Fedor is in decline? He's barely 33. Most HW and LHW reach prime in their early thirties. Brock Lesnar is 32 and CARWIN IS 35! He's just not as good as the new type of heavyweights. He's a brawler with heavy hands and a savvy technician on the ground and it's clear that his experience doesn't count for too much. What more, he's too small to pose a threat to technical giants, so I don't know what your talking about.

I don't know man--when I saw him fight Arlovski, he didn't look the same to me. then w/ Rogers he also looked "not himself." By decline I mean he simply isn't the same fedor---why, I don't know--he suddenly looks older (ring/cage-speak wise) yet he is only 33. Actually that isn't so far fetched bc realistically, 35 is a good cut-off point. From there on it gets harder bc of decline. Maybe he isn't aging well? Or maybe his heart isn't in it anymore? he just doesn't seem the same to me since AA.
It's not that he's declining. He's a brawler and brawlers do best in the ring. An octagon is where Wrestlers and graplers control fights because theirs no interference from the ref if your crammed against the side of the cage, like you would back in Pride. He hasn't added the necessary weight, nor has he stepped up his technique which went flying out the window in less than 1:09. It's not like he's old. He's barely 33.
I see some of your points, e.g. that he's more of a ring fighter than a cage fighter. But he's no brawler--he's way more well rounded than that. The weight part I also disagree with, as weight isn't a determinate factor in such things, at least not at Fedor's weight level. I totally agree about the technique factor. I didn't see the cage being that much of a factor in his fight w/ Werdum--it was more of a technical error & a rookie one at that.
It was plain careless. Perhaps "decline" may be too strong a word, but he certainly isn't the same since the AA fight. He's looked different from then till now. Something has changed & not bc of this one loss--I've seen it since his fight w/ AA--he's just not the same. Subs in a ring are much easier than in an octagon, where a good wrestler will take the grappler against the cage, pin their head between the gap and start raining blows. Its why he couldn't submit Rogers. Look at Shinya Aoki. He subs everyone in japan but when he fought G Melendez in the Oct, he was completely out of his comfort zone. Compare Fedor's TKO and Sub record to real strikers like Shogun or Crocop. A lot of fighters did not have experience on the ground then.

Brock is very wide and was pitted against a heavier and stronger Mir and Mir couldn't get out of the ground and pound.
Dos Santos carries his hands better than Fedor, who just traded shots with Rogers before a KO. Santos hasn't taken much damage from his recent fights.

Fedor = #1 P4P greatest of all time, fought more top 10s than anyone, 10 year winning streak, the most varied opponents from various venues including UFC fighters, the list goes on. Bottom line: Until someone accomplishes what he has, then surpasses it. To a UFC nuthigger MMA noob 1 loss = fighter is no longer the best. To a seasoned MMA enthusiast, we know better. This loss will only show how great he really is. Watch the rematch!

He fought and won in a ring, not an octagon. Read the rules, its very different from the ring! No one can go that long in the octagon because of the sheer challenge of what the cage brings. I had thought a seasoned MMA enthusiast might have known the differences.

No one? MORON plenty of ring fighters have successfully transitioned to the cage. The diff: The ring makes it more of a FIGHT bc u can't press ppl against a cage all day. There are way better fighters than UFC all over the world in all sorts of venues. UFC has hype and good marketing--attempt @ monopoly. You of course believe the marketing HYPE. Reem for example would mop up the floor w/ the shit UFC HW division, as would a prime Fedor. I agree w/ you on one thing: I could see Carwin giving Fedor trouble, even defeating him esp since Fedor has been in decline since the Arlovski fight. The rest of your list is a joke. The only other I would even consider is Cain.

Fedor is in decline? He's barely 33. Most HW and LHW reach prime in their early thirties. Brock Lesnar is 32 and CARWIN IS 35! He's just not as good as the new type of heavyweights. He's a brawler with heavy hands and a savvy technician on the ground and it's clear that his experience doesn't count for too much. What more, he's too small to pose a threat to technical giants, so I don't know what your talking about.
Alistair would be the only formidable opponent in the UFC.

I don't know man--when I saw him fight Arlovski, he didn't look the same to me. then w/ Rogers he also looked "not himself." By decline I mean he simply isn't the same fedor---why, I don't know--he suddenly looks older (ring/cage-speak wise) yet he is only 33. Actually that isn't so far fetched bc realistically, 35 is a good cut-off point. From there on it gets harder bc of decline. Maybe he isn't aging well? Or maybe his heart isn't in it anymore? he just doesn't seem the same to me since AA.

It's not that he's declining. He's a brawler and brawlers do best in the ring. An octagon is where Wrestlers and graplers control fights because theirs no interference from the ref if your crammed against the side of the cage, like you would back in Pride. He hasn't added the necessary weight, nor has he stepped up his technique which went flying out the window in less than 1:09. It's not like he's old. He's barely 33.

I see some of your points, e.g. that he's more of a ring fighter than a cage fighter. But he's no brawler--he's way more well rounded than that. The weight part I also disagree with, as weight isn't a determinate factor in such things, at least not at Fedor's weight level. I totally agree about the technique factor. I didn't see the cage being that much of a factor in his fight w/ Werdum--it was more of a technical error & a rookie one at that.

It was plain careless. Perhaps "decline" may be too strong a word, but he certainly isn't the same since the AA fight. He's looked different from then till now. Something has changed & not bc of this one loss--I've seen it since his fight w/ AA--he's just not the same. Remember that 35 is getting old in the cage/ring--it gets tricky from there, harder to be what a fighter once was.

Maybe he is aging poorly for the fight game? maybe his heart is not in it? Maybe the "emperor/MMA god/invincible" monikers got to him & beacme too much of a burden & too much pressure? We'll see. I hope he comes back better than ever.

We'll see in his next match, be it against Werdum or Overeem (an undeserved title shot just to keep him in Strikefoce under the champion cluase), the later being more likely, according to Scott Cokers idea of a hw champion belt. Running around these smaller half hacked shows isn't my idea of pfp greatness.

I don't go by "shows" I go by fighters & thier MMA abilities. Reem could probably mop up the floor w/ the UFC HW division as it stands now. So if Fedor fights Reem & wins, it would indeed be a HW championship belt. If he loses, he loses to a top level fighter, no shame in that. If he beats Werdum in a rematch, he continues an as of yet unsurpassed legacy in MMA. If he loses again, it will be the 2nd true loss of his career & he'll still have a record unmatched in MMA.

No that's MMA math. I never said that YOU did. Nice try attempting to put words in my mouth but no dice. I am basing my claim on Reems skills as of late, his growing maturity as a fighter & as a person, & his growing skill set. he is only getting better. I believe based on what I see in him right now that he can beat Brock, & most UFC HW w/ little trouble. It's not the "show" it's the fighter. I watch UFC but I also watch a LOT of other venues bc I know that UFC does not = MMA.

OMG, he beat Paul Buentello, who recently got kicked out of the UFC for going 2-0.

You're cherry picking. Fedor fought more top 10 fighters than just about anyone I can think of. Add to that his unprecedented record, class act personality, & you have the GOAT. You think UFC has the best in all Weight Classes bc they tell you so. Watch other MMA venues & you'll see what I mean. There are MANY of them w/ fighters that would slam UFC. They just don't have the same marketing power. I invite you to check it out & see for yourself. Otherwise, keep believing the UFC marketing hype.

Subs in a ring are much easier than in an octagon, where a good wrestler will take the grappler against the cage, pin their head between the gap and start raining blows. Its why he couldn't submit Rogers. Look at Shinya Aoki. He subs everyone in japan but when he fought G Melendez in the Oct, he was completely out of his comfort zone. Compare Fedor's TKO and Sub record to real strikers like Shogun or Crocop. A lot of fighters did not have experience on the ground then.

You're only as good as your last few fights from a business and prospect perspective in terms of CURRENT ranking. That is why right now, Fedor is no longer #1. But then there is a fighters all around status. Fedor is still the GOAT even though he isn't #1 in rankings right now.
