Ol' boy's still got it, hasn't he! As celebrated as he is,I still contend Glen Campbell is among the greatly **underrated** talents of the past half century of music. One of the most emotive voices I've heard & one of the most gifted guitarists going. Saw him recently on the Ellen Show and Leno - whichever I saw first (don't remember), I came away sad. He didn't sound so great. When I saw him a day or two later on the other program he sounded terrific. And here as well!Lord, bless Glen Campbell!!
I wrote this for a man who died from this disease.. Ode to Alzheimer's .. It has long sinuous branches it reaches out and back recalling us to places we know. and the memories like leaves on tress fall away into decay. we struggle to regain them but they slip through our grasp like sand in a desert one breeze and they are gone. Till we meet again at childhoods door. Bereft of today, Stuck in yesterday with no road before us except heaven's sweet embrace.
When does being human with all of it's weaknesses mean one is not, cannot be a Christian. Yes, Glen has fought his weaknesses. He done his best, and I am sure that he will be judge by Christ, not by the 'so-called' Christians running around on earth. I've always believe that if a person has to tell someone that they are Christian, then maybe they are lacking something. Live so that your life, your actions state that you are a Christian. Which includes the act of repentance.
grew up listening to him and always thought he was amazing, still do.. whatever happened in his personal life, is just that, HIS personal life, nobody is perfect.
I've always liked Glen Campbell....I met him in 1986 in arkansas just passing through at the time...Stop to check on an old friend and guess who walks in the studio during a recording session...Glen Campbell...We talked for over an hour and he certainly left a great impression that I still remember.
It does not get any better than this. I remember 6 years back or so when he was arrested for a DUI and all the non believers said ...another phony Christian. God forgives and and Glen found his way back. God bless you Mr. Campbell and all you care about. Much love Kansas.
@jmallen1962 Not so much non-believers as disbelievers, I'd say. I'm a non-believer, but I understand the concept of holding oneself to a certain standard and sometimes failing without being a hypocrite. Disbelievers don't really understand what the word "hypocrite" means.

I met Glen once at his home in Billstown, AR. He is just as nice and sincere as he appears. He spent a hour with me. One of my favorite memories. God bless Glen and his family and I am grateful he will leave so much beautiful music forever.
And though I hope to live at least another 40 years and then some, this song will go on my funeral list. Will make the people happy too (only 2 minutes :-) )
But the main thing is this song made me think of dad.
(I was touched by the song already but when he got to the 'past gets in the way' bit I really needed a hanky!)
This song really opened my floodgates, my dad has dementia. It has been a blessing and a curse, in the early stages dad opened up on his childhood and youth which were pretty bad. Dad and I never really got along, he was very distant. Now I know why. The curse is of course that they slowly drift away. When this song came on at the BBC it really opened my floodgates. (glad I was alone :-) )
Just come back from his concert - he is astoundingly talented - his voice live is so pure and beautiful. His struggle with alzheimers was obvious but I count myself as so privileged to have seen him. I cried like a baby.

Beautiful song and so touching. I love it! Made me cry knowing his circumstances. When I was a little girl I had the biggest crush on Glen. I would carry his album around me all the time. I thought he was cute and he was! My cousin use to tease me about it, embarrassing me. lol Lots of fond memories when I was a kid of that and of my dad singing and playing Glen's songs. I can't imagine not having memories. So sad. Glen is a legend. I'm 46 now and still love Glen.
This onely little song talks about his life and about this disease he has I just love it.Can't put into words how much I love this song. Iwill always remember Glen campbell by this song.

Seldom am I ever at a loss for words, but this time I find myself unsure of what to say. I'm wiping away tears as I watch this video, and know they are tears shed for a man that has shared his amazing talents with us for so many years, and for a man who now has chosen to share with the public his journey to a very certain future. An amazing song from an event more amazing artist. Sad, very moving, yet gloriously brilliant in its resolve. Saying thank you, doesn't seem to say enough.

As a longtime fan of Glen's I am soo proud of this album and song. A deejay acquaintance of mine summed this song as "Life in 1:57" and it is so true. I also
believe that Glen is telling us, his fans, through this song that he's OK with the blows life has dealt him, that he's at peace and that when he goes to that "Better place" that his guitar playing will be even better and the heavenly choir will have another gorgeous voice ! I anticipate seeing and hearing him there!!
As I listened to this song for the first time it put tears in my eyes..it reminded me of my grandmother who had this WICKED disease....I've seen a few people go through the process and it's soooo hard on family, friends and loved ones who rally around the person....GOD BLESS and good luck Glen!!
I'm 43 years old & I'm so lucky to have been blessed listening to this gentleman play & sing? He sure is a man of many many talents & I pray to god that he may have many years left before he plays to the angels! Respect to you Glen you're the man ?
I bought Glen's "FINAL STUDIO ALBUM" this very morning, Friday 16th Sept. 2001, on the recommendation of Alex Lester on BBC Radio 2, where "Ghost On The Canvas" has been "Album of the Week".
I enjoyed the album on the first play through, but was immediately knocked out by the first track "A Better Place" & came onto YouTube to checkout this fine video.
I wish Glen all the best at the ripe old age of 75 & hope that I can make it to one of the venues on his upcoming UK Tour.
Glen, I have loved you my whole life, sitting in the floor in my parents living room watching the Goodtime Hour....a whole lifetime of music and memories, I will always take with me. Your talent has never ceased to amaze me and I have been priviledged to see you in concert 3 times, and I am hoping that I will get to see you on this tour, one more time, to say THANK YOU! God Bless You Glen and your whole family, I know that they are so very proud of you, as we your fans, are!
I have never commented on a youtube video.. until this one. It is such a beautiful song, a touching performance, from a superb artist who has transcended his affliction to gave us a small gift that is bigger than all that we face in our lives. Thank you ever so much Glen. God bless and keep you Glen, and may you sing forever more.
This song just puts into perspective how fragile life is. Its time to stop the BS and hate and just realize we are here for a short period of time. Never a truer word spoken, our young daughter shared each day with us through many years then without warning she was gone. She took our hearts with her never wait untill tomorrow to tell your lved ones how much thay mean to you.You may never get that chance.Sleep gently our wee one..Mum Dad
I went to 3 record stores for this cd and they were all sold out and each had at least 10 more copies on back order. That made me feel good that not everyone is brainwashed by Hollywood's mindless pop scene (too many to list here).I did buy best buy's last copy and boy this album is classic Glen alright. His 2008 cd (meet Glen Campbell) is great also but Ghost on the Canvas is way better.Buy it now you won' t regret it. THANKS Mr. Campbell for all your music and memories Best wishes to you!!
Sad to hear he is unwell. This is presumably the last recording he will make ....one of the greats ..heard him in Dublin in the early 1990s.... he could sing so well AND was a fine guitar player also. We will remember him.
This album is BRILLIANT. Brings tears to my eyes. Every song is from the heart of the legend of Glen Campbell. Just buy it. It deserves every Grammy award it has coming.
God bless you Glen; thank for a lifetime of the music you will be revered for.
Robertg71: I couldn't have said it any better! I'm going to steal your comment and post on my Facebook page, simply because you took the words right out of my mouth!
This song is just EPIC. No matter who you are, where you come from, your background, socio-economic status, etc....disease knows no boundary. This song just puts into perspective how fragile life is. Its time to stop the BS and hate and just realize we are here for a short period of time. Such a short, sweet track....speaks doses of the reality that we do not control our own destiny...this can happen to anyone.
Congratulations to your mother for 86 years of life and longevity. I hope that many others come to value the wisdom, companionship and love of their elders and understand the blessing of having them in our lives.
Your music has been part of the soundtrack of my life since I was a boy, Mr. Campbell. This new album comes just as my own Grandfather (who is also a big fan) has begun his fight with Alzheimer's. While I am not able to be near him geographically, I just keep watching this video over and over and you help me to feel closer to him, at least in spirit. Thank you so much! I'm pulling for you & my Grandfather, Mr. Campbell!
What can you say about Glen Cambell that hasn't been said. This is truly one of the greatest artist of our time. My husband ordered 'Ghost On The Canvas' for me, can't wait to hear Glen's new music. Love this song and video. I'm hoping Glen Campbell will tour the northeast (northern New Jersey).
I've heard the new album full through and it's just about as good as this song all the way through. He's in fine voice. And if you check the Surfdog Records website, there is a listing of his tour itinerary up through December.
Such a beautiful song and so exquisitly performed...Mr Campbell Sir you are a jewel in this world and boy am I looking forward to getting my hands on your forth coming album Ghost On The Canvas cos its going to be fantastic. Thank you for being you and I feel so privileged to have actually met you in person. So looking forward to seeing you again in Cardiff on October 23 2011. God bless you and your family
Fantastic - A song that was played when I saw Glen on tour in Leicester, England last year. I was hoping it was going to be released. This final album is going to be great.
Thank you for opening your heart and giving us your feelings Mr. Campbell. I have always enjoyed your musical ability and singing. May God Bless you abundantly.
Mr. Campbell, you have been an inspiration to my family and I for many years. I never missed your TV show, and even worked all summer at my mom's 7-11 to afford an Ovation guitar, my first, when seeing you play. I had the pleasure of seeing you years ago in Philadelphia, and always considered it my favorite live concert. I play and write songs thanks to your inspiration. We send you all of our prayers and blessings, and hope your your tour includes Dallas, where we live now. God Bless you.
Glen, your music has been such a big part of my life since I was a kid growing in in the 70 and it has shaped the way I write my songs today! You have always managed to capture the song writer's vision of the songs and your voice has always had so much feeling! Thanks you for all of the years that you have entertained us all! God Bless and my prayers are with you!
Thank you Glen for so many great songs and the memories that come with each one when I hear them. I grew up here in Phoenix and still live in Glendale so I had the great opportunity to feel connected to you locally. I am so saddened to hear on the news tonight about this terrible disease that has risen from the bowels of hell and inflicted itself upon you and your family. You are and will always be a wonderful talented man. God bless you and your family. Stay strong and happy!
Hello Mr. Campbell. You are such a tremendous artist. I very much enjoyed "A Better Place." Thank you. You and your family are in my prayers, and keep on seeking and trust in God. For He is your rock, your fortress, and now your comfort. God bless you.
I have enjoyed your music for years. I was heartbroken to hear that you have Alzheimer’s and I know that it is so hard for you and your family. I am saying a prayer for you guys to stay strong and know god is with you. I want to say thank you for your farewell tour for the fans…. I know it will be hard for you but it is a great gift that you give us. Prayers.
Just beautiful Glen...You have given us so much joy over the years.I was singing your songs in my town square last week and everyone sang along. This is another wonderful song you have given us! It bought a tear.
Thankyou for all you have givin us Mr Glen Campbell.you will live forever in our memories!!!

This is one of the best songs I have heard in a long time. And, how can something so simple be so hard to play? I'll figure this out yet!

As I listened to this song for the first time it put tears in my eyes..it reminded me of my grandmother who had this WICKED disease....I've seen a few people go through the process and it's soooo hard on family, friends and loved ones who rally around the person....GOD BLESS and good luck Glen!!

Gorgeous, beautiful, true, powerful, and deeply moving.
That's the story of this song and of the beauty Glen has graced us with as a reflection of his love for life and the giver of life.
A better place is exactly what Jesus promised / promises to all who believe in him as Glen well knows.
I look forward to meeting them both there someday, truly a better place.
Thank you so much, Glen, for your music and your life.
A fan since the 60's...

@Carmens1630,
I've heard the new album full through and it's just about as good as this song all the way through. He's in fine voice. And if you check the Surfdog Records website, there is a listing of his tour itinerary up through December.
