The Japs had no airforce or navy, were starving and trying to find a way to surrender. The US didn't mention letting them keep their emperor, they wanted unconditional which stalled the talks. The bomb as a last resort could of been dropped at sea to show capabilities, which is what a lot of the engineers thought would be done. The second bomb was to test the plutonium bomb, done before Japan had had fully realized what that had happened wasn't a conventional fire-storm. US were showing Russia.

The bombs were necessary... If we hadnt taken action the Japenese would have never surrendered. The war would have gone on for another 10 years. Not necessarily. While theoretically the US government "could just go and do it" in practice there are checks and balances in place to prevent that type of thing. These checks have to be as powerful as the bombs themselves. Our politicians come up with "nutcase" ideas on a daily basis. It is very important to make sure none of them are ever implemented. Who and what control various assets, and what they are used for is a delicate balancing act.

When the Japs captured our soldiers they tortured them by slave labor ,starvation , and when our soldiers were sick they would let them die , and bayonet or shoot the weak ,the red cross sent care packages (medicin) for our soldiers in captivity but the Japs would not give it to them!! Not to mention Pearl Harbor They got what they deserved so Fuck em!!!

Pearl harbour is no excuse for using atomic weapons, it is no different dropping
nuclear weapons on afghanistan today after 911, that is also a war.
I believe the USA was itching to test these weapons on real targets, even today

@Pinin500 The reason they were used was to deal with the Japanese as fast as possible so that they could save western Europe from being in total control of the Germans. Any other country would have done the same if they had enough time to develop as the Americans did; there hasn't been any of these weapons used to this day on any group of people, opinion and fact are not interchangeable. @Darksiayan By the time they dropped the A-bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Germany had already lost the war. Germans capitulated in May 1945, and the bombs were dropped in August.
The reason why the Americans did it was the possible loss of hundreds of thousands of soldiers during the invasion on Honshu, the Japanese mainland. They killed innocent people, but who didn't? I agree, they could have dropped it on some uninhabited area, just to show what is it able to do.

@94XJ I've read the Japs seen the plane coming, but in those days large bomber formations over Japan was a pretty common sight. People said they seen a single plane and didn't think anything of it. I've never heard anyone on the ground say they seen the bomb falling, of course many on the ground were killed. The Japs originally thought a large quantity of gasoline was ignited that caused this. In the following months, Japs with gieger counters figured it out.

i just got down reading a book about this, and if you guys did some research, you would know that the war was turning agaisnt the japs and the russians were about to declare war on japan. a little bit longer and the war wouldve ended. theres no way the japs couldve competed against the US and Russia,

The bombs were necessary... If we hadnt taken action the Japenese would have never surrendered. The war would have gone on for another 10 years. Millions of dollars would have to have been spent for the invansion. Every Japenese would have either fought to the death or killed themselves with the lies the Emperor was telling its people. Millions of more American and Japenese lives would have been lost. No one wanted to drop those bombs but it was necessary.

In Okinawa, 100,000 Japanese died in battle, 40,000 Okinawa civilians either died in battle or killed themselves because the Japanese told the Okinawans that we rape and kill them(Mostly the latter), and 15,000 Americans were killed. If the Japanese went that far to protect a 2 mile long island, Imagen how far they would have gone to protect there HOME island. An entire nation would have rather died than surrender.

Not necessarily. While theoretically the US government "could just go and do it" in practice there are checks and balances in place to prevent that type of thing. These checks have to be as powerful as the bombs themselves. Our politicians come up with "nutcase" ideas on a daily basis. It is very important to make sure none of them are ever implemented. Who and what control various assets, and what they are used for is a delicate balancing act.

we interfered with a China-Japan war, and cut off Japan's trade and helped China. They were running out of supplies, so, in a response, bombed Pearl Harbor. That's when the US 'officially' joined the war, though one can argue we joined many years before.
