  • 6:29 -> Ultimative Ghetto Gangster's :D

  • I'm not going to disagree with general praise of personal initiative, but please note that the host said the norrie fleet "boomed" in the 90s when the UN provided motors. I also have to wonder if the "legitimate" train moves so slowly because it has to worry about not running over norries.

Still, a shining example of promise of libertarianism in practice! So superior to us middle-class sheeple, with our indoor plumbing and dependable electricity ... can you detect the sarcasm, disciPauls?

  • PKP IC

  • All the Communist-loving leftists in Europe and the US should move to Cambodia. They could have a wonderful time living in filth, slaving endlessly just to maintain a near-starvation level of subsistence, and riding shitty little carts up and down railroad tracks. Periodically, they could murder anyone who excels at anything. It would be a leftist's paradise.

  • @farmersfuel fuck the communists! Worldwide!

  • This is the sort of get-up-and-go that is so missing from America's under-utilized railways :-)

  • the only reason im here is because i looked up Bamboo on Wheels after i saw the t-mobile commercial

  • @misterallan1 lol! me too^^

  • Maybe Australia should adopt this system... at least these people are smiling .... and it works!

  • we want to support you by putting up with an advert, but 30 seconds is about the max otherwise we click out..

  • In the past the train was very slow as the oxen cart. From BattamBang to PhnomPenh we spent almost 18 hours long. It's a good way to use the bamboo train for their daily life. Now I'm happy to see that the bamboo train is popular for the foriegners.

In the special occasion of Cambodian traditional festival it's great to used this to visit the country side especilly in the Kathen day(បុណ្យកឋិន)។This is the way of some transportation in my beloved poor country. Thanks for your sharing this vdo.

  • I live by the railway side.In the 1980s to the early 1990s people used the bamboo stick to roll this vehicle. Most of the wheels are made from the tank wheels. These are called Norry. We didn't have enough transportation. From the rural area by the railway side, it was hard to transport any thing to the town.Mostly they used the train. But it was not safe enough for the train.Sometimes we confronted with the Khmer rough. They robbed the train and bombed the rail way.So they found the way to make this.

  • They need to bring these to the U.S.

  • so why not have vehicles like this plying the abandoned railroads of America?

  • @Rickyrab One word: tort.

  • What a wonderful idea! And, no bloody 'red-tape' saying "you can't do that because"!

If there is any arguments, they just lift the 'floor' off the wheels and where is the train, it can't have been us because we have no trains! LOL! Like it a lot. Common sense is a wonderful thing if you let it happen.

  • thumbs up if you're here because of an on-line school

  • thx alot for the cool video :D always more than happy to learn about my country :) Cambodian pride!!

  • I have done that a few years ago. It's as fun as hell.

  • booooooorn to be wi-i-ild :D

  • they'd best!

i admire their ingenuity and how they have the freedom to practice it!

they're lucky they can have norries and drive "just so", here we can't even drive a bicycle without a helmet, our government's turning us into idiots!

may they roll for a long time!

  • Bamboo Railway is very funny !

    I like it

  • This is something which I want to do while it's still in use. Looks like great fun!

  • WIsh I could make one and use it to get to town here..towns 10 miles away..its a shame theres missing track and paved over crossings :(

  • Why do people like to talk shit.

  • gotta admire their persistance

  • anyone who's playing the fine music on the soundtrack from beginning till 2:06?

  • Good job ! Thanks uploading :)

  • While this is truly boot-strap rail tourism, this is the way one has to go if you really want to experience, real tourism. The westerners whom go first class miss the real world. All they see are is fancy hotels and restaurants. Not real people and true asian people and customs. I'll travel the rougher road anyday. It is real way of the world. Travel second class, it actually more fun!

  • WOW!!!

  • It's like Britain before they invented Health & Safety - thing got done then.

  • smart.. but go to Bicol, Philippines & you will see faster and pimped skates like those u saw on the video. By the way, here in the Philippines we call them Skates.

  • That is smart

  • @malaystud22; That shit don't make sense at all! Going green? You can go green by licking on these nuts.

  • unshamed cambodian

  • When life gives you lemon's;

    You make Lemonade!

    Simply Awesome!

  • I think this is an awesome! This wud be a cool way to travel!

  • cambodia is garbage

  • @malaystud22 malaysia is a MONKEY KINGDOM!!

    malaysians are dirty stinky monkeys!

  • So does malaysia and the rest of your faggot ass countrymen. But you don't see us bitch about it fucking queer!

  • can't get anymore ghetto than this

  • where they get gas? and what tanks? where do they find tanks and tank parts?

  • amazing people,very creative...

  • we have a lot more like that here in the philippines

  • i want a norrie!!:D

  • You know these good people have very little yet they

have tenacity to create when we in the west have most things handed to us on a plate.

Its a country I would love to visit; Maybe one day. :)

  • @RRED2 you should go visit cambodia. i absolutely loved it there, the people are nice and friendly, everything is inexpensive, and it is an absolutely beautiful country. i went to phnom penh, siem riep, kampong song, and to the angkhor wat temples. just pack comfy shoes and loose thin clothes... it is very very very hot there.

  • The "proper" trains have packed up now but the bamboo ones still going strong around Battambang.

  • life there looks so simple and comfortable...

  • Foreign correspondent fucking rules, as do most Abc shows.

  • i have a question. what type of khmer do you gus think they spoke back in the khmer empire days. around the time they built angkor wat did they speak wit phnom penh accent, siem reap accent, khmer surin accent?

im just wondering what type did they speak?

  • Comment removed

  • i didnt ask waht funan and chenla is. that i already know. they are the the groups of khmer people before the khmer empire.

my question was, in the angkor time, what type of accent did the khmer people have?? they the ysound like surn khmer? or siem reap khmer? or phnom penh khmer?

    go read my question agian

  • Dude they speak khmer period, with no accent. Back in the angkor time the capital city of phnom penh wasn't even built yet. It was built after the siam invade siem reap and they have to relocate. And also siem reap accent is khmer surin accent, so they are no different. They are one in the same.

  • @brookstkid

The King helped grand mother Penh to built Wat and named after her name Wat Phnom Penh and then Chaktokok became Phnom Penh until today. King Ponhea Yat named a Khmer province Siem Reap means Khmer crushed Siam like bugs under the Khmer feet when Siam stubborn never get rid of stealing Angkor.

Khmer people in Siem Reap is not Khmer Surin, they are Khmer Pradak.

  • @brookstkid

The Khmer King Ponhea Yat moved his Capital from Angkor to Phnom Penh in 1432 but in that time Phnom Penh was called Chaktokmok means the four arms rivers. The King built his palace there and then the grand mother Penh built Wat near the King palace a year after.

  • hahahah ingenuity at its best.

  • Sweet! Forget buying an old Fairmont speeder, I'll just build one of these!

  • lol 1.51 he is shitting himself

  • What is a princess? I think you're just a drop of sperm like every body else, aren't you? We are all already know you have holes in the buttom. Why bother tell. Don't you call useless Asian.

  • lol ill so make one thats super fast easy 2 lift and no re-asembly for swiching directions

  • kool

  • Beautiful! Just goes to show that no matter how hard you try, you can't keep good people down. I really admire the 21 year old man running "Detroit". Great ambition! Now, where are all the steamers the French left behind?

  • @onetowatch111 Thats a VERY good question...

  • @onetowatch111 They're probably damaged beyond repair.

  • How fun and interesting.

Hope no one is hurt by wheel failures or derailments.

    How fast? Could not hear.

  • my khmer people, always got sumfin in mind to doso thoughtful

  • fuk u lovetruth007 ur pityu u cocksuker,keep ur comments to urself

  • Fast? 50kmph?/

  • how fun

  • The kids look very happy to ride it.

  • i never know before.

i will go to try it for sure.

  • since alot of fun riding on the bamboo railway. xD i want to try it

  • I rather travel on that than a train just throw on a coutch and a big tank of gas and oil and ill travel where the rails take me

  • Awesome video. I think it's cool how they find ingenious to reuse things like old tank parts or exploded shells and stuff.

Those things are actaully pretty fast, looks fun to ride.

    Subscribed.

  • They said something about riding mountains. I'd love to do that myself. It's like a Six Flags roller coaster from hell.

  • lol they said there not alot of raods leading to the mountaint lol close enough

  • Well imagine it! It's like a roller coaster itself except there's no chair or a safety harness! And they did say the line heads to the mountains.

  • sum time the shells didnt explode yet and litlle kids play wit dem den boom it sucks

  • i believe that in the future cars will run on rail networks because runing on rails is far more efficient than driving on conventional roads because there is far less road friction ... in this way i believe those inginius poor cambodians are already into the future ... :) !

  • But it's easier to get in jams.

  • so creative!

i love it so much, but i would never wanna ride one b/c the berailing

  • Deralinig is improbable with the norry because of its low weight compared with the usual train carriage.

  • yea i kno...if i was an adult i would donate so much money to them to make there life so much easier

  • Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!

    Did I mention awesome?

    Awesome!

  • fantastic!!! a very good video and very interesting. 5 stars for your video. thanks for sharing. Gian from Italy

  • great ride....great video

  • This is so cooll! I wanna ride on one!

  • that looks fun!

  • wow this is awesome, very innovative

  • springvale to city on this .

  • wow luckily Cambodians still have briliant civilian engineers.

  • Khmer people always find the way how to make their lives so simple no matter how many wars that tried to destroy their Khmer identity. Angelina Jolie was so amazed by Khmer people.

  • Incapable gov't that can't serve their people. Somehow pity for the ppl!

  • connex could learn something from these people

  • The Cambodian People must bee, the most inovative! Out of Practicaly nothing, There managing too build up a altrnative railroad!!!. BRAVO!!!!!

  • Wow! interesting indeed :-)

  • fabulous-I have just returned from Cambodia and travelled on this train-it was a memorable and exciting journey!-Cambodia is a wondreful country.

  • very much interesting, but looks like it's very dangerous, because of the on coming trains..

but i would still love to try this indeed :D

  • interesting!

  • Does anyone know the name of the blues song at the start and who sings it? Great music for this clip.

  • hihi very kool

    it looks nice and happy

  • Railway in Stone ages~~

    It is really cool !

  • rode it a week ago, can go pretty fast!

  • I rode this in April 06, a LOT OF FUN

  • we have that in Philippines.

  • The Norry kinda reminds me of the standard the rail service between Melbourne and Sydney has fallen to. From luxury, waiter service of the 60 & 70's Southern Aurora to today's slow XPT where they also charge an arm and a leg if you want a sleeper. One way, Melbourne to Sydney with a sleeper tonight will cost you well over $550.00!

    Advance purchase?..what's that?

  • i hate how they see Cambodia(ns) as idiotic country bumkins. When i see this other video on Cambodia back in the 60's and compare it to this video, it makes me sad how highly advanced we were back then to what our native Khmer people build and look now <=(

  • Vietnamese & Chinese & Indian & US & Pakistanis & Russian & Cambodian & Thai beware!.

The AnonymousViet, Vietdodo, Malaysian12346, Pakistanis1234, Indian12346, Creek12346, Vietnamese64321, Egyp12346, etc are a Khmer Rouge dog, a TRG gang member. You are such a low life scum AhmekKhmer ! Using people photo for your nick to stir up racial conflict? You should be depoted back to the killing field cemetery where you are from sir.

  • Ask Shah Rukh Khan to come to Cambodia and dance on this train (same as Chaiya Chaiya song)

  • DAMN cool!

  • haha when i went to cambodia to visit my family wit my mum i had to sit on the roof of a truck for like 6 hrs :P i got a tan

  • American ingenuity in Cambodia-who says only in america you can turn a profit!!

  • I love my country! The best time to go is before the harvest, when the rice field is green. My families lived in Osalov Battambang, I saw a few 'norries' when I was there. I'll definitely will hop on one next time I visit--which is Dec 27, 2008

  • Thats brilliant! Would you be able to ride on the roof of the train in England? Would you fook!

  • Not if you don't want to get pulverised on a bridge or be fried to a cinder on electrified routes.

  • What a fantastic way to get around. On time, little to no traffic, fresh air....what more can you ask for? Actually, can we get an airbag with that ;D

  • Ingenius

  • Where do you board these Norries?

  • i travelled there in jan this year.....what an awesome place to see people are beautiful and the children are so polite....a very humbling experience.....highly recommend going there i will definatley be going back

  • THIS LOOKS SO FUN!!! LOOK AT THE KIDS!!

  • very good video, thanks.

  • holy shit that shit is shaking. i would be scare on the roof.

  • @insanox Aaah, you sit on the train you must be carrefool! (1:28). Lots of people wonder what to do should you encounter a bridge. Well, there are no bridges over there, only the ones the train drives over at for instance crossing a river. Reading the comments people should be careful on what they write. What a load of crap! swearing, cursing and humiliating other people in the face of the entire world is rude. Be CARREFOOL fellows!

  • *FASCINATING*! Very interesting video! :)

    ~Cindy! :)

    ,,

  • I wanna ride a norrie. It looks fun.

  • wow this is so amazing!! they're so creative and they really uses their initiative.good job guys!! it causes less pollution too

  • omg cambodia is so fun! you can do everything you want!

  • who is the guy in this video?

  • His name is eric campbell. He is a Correspondent for an Australian program called Foreign Correspondent, which does stories on international current affairs. He is Australian

  • Looks better than Indian local trains.

  • If they built more railways, the "norries" would be one of the world's most efficient transport system.

  • This looks like so much FUN!

    PEOPLE ARE creative.

  • woah, neat

  • That's looks fun I'll try it next time I visit.

  • More reliable and better customer service than Amtrack.

  • pretty sweet

  • "what happens when u see a train coming while ur on a bridge????"

LOL, you jump! People is SEA Asia don't spend too much time thinking about negative consequences, which is one of the reasons why I love the place!

    Excellent video !

  • Sarcasm Alert:

Yeah why think about negative consequences?

A hurricane might cause the death of 22,000 people, but let's not think about negative stuff.

Oh wait, that's what just happened!

  • Good point; we'd better not cause a hurricane right?

If you don't have any control over something, why worry about it instead of doing something else?

  • That what i wonder too??

  • you shit in your pant and quickly jump in the water, LOL

  • Man! And people rip up on Amtrak! These passenger cars are in very rough shape. Understandable with a depressed economy. Looks like the public is able to make do with what they have.

  • I love the brakes.

  • I love the brakes.

  • what happens when u see a train coming while ur on a bridge????
