MERCI !!! Isaac Stern est prodigieux. La direction d'Ormandy, fabuleuse. Et les musiciens du Philadesphia Orchestra de grands artistes. Quant à Mendelssohn, c'est l'une de ses plus brillantes et émouvantes pages.
Certified Intergalactic! Isaac Stern has the best Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. I don't know where he got his notes from 6:53 to 8:30 (cadenza). Unequaled!
@Dogaradodia This will always be my absolute favorite Mendelssohn, though I've long noticed many details of clarity (much is sound engineering,) phrasing and orchestral balance, etc. in other performances that are noticeably "better." Firstly though, I came across references to the work in several sources, then had a chance to attend a performance with Stern and the Detroit Symphony in 1974; moreover, my piano teacher got me a pass to the dress REHEARSAL. I was utterly stunned...
@UlfenDaddy My dad took me to the concert, and I was utterly silent on the ride home, forcing myself to engrain the Concerto in my memory. Somehow my dad (who was not musical, and detested concert-attendance,) realized just how important THIS work was to me. I played early Service for an Episcopalian church (close enough to walk, nobody was driving me to work at 8:00 on Sundays,) and when I got home from Church, THIS RECORD was waiting upon my breakfast plate.
OMG the second movement is superb... it has to be one of THE best recordings ever My Grandfather used to know and play the violin with Isaac makes me want to cry to hear this his fav piece and played like it is here...awesome !! THANK YOU.
very memorable. he played for so many years. hearing the earlier recordings is great because when we are younger, our pool of strength, drive, and power are most plentiful; we are firing on all 6 or 8 cylinders, so-to-speak.
to beautifullllll omg
