All you need to do is boil some water, place the end of the bottle in the water for about 10 seconds. Then you grab a rag and unscrew the cap. Refill bottle and done.
Im not sure how this hack works but. What I do is I use Pliers and I Gently un screw the cap.
Then I refill the wet jet cartridge with whater I want.
Another thing I do to save $ with the wet jet is I buy the washable microfiber cleaning pad that go on the Bona Hardwood Floor Mop and I cut them so they are the same size as the wet jet pads and place them on the wet jet
This totally worked! Thank you! I had to leave mine in for about 15 seconds (and drop the bottle all the way to the bottom of the pan) but sure enough, it came off with a bit of twisting afterward. I admit it still wasn't easy--I wound up using my teeth and a dish towl--but it worked! Thanks! I love the idea of the Swiffer Wet Jet but the solution sucks! Makes my floor all kinds of sticky. Now I can go back to using my Mr. Clean--my floors are clean, smell good, and it was easy! Thanks!
DidecylDimethylAmmonium Chloride is very harmful to humans and pets. Non of the disclaimers mention it as an ingrediant, but its there. they also ahve in very small print, a dog and cat with a circle and slash across it with the statement it may be harmful to pets.... just google the pesticide, its VERY freakin toxic!
if you dip the cap into boiling water for 10 seconds, you can unscrew the cap using a towel, refill it with what you want (diluted obviously) and screw it back on. No leaks, No mess. :)
You can just boil water and dip the cap in there for 10 seconds and it will come right off. Then you can just add your own solution. A lot of people just use Pine Sol. After that go ahead and take a t-shirt and sew it up with a backing that will stick to velcro or just sew on velcro strips if you have some handy. Now you have a reusable pad as well. If you can't sew you could always just strap a t-shirt over the mop head for a quick hack. Environment saved. P+G loses. The end. Have fun.
I tried this method and couldn't get the top off. I had to leave it in the water for longer than ten seconds. I then still couldn't unscrew it so I made my boyfriend do it hehe then it worked. The only problem is I think it's leaking. Maybe I added too much water and pine sol, heh.
I did it and got it to work after posting this and I DID have to do it for longer. Come to find out there are some nasty chemicals in the original Wet Jet solution that are not healthy to be around. It does work well but now I need to sew a t-shirt pad with velcro strips so I can stop buying the disposable ones they sell. Also, I am curious what powers the sprayer like if it's gravity fed or what cuz I could find now battery compartment.
You could always just wet the fabric you want to sew with pine sol and water or whatever cleaning product you have. I found cheap wet clothes at dollar tree meant for the swiffer wet jet, the old one that didn't have batteries.
@SteStir I've seen other hacks where they sew t-shirts into permanent Swiffer cloths. I do laundry every week so it seems ideal to me. I just don't want to give up that old t-shirt if you know what i mean lol. free is better than $1
@ShogaNinja At the automotive store you can buy a crapton of cheap white hand towels. I just lay it on the floor, put my swiffer over it and the velcro does the rest. I suppose I could always cut the towels in half, but I got lazy. Works either way and this way, the towels double as mop heads and hand towels. That way my old, favorite tees stay that. Old and favorite. XD
thank you for bringing this to my attention....imagine 2-3 generations ago cleaning with water and vinegar was the norm and safe as well as cheap and plentiful. Or lemon juice and water.
@bones76 vinegar and water cleans many things very well, people just stopped telling their kids about it and bought harmful cleaning agents instead. Vinegar cuts odors, cleans well. Baking Soda is another one that can be used for virtually anything.
It was nice of you to try and help people with this problem but there is a much easier way. Just boil the top for about 10 sec and you can open and close the bottle like any other bottle. search-"How to open and refill Swiffer WetJet Bottle" and you can see the video. someone pretty much already said that I just thought i would back them up ;). I should have thought of trying this a long time ago.
dip the top into boiling water for about 10 seconds to soften up the glue. Get towel, rap it around the cap. Twist counter clock wise to get it off. Once this done, you will no longer need to boil it in water to get it off.

You would have to not refill it too high or the contents inside would splash out if jiggled too much.

a rubber cork might work better than duct tape. other vids on you tube show better methods to remove cap or fill thru cap.

I tried this before I watched the video. It leaks EVERYWHERE. Don't waste your time.

No need to drill a hole
dip the top into boiling water for about 10 seconds to soften up the glue. Get towel, rap it around the cap. Twist counter clock wise to get it off. Once this done, you will no longer need to boil it in water to get it off.

An easier way is to just dip the top into boiling water for a few seconds and the cap will come right off and screw back on easily too for reuse.

Make sure you put your bung hole in the top.
