I can't wait till' I go to Louisiana somedya again so I can listen to Doreen!!! And also whileI am so fixed on the clarinet playing don't leave out that tuba going off!
WOW! What an AWESOME set! God has surely blessed them with wonderful musical talent! Thank you God for this wonderful blessing I received just listening to them play!
amazing! Mrs. Doreen is amazing and that fellow on the horn was also great! and you gotta' love the guitar player hammering out chords on that clasical guitar
These people are true kinds of musicians, they don't sell themselves out for money, they play just to play... When you see a smile on a musician's face you can tell he/she are true musicians
Also, Doreen is the first person that I have ever EVER seen flutter tongue on a clarinet... I've been working on it and you honestly made feel that it's possible..
@Tech502 flutter tonguing on clarinet is really not that difficult. If you create enough air and don't play with a closed throat it will come quickly. Strauss used flutter tonguing way back when (first example of flutter tongue in classical music). Pretty much every orchestral player can flutter. Hopefully you've gone on to master this technique :)
Thanx 4 tha video. Ya know...I'm miles away from N.O. but after hearing that sound, it just reminds me were I'm from, and the good that rises from the chaos around. She's great...504 BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!:D HAHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
gopman64, you are the pompous idiot, in French au is pronounced o and for the benefit of Americans or others who don't know that is the Anglaised phonetic version or Eubonics. I am a New Orleans native so I am familiar with the local speech and script.
Of course we can hear this style of music in Europe - you just need to do a bit of research to find out where trad jazz is being performed in your area.
I saw Doreen a couple of times at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. I love her! I have not seen her since the mid 90's. Are you still performing at the NOJHF??? Still love the CD I bought from you there!
Doreen is alive and well and still playing. Caught her on Royal Street at the French Quarter Festival last weekend. Pete Fountain played in Jackson Square, and I'd say Doreen gave him a run for his money. A great talent!
There is just NO musical experience like a Doreen solo. I don't know where she pulls it out from but she just literally puts me in tears again and again.
THANK YOU for this post, Bilko. Doreen is absolutely *the* best clarinetist I ever heard in my life, period. I lived there until Katrina and I know what it means to miss Doreen's talent.
This is WONDERFUL! I saw Doreen in both '98 and '99, bought a CD from her, and had seen a picture of her when N.O. hosted the Super Bowl. But I honestly didn't know if she was OK after Katrina. She is amazing!!! God bless you Doreen!!
I stand corrected St. Ann and Decatur Streets. Beignets are a square shaped fritter eaten with or without powdered sugar and cafe o'lait is coffee with cream or milk, eat-in or take-out.
Thanks for capturing an inspiring performance at the Cafe du Monde where patrons eat their beignets and drink Cafe o'lait. Once a slave auction local at St. Peter and Decatur Sts., background bldg. is the Lower Pontabla Apts. oldest apt. house bldgs. in U.S.A. circa 1750 the other half is on the opposite side of Jackson Square one owned by the city and the other by the state.
Thankyou Bilko, she really is good, even with a sore finger, who is doing the tambourine, you?? Tuba is as well great, A guy named Tubafats was planning to come to NZ, but was medicly hindered . we had Robert Harris ju.Trombone, coming instead . He played with us.cheers
Wow. and I mean wow. I want to play like that.
