . . (let down your puppet strings)

  • @LedGratefulAllmanBro other way around dude

  • people should stop complaining how mgmt covered the song, they did great and are a great band just like bauhaus, at least kids bop or something covered the song

  • bauhaus or die!!!! fuck you MGMT

  • I Melt with You used this perfectly. A bunch of Hangover types start reflecting how much of a failure they are.

  • @moeezS amazing show cant even compare to hangover thats all humour i melt with you is about the human spirit and how torn it can get. such an emotional film amazing.

  • I Melt with you bring me here....such a perfect song.

  • I melt with you!

  • I see this as a good thing... it'll open Bauhaus up to a younger audience.

  • CAN wait to NOT hear the MGMT cover

  • So tired of all the re-makes these days. I think it detracts from the attention the original ought to receive. Everyone just out to make an easy buck now. No more creative spirit. Please be one of those who will bring it back.

  • this is a great cover of MGMT lol I mean.............. MGMT did a good cover of this song

  • Yes Bauhaus was better. But lets give credit where credit is due, MGMT did a good cover. They didn't really change anything cause really what needed changing? :) thats the way I look at it. MGMT actually makes pretty good music of their own to boot, I hope MGMT makes it to be one of the greats, maybe never on the scale of Bauhaus, but at least one worth remembering.

  • MGMT did it well. But they didn't move it in a particular direction. They didn't change to the style of MGMT, so it was quite a pointless cover. And it doesn't have the raw feeling or originality that this one does. Original are always better, there are a very small amount of exceptions.

  • im a huge MGMT fan (sorry hardcore bauhaus fans) and their late night tales album has opened up so much different music that I either didnt know about, or just wouldnt have given a chance. now all I find myself listening to is bauhaus, the velvet underground, and spacemen 3.

  • So David J. . . .

  • guys lets stop crying here. This song is perfect ok. and MGMT did an amazing job too!

  • MAGIC! Thanks so much for posting the original.

  • what a beautiful record, what words and emotion

  • @sarahshiner1 THANK YOU!!!!

  • My personal opinion on the Bauhaus\MGMT subject is that both songs sounds the SAME (!). MGMT really didnt moved far from the original

Anyway, it took me 20 years back in a flash... and for thet only, MGMT should get my full respect

  • @eyalster Agreed. Agreed. I thought it was nice though to see quite a mainstream group, much far from the genre of this, recognizing a band like Bauhaus

  • I dont know for you guys, but I always like more the song I hear first, in this case it was MGMT. Why all the hate comments? Let's be glad Bauhaus got new fans

  • Comment removed

  • This is so plastic snakes at a birthday party to me...in the early eighties I was just a child, I first heard Bauhaus when I was about 14, yet still the atmosphere of that age pervades this song, aaahh......

  • Take your MGMT comments and apply them to their version, here is for Bauhaus.

  • my fucking good musical taste brought me here, so fuck off, little girls and boys

  • all i hear is andrew bird's "tenuousness" when i hear this... but that's good because i love andrew bird and now i'm interested in this band!

  • the cover isnt as good but i love MGMT so its awesome to me

  • It makes me sad that the top comments are about MGMT :\

  • @lnd337 Agreed. This song is leagues better. MGMT sucked the soul out of it, in my opinion.

  • @lnd337 wtf is mgmt ? this song cannot be re-made, dont even try, ok ?

  • @lnd337

It makes me sad that a top comment is ignorant.

Wait, never mind.. that's what YouTube is for.

  • MGMT's version lacks passion and sounds wrong

  • @MrKbry20 you lack passion and sound wrong

  • @MrKbry20 Yeah, it's not as good as the original. So what? MGMT has incredible taste and music and makes some good tunes that pay tribute to a lot of old school artists in the mainstream world of today. How cool is that?

  • @Anestheticfun I hope meant 'have' rather than 'has'? Otherwise, you am a twart. I am so sick of wankers referring to bands as objects; it's sad, pathetic and exactly what the record companies want you to do. A band is people, not a thing.

  • @Spankabuttux hey asshole; check yourself. when i said 'has' i meant it as a collective of people. i know within a band there are people (yes, human beings! crazy, right?), in fact i've talked with MGMT (yes, the GROUP of people in a band, no WAY, right?) before at a show. they are good folks. (maybe) next time, i'll refer to them as vanwyngarden, goldwasser, asti, richardson, and berman for picky losers on youtube like you... NOT.

  • @Anestheticfun Um, maybe that made sense when you wrote it, but to me....sorry, what are you trying to say? Please translate that ignorant waffle into English, maybe then I can respond.

  • Comment removed

  • shut the fuck up; of course this is better than the mgmt cover of the song for the simple reason a cover of a song can never be better than the original. all mgmt tried to do is showing this good music to their fans with the idea their fans will listen and discover new bands that are worth to be heard. now sit on your asses and respect both of the bands

  • @sarahshiner1 So untrue, Johnny Cash version of Hurt is far better than the NIN one.

  • @sarahshiner1 heeey how u know i wasa sittin down?!?!

  • @sarahshiner1 ...The Marilyn Manson cover of Sweet Dreams are made of these is so much better.

  • @TheFoolyCoolyKid

    Just STFU

  • @TheFoolyCoolyKid Marilyn Manson is a poser that wouldn't have a spotlight if it weren't for bands like Bauhaus.

  • @nolovelost92 so by your logic the clash's version of i fought the law is inferior to the crickets'...?

  • so glad I was born years ago so I could have this music when I was leaving school!

  • i thought bauhaus covered ziggy way before they were in the hunger?

  • @mgmt5397 What style did MGMT pioneer? Oh yeah, they have no style and wear t-shirts and jeans like everyone else. I like MGMT, but their covers are NEVER as good as the originals, and i think their audience needs an education in 70s and 80s no wave/new wave music.

  • @lesstutrey don't forget the floor length ty-dye poncho's, my friend..

  • @mgmt5397 David Bowie wannabes? Yes, he is clearly one of their biggest influences. They covered Ziggy Stardust after performing Bela Legosi's Dead in the film the hunger that costared David Bowie (which gained them a cult goth following). But bottom line, Bauhaus created the style that came to embody Goth Rock, Bowie pioneered the style of Glam Rock. MGMT probably idolizes Bauhaus as much as bauhaus idolized bowie (mgmt idolizes bowie too). Peter Murphy's voice > Andrew VanWyngarden's voice.

  • mgmt cover is awesome, something abotu the voice, makes it much sweeter

  • the mgmt cover is pretty standard, nothing too different at all

  • Ohhh I like both versions :] <3

  • 3 people accidentally disliked this crappy ad before hearing the song.

  • Love it! MGMT's cover is pretty awesome too.

  • what is this amazing music?! asdfghgfds

  • They were SO much more than that silly "goth" label. Such brilliant musicians..so inspired.

  • this song is so beautiful its giving me tears. the mgmt cover is brilliant, too

  • FORREAL, it's actually insanely insanely good. i work for an artist management co and they keep playing it in the office. biggups to MGMT for not fucking it up

  • MGMT's version is going to kick so much ass.

  • @ThoughtsOnRightSide

i heard it and it's sooooo good

  • @ThoughtsOnRightSide it did!!! its a MGMT thing

  • MGMT

  • @gusMGMT Cant Wait To Hear MGMT's Cover!

  • sick of these fuking commercials.

  • One of the best songs ever written and one i want playing at my funeral.

  • lovely song

  • when will David Bowie singalong?

  • i used to get tattoos in the 80s when you were a criminal or a punker and they looked at us like we were freaks.we fought everyone from jocks,to police, our teachers, the preps, and we made a stand and now it seems everything is a mess every style is thrown together to make idiots.they don't have to fight like we did everything is excepted because of us .to bad i never wanted to be excepted.

  • 3 idiots

  • @666Angelfuck God fuckin damn RIGHT!!! i mean, if someone has the gall to hit that dislike button on THIS.....total grounds for spending an eternity in the lake of fire

  • @blitzshriek999 i grew up on punk bands like the sex pistols, the exploited, the subhumans, and the Bauhaus. they are what got me into punk.i seen the NYC hardcore and strait edge scene, the 90s grunge which was a great time all these awesome bands popping up everywhere i can truly say those were the best times of my life.im still the same guy i dress the same im covered in tattoos .now it seems everyone's a poser! god bless gen x.

  • @666Angelfuck YEP-i remember the red x's on the back of hands-straight edge scene-I remember stagediving b4 the jocks fucked it up-in fact, at the exploited show I was thrown so high that i fuckin soared over the crowd and landed on Watties head(cuz just went on screamin in the mic like it was nothin!).....and i remember hangin out with citizen fish(formerly subhumans)...thx 4 the reminders. those days are SORELY missed...'cause, like the tattoos, they used to MEAN something.

  • Cant wait to hear the MGMT cover!

  • @cjkloster Fuck MGMT....

  • All i ever wanted is Bauhaus...

  • OMG, I* love* jelly!

  • SO disappointed when it turned out it didn't say "born to be a creep" lol :( Those lyrics are terrible but they fit...

  • Amo esta canción!!!

  • Esta será sempre uma das minhas bandas de culto.

  • una de mis favoritas :)...lamaslinda y triste..

  • magic song

  • Brings back fond memories when I was 18 in 1982. Sadly, the world didn't get any bettter, too much hate, too much cruelty. Best leave the world on its own and watch the skies........................

  • Used to listen to this song riding around in my buddie's vintage green VW squareback. We had no money and no particular place to go. This song was our anthem. Thanks for the up!

  • Would love to hear what Kanye thinks of this song, heh. As for me, *beautifulness*. Fave Bauhaus song, one of my fave songs of all time. >>>GRATITUDE<<<

  • Great song. Thanks for posting.

  • Still applies

  • excellent song, mood creating!!!

  • I've seen "The Cream" at the top...a bunch of sour degenerate rot!

  • i cant express how this music makes me feel to bad theres only bullshit singers these days! :(

  • this song reaches every nerv in my whole fucking body

  • @SallybeautifulCorpse

Well said. I have been there myself.

Bauhaus is STILL one of the best representations of feelings that I have had the pleasure of enjoying. Very few bands are as stirring and soulful. Ok, I have to go back and listen again.

  • As i lay in bed and listen to this song over and over it reminds me of the time i was in love with the wrong person. But it was nice the feeling of love. Better have love and been noticed than as of now not being appreciated.

  • So beautiful

  • so much goth talk... at least i can hold my own on a bauhaus video. god forbid i admit my love for christian death video without being able to name the color of rozz williams shit.

yet with peter murphy i know such things. for the record he shits bats

god bless this Gothic under-tone'd post punk'ed new wave woven undefinable passion

  • Peter Murphy has waves in his voice...

  • Exelente Banda :)

  • I was lying on the floor too, suffering from the worst headache and trying to shut out the light with my eyelids. Soon the atmosphere had grown so tense, and our "silence" so intense, that my friend left the room. I didn´t need to open my eyes to picture the scene perfectly: each of us lost in our thoughts, and even more, lost to the beauty of this.

  • @InsomniumX Then, when the song ended, I got up and left the room, but not before taking a good look at the two girls I loved--all I ever wanted, was everything.

  • @InsomniumX

lol, So, all you ever wanted was to have your cake and eat it too?

  • I´ll never forget the first time I heard this song. There were four of us at my house--my friend, me, and the two girls I loved. One was lying on my couch; the other, on the floor. One was well aware of my feelings for both, the other wasn´t. One was my lover, and the other one, well, I would have never been able to tell what were to the other. She had brought her Bauhaus Live DVD, but both loved the band already, so we just left the music running at max volume.

  • @InsomniumX that is beautiful and so complex... thanks for sharing your experience..

  • opium for the soul...

  • Beautiful!

  • If only I had of been uglier.... similar context. Frign' splendid band.

  • Eloquence...sheer eloquence...

  • gracias Friends gracias Karlitos!!! BAUHAUS is inspiration music!!!!!!!!! in this song!!! Great Band!!!! Peter Murphy gOD!!!!

  • @Julio2112 :-D

  • Mmmm, señor Jules, que bien está canción me encanta; no hay duda THE SKY´S GONE OUT es un gran álbum.

    Gracias!!

  • ah, the best... is any of the rest of the bauhaus stuff like this? i only have the sky's gone out

  • this song is the epitome of what I can only describe as a synthesis of both essences of intellectuality and noistalgia...

How the simple bass mends with the guitar and the brief, somewhat abstract yet so very powerful lyrics make for an incredible balance... Peter's oh-so heartbreaking cry topping it off...

    "Oh to be the cream"

This is a song you should only listen to during the most pleasant weather in the most recumbant position you can be in.

Thank you for uploading this song

  • Thanks for posting the song.
