To make a house you need at least one 'comfort item' (chair, toilet, throne, etc), one 'flat surface item' (bed, table, work bench, etc), enough light (furniture can block light from one torch from reaching the corner) a fully enclosed space at least 5x7 or I think 8x4 (wooden platforms count, even to separate one house from another) a door and back walls (dungeon walls count).
