  • can i use hydraulic cement?

  • Hey is there a way to make refractory cement/clay from your house? If not please give me some information on where I purchase materials for it. Because where I live they don't sell this type of cement.

  • @aznmeowmeow That is the problem. Fortunately you can purchase it from the internet. If you try a portland regular cement it will blow up at that heat. Molecular bonded water and all that. Never use reg cement, plaster or gypsum as a flue material. It will splatter or explode. There are formulas on the internet but they are inferior and always involve a lot of Grog. (busted up firebrick and fireclay) So just go permanent and buy the reg stuff.

  • @aznmeowmeow If you are looking for refractory, try looking at places that build boilers and also I found mine at a place that builds pizza ovens... Also something else that have been discovered recently is that perlite is bad in refractory mixes because at around bronze temps it starts to melt and then it fluxes the refractory effectively lowering the melting point of your furnace lining. however perlite have been replaced with foam beads, it burns out leaving air pockets that insulates...

  • @HeimoVN Well I was actually thinking about making a oil waste burner, using free fuel. Also if I'm lucky enough I might have a Masonry next door and buy some fire brick from them. But I'm getting really frustrated because NO ONE makes a good tut on forges. Espically on the materials they describe.

  • YES,very clever, makes my home foundry look like SHhhh thtzITT

    PS,haha first comment.
