RedOrca, I'm with you guys on Harmony and what it means. Gary explains it well and people that are confused about Harmony should also consider that O'Sensei was a warrior.
As an Aikidoka myself I want to give my humble respect to you and your videos. They are by far the best instructional videos on YouTube and since your style is a bit different then the Aikikai i've practiced for years I find them very enlightening and insightful.
I like this video but there is one detail i just have to express my opinion about.
I don't know about the laws in the US but in Sweden if you punch or kick someone who is laying on the ground then that is considered a felony although self-defense is legal i think the atemi-part is not a good idea if you wanna survive court. Especially since the atemi is done after you get the control.
Its just my humble opinion expressed with great respect.
You are more than welcome to voice your opinions! Especially with the respectful attitude that you have. I don't claim to know everything...nor can I possibly address every situation. These videos had a 2 minute time requirement so I used things I thought were unique to how I do aikido. I would only disable an attacker if I felt in imminent danger of further attack, ie: multiple attackers, weapons, or if they posed a physical threat to me. My point was that pinning from there is tough.
One more thing while I'm thinking about it...I would hope that EVERYONE watching would use common sense with this stuff. If it is illegal in your area to do a shoulder lock on someone, then you have to make your choice in the moment. For me, I will do what it takes to survive and go home safely. That's my view on harmony. You must figure your own view on what harmony is. Good luck and train hard!
I rather go to jail then go to the morgue if i would have to decide. I forgot to thank you for showing the atemi part since it is good to know all the alternatives in a bad situation.

Amazing. I actually found someone else who isn't immature when it comes to what Harmony means in Aikido.
9/10 people that post Aikido vids or comment on Aikido vids say its a gentle form, you aren't supposed to hurt them. Which annoys me to no end.
Keep up the good work.
This makes me want to go back into training. lol
