  • kiitos for let me know more about Finland and its culture!!! <3 it!

    greetings from Mexico!!!!

  • Thank you for sharing in English. I certainly don't mind some Finnish words as well, such as "Karjala pirogue". It helps me to learn a little of another language. Please include a Finnish word or two in all your videos. Thanks again for sharing a great experience.

  • @bvbjb It's spelled Karjalan piirakka :) witch in english is Karelian pasty, if you google it you can find some recipes if you are interested, they are pretty good if you make em right :)

  • ...Meanwhile, In Soviet Russia.

  • You have a cool name

  • MAKES ME HUNGRY!

  • oh, i miss finland and my family. :(

  • that a Trangia ?

  • @bigsammieking No it is a off brand cook set, the burner looks a lot like a Trangia burner thou.

    Cheers!

    Mika

  • That looks like some good eats there.

    Enjoyed the video.

    Thanks

  • Great video. Next week I'm coming to Finland for a one week trip, so I think I try to cook like this :D

  • Question, what size pot/pan are you using in this video?

  • @tatetalk The big pot is between 800 to 1000 ml which equals 30 to 34 Fl.oz

    Cheers!

    Mika

  • @MVsBushCraft Thank you very much

  • Great video! I think food always tastes better when cooked outside...

  • @coffeeexmachina Thanks for watching! I can not more than agree that food cooked outdoors tastes nice and even more so if done on a wooden fire.

    Cheers!

    Mika

  • Very nice! Great looking meal; your "dining room" there has awesome views, but looks a bit chilly to me. I'm sure a nice hot meal was quite welcome!

By the way, I really like your glove/seat suggestion...very simple, very practical.

    All the best.

  • @C24B9 Thanks! Check out the mixed vacation clips, it contains a clip of my cold red hands :)

    Take care!

    Mika

  • nom nom. I love these wideo. x

  • Thank you, I appreciate your videos.

  • i love this videos..congratulations..u made a lot of peopol happy...

  • My mom makes a something very similar to this. Its a thick stew of pork, potatoes, and carrots! Its cool to see it being made in Finland 7,646 km away!

  • Oh man am I hungry now!

  • its actually called karelian pie and for the meat, we could say smoked lard or pancetta:)

  • Thanks for the recipe, I will try it. Also, I think the word you are looking for is 'pastry', it is a word we use for the cake you show.

  • Thin Ryebread Sourbread root water Rye powder salt

Sourbread root can be made from: Ryepowder and water and let it stay 48h in a closed bowl, not tightly closed. Then abit more ryepowder and water and let it stay 24h.

And when making the dough you have to let it stay 24h as well, so it takes time :D

  • I would love to learn how to make simple bread, do you have a recipe? You say it is only flour and water?

  • @johnmonk66 I know that the boy scouts in Sweden makes something called stick bread.. You make a simple dough with flour, water and a pinch of salt, make a thin strip of dough and role it on a stick and the roast it over a fire or hot coals.. This is very fun to do with kids in the woods :)

    Kind regards, Mika

  • @MVsBushCraft ;-)

  • @MVsBushCraft I like your beard. Do you ever get Finnish food stuck in it?! What a treat! xx

  • @johnmonk66 For rye sourdough bread recipe I have to get back to you, when I get back home after my vacation..

    Take care!

    Mika

I also got my hands very cold in the process XD.

Check the Vacation Mixed Video Clips..

    Cheers!

    Mika

  • cant beat belly pork and taters for a good meal!

  • Hey man, that looked pretty delicious! Also, the bit about lanyards for your gloves is a great piece of advice. I use lanyards but they are much shorter and only so my gloves don't blow away in the wind. I never thought to use my gloves as a cushion!

  • @Squirrelsaresneaky Thank´s man!

    It was really tasty.

I cross my gloves behind me when working barehanded so the gloves where all ready there. I think it works pretty well, go´s good with the saying "use what you have at hand" :)

    Regards, Mika

I will be making some Gear/ Kit videos soon..

    Take care!

    Mika..

  • Very good videos 7/5, thanks for sharing !!

    M.v.h Mika.
