I don't mind her changing words at all- I strum alot of songs that I change the words to all the time and most people dont catch it. I change the parts that I wouldn't have written in-- profanity or lewd phrases, and I think it is still respectful as I thought enough of the song and the artist to perform it but make it my own. just my opinion of course but I've never had anyone say a negative word after a set.
No, I'm not reffering to that.I know that the "missing" verse;(now the years are rolling by me...) is from Paul.
Joan Baez changes the wording in several strophes during the song, for example;(we are very much the same, instead of; we are more or less the same, etc., which I don't appreciate very much. I know it's not big deal, but still..
excuse me for my not perfect english:)I think that Joan Baez (I adore her) didn't mean to 'copy' the song by S&G (I adore'em too). In fact also the music and rhythm are completely different and not just some words. I think that an artist like Joan must give personal feelings to a so famous song. And so I appreciate the changes she make because they make the song 'new' again and full of new and different emotions. I like both the two versions. Thanks JTgrimteam for the reflection you suggested.
It's an S&G song and both adored Baez and were heavily influenced by her legendary folk lps. Paul has appeared in person with Her Majesty and worked on one of her lps, Speaking of Dreams.
there is no extra verse .. The verse : and now the years are rolling by me they are rolling evenly and I am older than I once was and younger than I'll be but that's not unusual no, it isn't strange after changes upon changes we are more or less the same Is from Paul too ... look at the version from 1975 in Pauls Tv-Show ...
Both name JB as a major influence. Paul has produced and sung on her recordings and Art's Barbara Allen was practically an imitation. Where did she get the extra verse?
Joan's version is even better than the original by Simon & Garfunkel, seems near impossible but there it is. And it's all due to her vision and voice

What a wonderful version.
Although I love Simon and Garfunkel's original, I'm pretty biased towards anything Joan Baez does. . . . love her, and her music.

Very beautiful, but I don't like when she changes the original lyrics during the song.
"The Boxer" belongs to Paul Simon and so does its lyrics,.always will
JTgrimteam 4 years ago
Are you referring to the "extra" verse that Simon and Garfunkel usually don't sing? Because those words are Paul Simon's too.
fuzzknot 4 years ago
No, I'm not reffering to that.I know that the "missing" verse;(now the years are rolling by me...) is from Paul.

You're right, it's not a big deal. Either way, she sings a great renditon of the song,:-)

Beatiful song and so beatiful women. Thaks for a lovely moment.
gerobertodiaz 4 years ago
By far, this is the most exquisite rendition I have ever heard...
...so much so that I was impelled to create a YouTube account to comment.
As far as I am concerned, Ms Baez's disarming voice and her weeping guitar are the only sounds I hear - everything else comes together beautifully.
She decorates this legendary song with the purity of innocence long lost and lends its verses singular poignancy, her signature perfection.
*Listen* to it.
Thank you for sharing this.

Do S&G sing the "changes" verse on any of their versions? Her version seems faster but the diction is awesome.
taddyd1 4 years ago
i wish that she could've stayed just solo guitar, it was so beautiful and then the drums and stuff came in
dont get me wrong it sounded great both way, but it sounded so fucking beautiful with just her and the guitar
