That train depo looks quite similar to the one in Rhyolite (except the one in Rhyolite is in pretty bad shape). Any chance that they have the same floor plan?
Way cool! Golly, my old "stomping grounds" as it were. My cave is far to the west of Kelso Depo about 23 miles, but I can still see Kelso Dunes from there.
hey, really nice video here. i hope to have chances to travel in the near future & this is a good way to see what's out there. great work! - fuzzy soul tiger, Mr. PJ
Hi! I didn't see the Mojave, but I readed about. Last January I readed the book "As Valkírias" (Paulo Coelho); this book tells beauty things about the Mojave... Kisses!
That guy was Michael Glore who was commenting on how they used the depot. He actually gave us a lot more information but we had to edit it down so the show wouldn't go over 5 min. So he does know more than it looks in the video :). But so do the other workers at the depot so if you find yourself there then you'll enjoy talking to them about it. Thanks for the page comment too!
Dang, you have like got to let me tag along on as you make one of these 5 minute episodes if you do anything rail relaited, ha ha. Like I said I live by Carson City, Nevada but I do get down to southern California every so often because my dad lives down there near Lancaster/Palmdale. I would so dig if you did a cab ride on the Surfliner and let me tag along, LOL!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome vids. I always look foeward to seeing your vids.
Towards the end they talk about the sand dunes. Years ago in the early 1990's I experienced a similar thing when I went to Death Valley. You could climb the sand doons, slide down them and they made this amazing like moneing sound; almost sounded like a jet or something.
I'll bet you put that depot part into this vid just for me, LOL!!! At around 1:15 when the guy is talking about the depot serving only Union Pacific employees he is probably talking about that it was just a crew change point for freight trains and most likely not served by passenger trains.
Good vid. I drive from Carson City, Nevada to southern California (near Mojave, Lancaster, Palmdale, etc) every so often because my dad lives in southern California.
I've thought about going to Mojave during my vacation to Las Vegas this summer, but I don't know if my Focus rental car would make it on those roads.
