An R Rating means that they will STILL be restricted from these games but adults who might actually appreciate these games for their artistic merrit would be able to enjoy them.
We allow R rated movies, R rated books, and some pretty twisted comics (aka Crossed, great comic btw). So why not games? The 09 Discussion paper said people are influenced by games as much as comouter games, games are no worse. The average age of a gamer is adult, the majority of gamers are adults. We lag behind the rest of the world, we get the dud copies (Left 4 Dead 2) and have to import, pirate or smuggle the proper copies. We need to stop this fucking paternal attitude over censorship

I'm for moderate censorship in this area although with movies it's different; in a film we are not thr porotagonist. we may identify with him but there is a greater distance between us and the material; it is easier to lose your sense of reality if you are playing a violent computer game because the control over the action is there. Obviously not extremely violent games for that entire time, but for the last 4 or 5 years of my life I have been playing M15 games. They're violent video games. They are not real, and regardless to the fact that in real life you can kill people, you are not an invincible superhero with an endless arsenal of military weapons and so on. People have to have a grasp on reality to enjoy fantasy as well.
It's always an outside containment that ruins lives and so on, but the truth is, like all other things, it's the product AND the consumer. What about alcohol? Tobacco? Those are proven to have a negative influence on children.

I had my first atari and other systems with controversial games.

One interesting thing I have thought. A child is classified as someone under the age of 18 right? The highest Australian rating is 15+.
So kids are getting ultra violent video games through the OFLC at a 15+ rating rather than an 18+ rating.

We allow R rated movies, R rated books, and some pretty twisted comics (aka Crossed, great comic btw). So why not games? The 09 Discussion paper said people are influenced by games as much as comouter games, games are no worse. The average age of a gamer is adult, the majority of gamers are adults. We lag behind the rest of the world, we get the dud copies (Left 4 Dead 2) and have to import, pirate or smuggle the proper copies. We need to stop this fucking paternal attitude over censorship

Games don't make you want to kill people, these people make you want to kill people. I understand where they are coming from, though; not their opinion, which is wrong, but the fact that they don't game and don't understand why it is so upsetting. It is wrong because they do not understand that gaming can be a legitimate adult entertainment.

the fact is that its up to the parents to make sure that their kids dont get their hands on R rated games and their complaints to keep them out is a sign of ignorence, laziness and selfishness. The parents are the main problem to this issue as is that bloody south australian attorny >:(

This "panel" took the chance to make fun of a sensitive issue. Very unprofessional. We did not get a proper unbiased oppinion on the matter, and this show really just looks like a load of crap, where people bag out minorities (gamers are NOT in a minority btw). On the issue of the game "Rapelay", as a gamer who usually enjoys controversial games, I think the idea of this game, is dsgusting, a game where you can rape amother and her child? Its sick, and disturbing that sum1 cud think that up.

Good on this guy, standing up and saying something, that woman at the start isnt a bitch, she just does not know enough about the subject, and shes biased due to all her children being at a young annoying age. The fact that this show made fun of someone who tried to stand up for what he was saying is whats appalling. The brief description of "its a game where you kill people and inject yourself with drugs to kill more people" is a complete overstatement.
