I think I actually like this transformation better than the violent explosion of magical energy rays. Just zoom in to a similar feature, overexpose it, pull back, and viola, new Doctor. Pretty dang cool.
I can see that you like Classic Doctor Who. I do too! And I made a trailer for this episode (the tenth planet). If you want, here is the link to it! Thanks so much for watching... even if you hate it! :)
The 10th Doctor believed he would die and not regenerate due to the limits on regeneration (that have changed throughout the years, certainly) it was also mentioned in "The Doctor's Daughter that he felt the reason she would not regenerate when she died was because she was a clone of himself, and he was on his 10th and final regeneration.
They retconned that, in Sarah Jane Adventures the 11th Doctor tells Sarah that he is immortal, so he can regenerate as many times as needed. Actually I remember William Hartnell's Doctor saying something similar? It wasn't until later in the series that the whole 12 regenerations thing came about
@Browncoat1984 That wouldn't make sense. In the original series, you met the Master as one point as almost a walking skeleton - he was in his last life. He was given a new set of regenerations by the Time Lords to help fight in the Time War. Not saying your wrong, just saying that if they decide to stick with that then they are making a huge continuity error -.-
@darthwingnut Only in the movie there is a limit for the regeneration and that limit is 12. Not 10.
In older seasons (classics) it was mention to the master was granted by the high council one more cycle of regenerations and there are so much more...
Anyway, if you havent seen the classics and if you dont want, try searching through the net...
Its actually very good as a scenario even if you read it...
All Gallifreyan's regenerated. For most of them it was a peaceful regeneration at the end of a lifespan. The Doctor's were all haphazard, due to some personal crisis and/or injury. The exception was Troughton to Pertwee, which was a penal regeneration.
You make me sad, sir knight. Still, it's better than nothing. It was the thought of missing the regeneration itself that made me so sad, so this is pretty tops :)
Heh... even back then they hid it all very well.... Nicely done... Wish I could find all those old dr. who shows and watch through it all... Seems it's time to call back up the guys and gals and figure out a whole marathon day if we can get the older episodes :D
@LostandFoundTravel The episode itself was destroyed but this clip was shown on an episode of Blue Peter and the Blue Peter producer made sure that ALL Blue Peter episodes were kept.
@superjoel01 there is nothing wrong with that line! are you telling me that they all died and just thought oh well. He was the first doctor that actually described it and felt he had more to do before his death and regeneration
@OmegaSnowWolf they do "die" in a sense, but in the same sense that Anakin Skywalker "died" when he became Darth Vader. And, of course, it is a change in personality and perspective, so they retain a base knowledge of their own past, but they also understand that their present existence is transitory. Do all Galifrayans regenerate, is my question, as they were all Timelords? I'd have to think they do.
@HairyDalek I can't think fo a tv show that has a more ingenious way of replacing the lead character when the the actor in the role currently decides to move on. Birlliant!
@eventingcrazy Its the best TV show in the world, you can tell any story you like, go anywhere in time or space you like and change the lead actor at will. Its absolute bloody genius. Here's to another 50 years of telling stories about a mad man with a box.
You is pretendin' to be ol' Worzel... 'oo is for bein' Doctor 'oo next. So I'll be bumswizzled if you is goin' to be be getting fifty eight of them there greeny thumbammy thingammies... not when ol' Worzel is guardin' Hundred Acre an' a'waitin' 'is turn, so he is. 'Tis The Crowman - I's better be goin'. Ta ra then!
Those were the days when the regeiration was better.

@darthwingnut There are actually 13 regeneration cycles possible....so yeah, that wasn't going to be his last. He just didn't want to change.
angelix 8 months ago
@angelix No, there is 12 regenerations possible. So, add that to the original life, he has 13 possible lives.
OmegaSnowWolf 8 months ago
@OmegaSnowWolf Yeah, after I posted, I noticed that I mixed up regenerations with lives. But you get the gist of what I'm saying. ^_--

@darkdylaner also, that means if they remember this, we'll see "Sarah" before Matt Smith becomes the 12th doctor haha.

A big gamble by the BBC here - changing the lead actor in what had become a very popular TV series.
It worked, and has continued to do so every time.
