I think that would better if the model of the compressor was set to FF1 when using sidechain, because usually FF2 introduces "pops" and "clicks" which may not be desirable.
All you need to do is create an audio track and name it "bus" or something. Send every track but the drums to that track and put your compressor on it. Side chain from your kick, done. If you use drum racks for your drums, you will be able to select individual drums from it to trigger your sidechain. Use returns for effects. Put a reverb or delay on a return track. Then you can send audio from that track using the a, b, and c knobs. That way you can use one reverb for all of your tracks.
@hansvedt routing to audio tracks works, but has no real advantage over what I demonstrated. I prefer to use return tracks as it's easier to dial in multiple destinations for your tracks. also you can get precise with exactly how much you want to send to each return, rather than just an on/off switch using "audio to track x". for example, maybe you want multiple amounts of compression, and have one track routed to be compressed while also sidechained to drive another compressor.
Thank you for this Tutorial. Thumbs up.
