  • This song has the best guitar battle ever!!

  • Amazing..

  • What an amazing band...Punk is not a musical style but more of an ethos. Television were definitely a punk band....Ive never heard this song before but it fits right in with what they were doing in the 70's....and I agree, Marquee Moon is splendid cover to cover. The guitar work is brilliant..Im still trying to figure out what they were doing on most of it...and my favorite line from the whole record - "...I fell into the arms...of Venus de Milo."...Fucking brilliant!!

  • VERLAIN IS LIKE A QUEER DOPE DEALER ON THIS ,,,,REMINDS ME OF BOROUGHS ,,,NAKED FUCKIN LUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!EXCELLENT

  • Ya but the TONEof da Fenders!

  • One of the finest examples of how to make a perfect video with virtually no budget.

  • HOMOSEXUAL

  • Superior guitar work

  • HIPPIES MOTHERFUCKERS!!! IS NOT PUNK

  • alwesome album!! awesome band!

  • tabs ?!?!

  • but what is the "call and response" with the little "crowd" that band as a chorus acts out? what is that a metaphor for? like a crowd in a dream?

  • Tabs anyone?

  • Jesus of the Moon!

-I just found out about "Television"!!

    The guitar is orgasmic!!!

    I'LL STOP YELLING NOW!

  • Stewart Lee should use this as intro music for one of his shows!

  • some kid said ''too overrated''.. that qualify as spam.. isn't it?... i hope so ._.

  • EXCELLENT GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Q som legal!

  • This band is so not worthy of the cult following it has. Ridiculously overrated.

  • @wsxyaq112 Television is underrated

  • @MrLepa91 No, most mainstream bands are overrated

  • @wsxyaq112

    So who is properly rated?

  • Nice guitar and Lou Ree imitation. And Richard sounds like Lloyd Cole (no relations ha) before Lloyd was Lloyd with Robert Quine on guitar.

  • Richard Lloyd is KILLING the leads on this song!! DAaaaaamn!

  • 10 People... Why? Are They Hate Rock Music?

  • This is probably the best band of New York ever. Intellectual music with punk references and brilliant playing (those guitars man... they rule!)

  • I love this song and this band! Awesome! The guitars (Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd) are unique and wonderful.

  • Television inspired my guitar playing since the very beginning in 1977. Too bad very few people know them. Best guitar players ever! It's very hard to follow what Tom is playing...he doesn't play on blues scales and his chord progression is very jazzy and classical at the same time.

  • First time hearing this, really cool!

  • The singer looks and sing like Peter Murphy. So looks like I'm watching a video of bauhaus

  • @cnoeroman I particularly enjoy Bauhaus.

  • never heard this group. great i wish i had heard it back in the day. i was listening to the seventh wave youtube list. peace

  • Best guitar band.

  • GO RITCHIE!

  • Richard Lloyd just nails it on this song. His flamenco-ish runs really make this song work. When Television hit the stage at CBGB's in the 70's I don't think that anyone knew how influential this band would be. A boat load of current bands owe at least a partial debt to the ground breaking work that they did. Check out Interpol and Franz F. and you will see what I mean.

  • Great song, great delivery, great guitar work/sound, good video...This song could have been big hit with the right push...Girl looks like she shot up a real good bag!

  • Call the cops!

  • I ain't waiting ah ah .... hesitating. Tom Miller is the proto nova cyber guiter guru.

Here I still stand underneath the spell of the Marquee moon. SRPMITCHTUBE.

  • I ain't waiting ah ah .... hesitating. Tom Miller is the proto nova cyber guiter guru.

  • Pure sex !!!

  • Long time since i heard this song. Nice, thanks.

  • The smirk at 3:10 is very theatrical- and highly amusing!

  • Sounds like people still don't get Marque Moon. It's one of the unabashed masterpieces of rock and roll. Every song a masterpiece. Incredible musicianship, two of the best guitarists in the world IN THE SAME BAND. Maybe it's one of those cultural moments when you say, "Really, you don't like Marque Moon ? Maybe we shouldn't have lunch" ;) Adam and the Fucking Ants ?? Yes, we definitely shouldn't have lunch.......

  • @heyrubes007 Well, compared to a lot of punk rock in the era, "Marquee Moon" sounds like it can get away with being played on Top 40 radio. And don't knock "Dirk Wears White Sox" - it's still a nice punk rock record...just not one of the greatest.

  • @heyrubes007 You're so right! If only people started listening to this great album. Where else can anyone find such spiralling guitars, surreal lyrics and tight rhythm section?

  • Comment removed

  • @heyrubes007 : I like Adam Ant, and I was planning on treating you to lunch! :o

  • Tey just were too much ahead of teir time; that's why some of us thinks tey're underrestimated ( not so sure how to writ this fancy word)

  • I used to see so poorly...but now I've seen the glory...

Into them for over 30 years and they still hit me like a spike in my mainline...

  • good

  • I should have run away from home and squatted in a lower Manhattan tenement during the 80s.

  • For me this is far superior to anything on the vastly overrated "Marque Moon" LP. I mean, it's an okay record and we all know the two guitarists can certainly play but it doesn't even come close to Adam and the Ants "Dirk wears white socks". Btw Lloyd Cole has without a doubt ripped off Verlaine's irritating vocal style!

  • @MisAnnThorpe Adam and the Ants certainly wore a lot more makeup than Television did. I'll give you that, but calling "Marquee Moon" vastly overrated, well...pay less attention to lyrics and more attention to the way the guitars weave together.

  • @mnwalke I can assure you that I've given the lyrics minimal attention. I've tried to get into "Marque moon" but it just isn't the incredible record that the music critics always made it out to be. Three years later, Talking Heads released "Remain in light". Now that's a GREAT record!

  • @MisAnnThorpe I will check it out...thanks for the rec!

  • @MisAnnThorpe Here Here :)

  • Tone to bone ! Great guitar work.

  • :) Nice song, i uploaded Careful. I hope you like it :)

  • Good Music!

  • Fundamental!!!

  • Damn Godly lead guitar

  • I hate Television

  • and in the very end a short extract from Sonic Youth's 100%

  • great guitar.

  • What album is this off of?

  • Television is the eponymous third album by American art punk band Television. The album was released in 1992, fourteen years after the band's second studio album and subsequent break up in 1978. A video for "Call Mr. Lee" was filmed and aired on MTV to limited play.

  • I just read about them in "Babylon's Burning - from Punk to Grunge" by Clinton Heyling.....really good book about the NY scene the London scene and what came after...till Cobains death. Some rock historians believe that the punk ride began with the seminal Stooges, MC5, New York Dolls, Television, Ramones, Blondie and continued in London with the Pistols, Clash, etc..coming back in to Seattle where it assumed different forms and died with Cobain.

Not shure how to place the New Wave...

  • Hi! I 'm looking for a song listening 25 years ago from this band! like that: "sometimes i forget taht we supposed to be in love, sometimes i forget my position". If u have news... Thanks!

  • @Ilusnemac I think the song you're after is Parade by Magazine, not Television

  • The only punk band with talent.

  • I disagree To many examples of talented punk bands to list

  • This song is really great! I've never heard of these guys before, but I'm enjoying this. Not a big fan of the guys voice, but this style is about so much more than that.

  • Wonderful band, wonderful video!

  • Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for this.

I have no words to describe the talent... what a phrasing, totally suberb.

  • We are big fans of Television and the new wave scene. If you could have a listen to our stuff (click our name and it will take you to our videos) and let us know what you think it would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • @TheRanTanWaltz Checked you guys out very talanted Band

  • eyes at 146 are cool

  • this is kinda cool................

  • BIRTHDAYのチバが大好きなバンド。カッコイイ

  • I loved their comeback record. Bought it when it came out and still listen to it.

  • yeah, I hope thei're going to do more, thei're just too good.

  • Tom Verlaine has one of the most gorgeous necks in Rock and Roll.

    - Patti Smith.

I recommend reading "From the Velvets to the Voidoids," just for anyone that... likes music.

  • Um hmm, I've been meaning to get that book...Television are sublime, I must say :)

  • I Will make note of that

I like music a great deal in fact

  • I will make note of that. I like music a great deal.

Might I in turn reccomend "Please Kill Me" by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain. Quite possibly the best book written on the subject of 1970's era punk rock in existance. Not a great source for the london stuff or anything post 1979, but essential for everything that came before. If you aren't already familliar with it of course...

  • I got this book as a Christmas present this year, and I've been reading it for the last month and a half or so. I'm almost finished and yes, it's is a great book really informative as far as the punk rock scene goes in New York.

  • I'm reading "Please Kill Me" right now. That's the only reason I heard of Television and why I just looked for an example of their music. I like it.

  • I will def get that book. I think Television and that era are captivating.

  • Haha man I love how I can recommend reading a book and people actually make an attempt to.

I was more expecting "lol who reads fag"

Thanks guys, I've got a little more faith in the world.

  • This should be Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee' s theme song when we clinch the 2009 World Series.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha GOOD ONE

  • For amps in the old days, live at least, it seemed to be Ampeg VT-22s and Fender Super Reverbs. For shows since this reunion they seemed to use Vox AC-30s. Lloyd has stuff like old Supros, and Verlaine used a Mesa Boogie combo in some stuff you can find here over the years. The tone is more in their fingers and imaginations than gear, though...

  • Richard Lloyd--great and underrated

  • I remember this lp as a righteous comeback

    great song

  • Actually, he just goes nuts from 3:06 all the way to the end. I love Richard Lloyd's playing. Not a bad songwriter, too.

  • This is awesome.

I don't doubt they trememdously influenced punk; but I see a more direct link to the Punk sound from bands like "the Sonics" (Listen, for example to 'he's waiting' ).

  • fuck! i want that guitar tone!

  • Verlaine uses a Jazzmaster or Jaguar with really heavy strings, which has something to do with it - Lloyd almost always uses a Strat. In the late 70s they used Deluxe Reverbs exclusively but this is an early 90s recording.

My favourite bit is Lloyd's bit of insane guitar-strangling from 3:06-3:22 or so.

  • Dis Da Shit Mon....!!!!

  • Fucking GOLDY GUITAR TONE!!! AHHHHHH!

  • CHRIST SAKE! I posted that a month ago, never noticed the "GOLDY" guitar tone until now. GODLY, sir.

  • agree - the guitar teasing is amazing! :D

  • Heard and saw this once at the time it was released. Loved it and thank you for posting!

    The guitars.... great!!!

  • I love this song...Very nice!

    /,,/,

  • Just exquisite contrast and playing of guitars

    smooth...classy...so cool!

There are few/none groups like these nowadays.

  • 2:17 - Verlaine's and Lloyd's left hands in the same frame -- making a mighty music machine

  • Such A Magic Music,Bravo!!

  • Yeah I think thats their best moment

    J. Jewell a very close second

    love it !!!

  • whoo!

  • best guitarists

  • sublime guitar work!

  • Richard Lloyd!

  • I'll bet him and Lou Reed have the same heroin dealer!

  • electrifying geeetars!

  • Me encanta la mùsica de Tom Verlaine pero.. que bien que suena la guitarra de Richard Lloyd! Puff!

  • Cool

  • Favorited

  • Great Lead Guitar !

  • call Mr. Jet Lee.

  • Lee Majors.

  • Yea, thats it, the ultra-hidden key to the song. Lee Majors uber alles.

  • I Love the Rich sounds of the Band and the Duo Guitars with their Wonderful echoey sound! These guys were Most excellent Musicians!!!

  • When I first heard this song, I thought it was Lloyd Cole singing.

  • He looks like david bowie to me

  • actuallly it is barbara bush on vocals with the constition up her ass.

  • I think she learned from Georgie, or is that Pol. Sci. #101?

  • I wonder if 'Mr Lee' is a reference to William Burroughs.

  • Old Bull Lee, never thought of that

  • thank you so much. Ive been wondering

  • Oh my God! Isn't that Vera from Excuse Me Sir???

  • That's Vera Beren of Vera Beren's Gothic Chamber Blues Ensemble in the cameos. Great video!

  • One of my all-time favorite videos...and ya gotta love Television's dual guitar leads...I have goose bumps....

  • Finally! My all-time fave as well. Love the bw simplicity and the way the guitar interplay between Verlaine and Lloyd is filmed! Television "Television" was one of the top albums of the 90s but received criminally little attention..maybe it came out at a wrong time when everybody was into acid house and the Strokes were still in school! Great big hand of applause to pincherbarnet for sharing this absolute classic with us!

  • I've spent a lot of time listening to Little Johnny Jewel on here and now have a descent guitar alternative in this track.

  • MTv Brazil has a live performance of this on their website.

  • Good song, awful hat...LOL, that's okay, Verlaine can wear whatever the hell he wants!

  • WOW, I saw this once on MTV (?) years ago and have been watching here for it sporadically - thanks for posting, pincherbarnet!

  • Very, very cool. Nice to actually see Lloyd tearing up a solo.

  • My guitar heroes. Love Lloyd's playing on this song.

  • Rip it up, Richard!! I've come to appreciate this album and this song in particular over the years.

  • Whoa! A real Television "video"??? Didn't know Capitol ponied up for such a thing for that record. Most curious...

  • Good song but what's up with that stupid had Tom?

  • Tom had a thing with hats during that tour.

Perhaps he was insecure about his bald spot?

  • The headgear thing started way before that. blame his girlfriend for that.

  • Maybe it's got something to do with Mr Lee?

  • who gives ashit about the bloody hat?
