  • Aha! We finally have a movie in which Harpo has dialogue!! : )

  • Divine, isn`t it?....

  • hihi wie geil hab 3 brüste

  • I make skits that are chock-full of puns and one-liners, please take a look and let me know what you think! I'm a huge fan of The Marx Brothers and want to reach out to an audience who likes that sense of humor

  • Wow he was in his mid to late 30s here. I'm going to say... 37ish

  • @takineko - Harpo lived the saying, "Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional."

  • Wow, this is wonderful! What an amazing find - thank you so much

  • Can anyone tell me what's the music for that vid? please?

  • HARPO FOR LIFE!

  • Too funny. In the sound films, he never talks. In the silent film, he does. Now THAT is funny.

  • One day Harpo stopped by New York’s Astroia Sudios to visit a friend who was working on this movie. One of the other actors didn’t show up, so Harpo was recruited on the spot to play the part. There is supposed to be another scene earlier in the film where the guy who is tied up is picking on Harpo.

The shot of him taking a drink of water is pure Harpo.

  • @Amelea1993 You have just put an image into my head which will take weeks to get rid of. Thanks alot!

    lol

  • LOL I always thought people would think it was wierd that I had an enormous crush on Harpo. But looking at the cooments, I see that I'm not the only one. Cool! Love this clip

  • brilliant! I haven't seen this before thanks so much <3 I love harpo!

  • WTF? Harpo Marx in a silent movie?

  • The only time Harpo ever "talked" on film...

  • It seems to me like Harpo always wore a curly wig.

  • I'd let Harpo chase me anytime lol

  • @gothiclolita15 And I would let him catch me, lol. But in a friendship kind of way, he was VARY happly married to his beloved Susan

  • @missgibbdreamer lol women called Susan are lucky! I like a comedian from my country (DAniel Rabinovich) and his wife is called susan. I like harpo too

  • You got to hand it to The Marx Brothers, they were around at the great transition of silent films into "talkies" (sound films) and took advantage of it so well

  • Wow!

  • Wow, that's so cool, I didn't know he was in this!

  • Where can I get a copy of this movie? My great great uncle was in it.

  • I'm in love with Harpo since I was a kid and saw him first time lol Is good to know I'm not the only one who thinks he was a handsome man!!!!!!

    <3

  • thanks for the post

  • Harpo was a lil hottie! I had thought this was lost for good, what a gem.

  • Wow Harpo was really Handsome when he was young and when he was old but he was never as handsome as Desi Arnaz i mean that guy was Serious Yowzer! and Desi Waz handsome both young and old. R.I.P Both of them.

  • wow this is really rare.

  • Viva Harpo haciendo de vasco!!! Con el traje regional tipical spanish y todo!! jajajaja

  • I love this! Harpo is so cute. Thanks for posting.

  • Yes, I said I had posted this on the wrong video. Thank you.

  • I never thought I would see this.

  • I remember seeing a documentary on the Marx brothers containing this clip -- I believe the rest of the film is lost. Harpo's only "speaking" role in a film was in this silent movie. i think they used this gag in Night at the Opera or a variation of it

  • is there more to this?

  • how did you find this? and can you buy it anywhere????

  • Thanks for posting this. Rare to see, & I actually thought they had all the copies destroyed.

  • This is from "The Cocoanuts", their first sound movie.

  • Sorry-- I posted this on the wrong video.

  • Harpo's adorable, isn't he? Posing the guy to hit him. He's definitely my favorite Marx brother. Ever seen him on Lucy? He does the mirror thing with her b/c she's dressed like him. It's hilarious.

  • Fantastic I did not know this survived

  • God, I love this man!

Thank you infinately for putting this up! I had given up hope of ever seeing this in my life.

What a beautiful person! Wonderful, adorable Harpo!

  • The way Harpo "posed" the guy before crackng him upside the head was very Charlie Chaplinesque.

  • This may be the closest Harpo ever came to talking in a movie. I understand that he used to perform with a Scottish accent while on stage.

  • It was an Irish accent, actually. According to his autobiography, Harpo's character started out as an Irish immigrant called Patsy Brannigan (hence the red wig).

  • How wonderful - I had never seen this before! Thanks so much for posting this!!!

  • sweet I hope they find the whole thing one day.

  • Does anyone know if any prints of the entire movie exist? If so, hopefully it may find its way to DVD one day.

  • Wow this is great thank you so much for posting, how do you find these! I've been trying to come across the episode of I've Got a Secret, where Chico dresses as Harpo, for ages and I've had NO luck!

  • A brilliant extraction of 55 seconds of comedy brilliance... thanks A. L. (How do you find these gems?)

  • Although my Groucho Marx home movie was like tripping over a gold nugget, this Harpo gem was much more tediously acquired! Most cordially, A.L.

  • Great! "Are you sure you can't move?"
