  • Really, we should pay for your college costs because you posted an intro that somebody else created and put some half-assed subtitles on it? Thumbs down to you.

  • i was tripping through youtube and stumbles upon the gayatri mantra...really resonated with me and i thought hmmm this is familiar...i dont normally watch tv but god knows i love me some BSG :)

  • Translation: 0:07

    Oh Creator of the universe!

We meditate upon thy supreme splendor.

May thy radiant power illuminate our intellects,

Destroy our sins, and guide us in the right direction!

  • I like this theme, but I only found out recently that they used some other music in North America for the first season. I guess they thought we couldn't take the "weird" lyrics.

  • very different from the caprica opening

  • i want to watch the entire series right now without stopping.

  • Ah! Spoiler music! Baltair had sex again! 8 has sex again! Statbuck hits tigh again? Roslyn is a dumbass?

  • The song made as much sense before the subtitles after it did after =/

  • does anyone else hear the lyrics say "lllllaaaaaaaurrrra roooooosllllllon" for the first lyrics or am i just going crazy

  • yall niggas is sick lol silly as hell some to gorreeeedddy nooo lmao hahahahahaha

  • Not a day goes by I don't think about this show, I miss it so much. Thank goodness for blu ray box sets.

  • I don't recall anyone helping me pay for my college education. I would be embarrassed to even ask on a public forum. But then I am a much older person and a college graduate also. Different generation. My generation mostly worked for what they received, and didn't fool themselves that just showing up at work was any work at all. Most of us suited up, showed up, and this is the really important part.....actually did some work for our employer. That is part of the equation seems to be missing .

  • OMG!.. MUST.. RESIST.. CAN'T WATCH IT RIGHT NOW... AGAIN..

I get shivers from this song, it's so damn emotional when you have seen the series...

  • That's the Gayatri Mantra, simply perfect for the plot of the show.

  • HUP!

  • my friend and i are watching this series together and we could of sworn they were sing laura roslins name in the opening video so its nice to have some light shed on what other translations there could possibly be

  • thats brilliant the song is from the vedas gaytri mantra!

  • what kind of music is this? im not being sarcastic or rude i seriously want to kno what type of music this is

  • @8VampireLover8 the best kind; its battlestar galactica music.

  • To the BSG haters get the Frak out! Y watch the vid. B4 BSG I thought nothing could touch Star Trek in terms of how profound the saga is. I now think that title belongs to BSG. It was everything Olmos said it was in the extras on the dvd it is deep, profound, and has social relevance in ANY context. It was no soap opera, I would say imagine humanity all but wiped out..... Then show me a calm cool and collected people, I think not.... The drama was there for a reason.

  • I like BSG but yeah hearing some of the same sub-plots over and over again got annoying.

Sharron should have been killed off at the end of the first season. I got annoyed everytime she was on screen. Jesus if everyone is gonna try and screw her/it at least dont make her a horse face.

  • uhm guys, search for "state of mind - deeper" and don't try to tell me that the voice is not the same! :/

  • so hypnotic... @.@

  • @msmindspeak i always thought it was "shawty on the radio"....no joke

  • I still can't believe firefly lasted 9 episodes and this rebooted dreck lasted 4 seasons.

  • @DJEvilWayz Cause it was better, therefor you should believe it. lol no offense.

  • The show is in Hell now...where it belongs. : ) Good music, though--but it doesn't fit very well with Melrose Place in Space, sadly.

Best space show of it's years? Certainly. Which isn't hard when there are no other space shows on at the time. : )

  • @Eldeecue Still the show was pretty darn good

  • @Ivansama94

I honestly don't think so....it was just the only sci fi of any production value at the time. The characters were poorly developed, the direction was pretentious and distracting, and Baltar, Zarek and Saul(and ONLY when he was drunk) were the only characters who seemed at all human. Every episode paraded itself like the second coming of Christ, and after a while the pomp just got laughable. Adama makes himself a cup of coffee and a grand serenade plays for the coffee beans.

  • @Eldeecue lol haha sayign the characters were not developed XD

  • @Ivansama94

Honestly, listen to the BSG intro theme, here, and replace the visuals with that of the old Power Rangers intro sometime. You get a hilarious and poignant effect--BSG took itself way way way way too seriously, and habitually wrote checks its ass couldn't cash. It literally _is_ Days of Our Lives in Space. You just watch it to see how bad the characters can screw up their lives _this_ episode, and thus, feel better about your own life by the end.

  • I was hoping I could watch the episode at the end there.. I love this show

  • NO say we all.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought 0:14 was "somebody cut my radiooo..."

  • @msmindspeak LMAO!!! That's because this woman DOES NOT pronounce this mantra properly at all. She completely distorts it!

  • this Anthem blows my mind

  • I MISS THIS SHOW!! :(

  • Where is Richard Hatch?

  • @Wellch He plays Tom Zarek but his name is not in the opening sequence, as he is only in 22 episodes in the entire series.

  • Best main theme ever.

  • I miss this show!

  • Which song is this?

  • Samskrta (or Sanskrit, correctly) is not used in any vernacular any more. It is practically extinct except from old literature and mythology.

  • Really because i thought it was this: OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH......

OOBOO BALAASOOO GOOO VALLAASOOO SOMETTOOGOREEDDYYY NOOO!!!

LONG AGO THEY ASKED DAA OH MYY. NO YOUR EYE, BROTHEROOH DAAAYOOO!!!!!

  • @danielontech LOLOLOL ME TOO

  • @danielontech hahaha you have me in tears laughing from this

  • @danielontech LMAO!!!

  • @danielontech

Funny. It is the Gayatri Mantra, though.

  • @danielontech ... Or maybe it is:

    OM BHUR BHUVA SVAHA

    TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM

    BHARGO DEVASYA DHIMAHI

    DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT

  • @Slikar789 The Song of The Universe.

  • @danielontech That's the English version they wrote on this video, noob. :P lol

  • Comment removed

  • @danielontech Its sandskrit. I don't think this videos translation is necessarily accurate.

  • @danielontech i do hope your declaration isn't polemic... because it wouldn't be worth

  • May we attain that excellent glory of Savitar the god:

So may he stimulate our prayers

  • Edward James Olmos was one of the candidate to be the captain of the Enterprise in TNG beside Patrick Stewart. Since edward is mexican, maybe he'll be cast as Captain Ricardo or something like it.

  • Eikinkloster - There is no problem in knowing what Sanskrit sounded like for two very good reasons. First, Sanskrit is a phonetic language - it does not have an alphabet the way languages like English do - every character has a sound, and if the sounds are pronounced differently then the word takes on a different meaning.

Second, the oral tradition in India means that Sanskrit has continued to be passed on sound-perfect for millennia. Students had to learn to chant texts perfectly.

  • OM Bhur Bhuvah Svaha

    Tat Savitur Varenyam

    Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi

    Dhio Io Nah Prachodayat

  • Six Cylons hated on this beautiful prayer.

  • So say we all!

  • This song is so good, I just wish there were a longer version. I used to close my eyes or look away during the final part where it shows scenes of the upcoming episode, lol. So cool that the "lyrics" are the main part of a mantra.

  • Gayatri Mantra:

    Oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ

    tat savitur vareṇyaṃ

    bhargo devasya dhīmahi

    dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt

  • makes me want to watch all of season 4 again.

  • OH I LOVED THIS EPISODE

  • I think i prefer the song without the subtitles. Just me able to make up the words as it goes is more fun than being told what they mean IMO.

  • Whats the language? Good Frakkin show! :)

  • @hopkins88 It's a Hindi prayer song done in operatic form. :)

  • @hopkins88 Sanskrit

  • the song is awesome

  • We don`t have sci-fi channel in HD in Poland:/

  • I have a question:

I'm trying to follow this word-for-word. However, I'm a bit unclear as to exactly what words are being said from about 0:12-0:16. I can follow along everywhere else, but that part is a bit lost to me. Could someone tell me exactly which word(s) is/are being sung at that time? Thank you so much!

Beautiful song; I love hearing it :-).

  • @LibraLovesLLawliet Aum = it is symbolic of Brahma Bhoor = it stands for the essential spiritual energy (pran) Bhuwah = destroyer of sufferings Swaha = it represents happiness Tat = it refers to the Paramatman or the divine spirit Savitur = bright shining sun. It represents the creator of world Varenyam = best Bhargo = destroyer of sins Devasya = it refers to the supreme God Dheemahi = absorb the knowledge Dhiyo = intelligence Yo = who Naha = our Prachodayat = enlightenment
  • @LibraLovesLLawliet

    Its an ancient hindu prayer.

  • The music is so moving.

  • Om Bhur Bhuvah Svaha

    Tat Savitur Varenyam

    Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi

    Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodaya

  • excellent show, 10/10

  • It is called the Gayatri Mantra

  • in german the translation from: SO SAY WE ALL! means That we all hope...

it's not really the same :P

  • @StuartTheGamerNerd

I'm not quite sure where you are going with that statement, but this show went way beyond religion. If anything, it shows how destructive it can be. Christianity, nor any other religion, is the live all and be all of humanity, or any other life force. If anything, this BSG taught us that. What difference does the composer's belief make? How shallow is that consideration? This is why the Cylons came about.

  • Comment removed

  • @StuartTheGamerNerd This is a Hindu chant and therefore nothing whatsoever to do with Islam.

  • @StuartTheGamerNerd

Yes because those teens might convert to a religion which they have every right to do and have every right to make an informed choice as to their faith. Hoe very dare those media elitists!

  • @StuartTheGamerNerd Really? Come on, please don't be so narrow minded. Also learn to spell and how to construct a sentence. "one of America's greatest Instrumental Music artist's of America, his Muslim eh???" Dude what were you smoking when you came up with that? It's people like you that are the problem, not the people that chose a different religion to you.

  • @SpartanMk1 its called short spelling duh

  • it is the original sound or its a remix of an Indian song ?

what's the name of THIS song ?

  • o__0 Just watched my first episode today...I say the words to this song before I sleep everynight....I was taught by my parents lol, was really weird hearing it lol.

  • Oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ

    Tat savitur vareṇyaṃ

    Bhargo devasya dhīmahi

    dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt

  • Makes me realise how it was out there in iraq.

  • Gayatri Mantra is the name of this song.

Hindu mantra of liberation and knowledge

  • Gayatri Mantra is the name of this song.

Hindu mantra of liberation and knowledge

  • "Om Earth, Air, Heaven

May we attain that excellent glory of Savitar the god:

So may he stimulate our prayers."

  • what? so this subtitles here are completely bullshitting?

  • It's just another interpretation, like this one for example, from the Arya Samaj:

"O God ! Giver of life, Remover of all pain and sorrows, Bestower of happiness, the Creator of the Universe, Thou art most luminous, adorable and destroyer of sins. We meditate upon thee. May thou inspire, enlighten and guide our intellect in the right direction."

And i think, this one is the closest to the spirit of BSG.

  • talk about free interpretation... how "Earth Air and Heaven" becomes "giver of life, remover of all pain and sorrows" and etc?

What is the actual meaning of the words?

  • oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ

    tát savitúr váreniyaṃ

    bhárgo devásya dhīmahi

    dhíyo yó naḥ pracodáyāt

  • So say we all

  • ccccombo breaker

  • SO SAY WE ALL.....

  • so say we all!!

  • So say we all

  • SO SAY WE ALL! Love that show...

does anyone know where I can get the song at the beginning?

  • it's called the gayatri mantra. It is a indian vedic chant. You can get it anywhere, just search gayatri mantra - there are 100's of versions

  • I know( I am Indian); it's just that this is an operatic version, not the normal way it's sung, and I really like it but can't find it anywhere.

  • @OrangeR0se they make Sanskrit sound so cool, can you tell what kind of accent is that?

  • It's a very american accent. I don't think it's the accent that makes it sound cool, just the words and the way it's sung--I think it would have sounded better if they had used an Indian accent (but that may just be my bias)

  • @OrangeR0se is there a "higher" sanskrit accent?

Most languages seem to have, a folkish accent that usually is both very nasal, strangled, fast and high pitched, and a high accent that goes sort of the opposite way, clear, low pitched. Something like Hillbilly, Redneck, Southern American English VS Queen's English.

This rendition of Sanskrit sounded quite "high" to me, but of course, I have my own linguistic biases.

  • it's the operatic tune (normally this is sung like a chant) not the pitch

  • @Eikinkloster Sanskrit is equivalent to Latin...there is no folk version of the language. Today the language is only used in religious context. I don't believe I have ever heard this accent of Sanskrit anywhere else. Hope that helps (=

  • @earthwind12 "Sanskrit is equivalent to Latin...there is no folk version of the language."

If that were true, that's the first thing Sanskrit would be unlike Latin :-). Just google Classic Latin and Vulgar Latin :-)

The problem with languages from before tape recorders is that we're never really sure of how they used to sound. Take modern Hebrew, for instance: It has a German/French accent, because the people who ressurected it spoke those languages.

  • @Eikinkloster Actually One of the oldest preserved pieces of Samskrta literature were tracts on grammar and phonetics. While saying Samskrta never changed, nor evolved from anything is more part of a doctrine, current Samskrta users do use a language that is extremely close to that of their ancestors; amazingly even considering the amount of time that has passed.

  • @Fnorder23 "current Samskrta users do use a language that is extremely close to that of their ancestors"

We can't possibly know that. We can't gauge how close the current Samskrta is from the original because we simply don't know how the original sounded like. It could sound more like this version we're listening in this video than in Indian renditions. There is no way to record that kind of sound in writing. For instance: how do we know a "a" is as in "rather" or as in "about"?

  • @Eikinkloster the "a" in "about" is actually a voiced glottal stop, while "rather" in RP would constitute a long vowel, a distinction clearly made in both the Devanagari scrpit and the language itself. Also, much detail has been provided by early phonetical texts. You can't record sounds, you can however describe the exact positions of your vocal apparatus. As said "extremely close" doesn't mean "identical" - vowels are tricky, but consonants are probably dead-on.

  • @Eikinkloster As for Hebrew, while the original pronounciation was thought to be lost, Jewish tribes living in Yemenhave helped to reconstruct Hebrew phonetics with much accuracy. Of course the average Hebrew user will retain the accent of his forefathers (and the Yemeni boast about being the only ones speaking correctly) it helped a lot with ceremonial Hebrew use.

  • @OrangeR0se I'm not positive but it sounds pretty similar to Deva Premal's version if you want to check it out.

  • Amazon has some 99 cent download versions... but sample them first. Some are very poor reproductions. search bear mccreary

  • Being a hindu i've heard many versions of this in my life time....but honestly this version is the best. I just wish it was longer. Good point too....the lyrics do match up with the show

  • thank you for the translation - lovely and deep at the same time, just as the series was. I hope THE PLAN is not the last installment - the story arcs are endless.

  • what the name this track ???

    This video is so cool

  • It seems like an daily OM some people hjave sent me that in e-mails

  • what was the language the song was beign sung in?

  • Vedic sanskrit.

  • Hinduist practicings are going to be angry when read this, but this Galactica version of Gayatri Mantra is far superior than any other on youtube, the "original" versions which are so slow, repetitive and boring!

This one is so powerful, and something i like a lot, brief. ^_^

  • SO SAY WE ALL!

  • wow...interesting that part of the gayatri mantra is used in the opening song. beautiful....and subtitles to go along with it.

  • man theres a game being made, called Flash Trek - When Universes COllide.

And its like, Galactica,Stargate,Star Wars,Star Trek

    ALL FIGHTING EACH OTHER

  • This song gives me goosebumps every damn time, espicaly when I see Galactica leading the way through the green ion cloud, it's simply captivating, there is just no other word!

  • YEAH! I'm not alone!!

  • dos enyone know the name of this song i cant find it.

  • it's the hindu sanskrit "gayatri mantra" with a battlestar galactica twist.

  • wow, i can't believe this. this is indeed sanskrit! i just saw the first 2 seasons of it within 4 days cause it was just so cool. and then i see they are singing sanskrit. it is not easy to recognize though. but now i love it even more, since i study indology :)

  • I read the Upanishads when I was in undergrad school. They introduced me to peace and helped me in a very dark time. Thank you VERY VERY much for the translation. OM, Salome.

  • Om bhur bhuvah swaha

tat savitur varae nium bhargo deva

    siya dee mahii

    Dhii yo yona pracho dayat

  • Clearly the superior intro.

  • Is superior.

  • Superior to what? (Just asking - not picking a fight or anything...)

  • The Americans had a different intro for the first season I think

  • Ah, right. Thanks.

  • yeah thats a cool theme too but i just love the beginning of this damn intro.

  • yeah, i wish that went for longer, the drums are a nice finish

yeah, im going to have to buy the ost *is addicted to the song*

  • Would have thought it was Greek or Arabic !

  • Hinduism is far older then either, especially Arabic.

  • Where in the hell can i get this song? I keep looking but all i keep finding is the old one from the 70's

  • What language is that anyway ?

  • sanskrit , it is a hindu prayer

  • sanskrit

  • that is from the final season when boomer steals afina's child
