But I never regretted any of it cause I made millions before I became disabled so now I don't have to worry about money. Plus I had all the safeguards in place prior to my disability so that in the event of one I would be taken care of financially at least. I just got laid off. What I'm going to do now is take a few weeks to write down data like : "what I'm able to do, what I enjoy doing, what I could learn, what I could make money with (market study), where I'd like to live and when I'm ready to move, how do my hopes fit with existing opportunities..." Then I should accurately define my objectives and the required steps to reach them.
And then an unexpected phone call may solve it all for me.

Your passion will pull you through. I'd hire you in a minute. Any interest in helping folks financially get control of their lives? It requires ALLOT of time on the phone counseling, & showing a real sense of compassion to people. Must be good at math! Don't know what you need to earn? But this opportunity is 50k - 150k depending on your results. Feel free to respond if interested.
Firstly, take grieving as natural process in order to get over your initial shock.
Secondly, it's important to look at things objectively, in its context. If you're laid off, it doesn't necessarily mean you're incapable. It could be the company cannot afford you during the crisis.
Ask what is the opportunity cost of it -how having that degree adds to your current skills, making you a more attractive candidate.

getting laid off sucks I have been laid off twice this this year once from a mechanics shop down sizing and the other was a nother shop that had to close bcz of the econimy, so now I am continueing my edjucation going from auto tech. to diesel tech. with a degree in diesel technalogy. do what you love and keep at it.
look every one gonna tell different shit the thing is psych really does have alot of opportunities. But how would you use that psych degree thats a question you need to ask yourself. and your communication skills doens have actually be corporate. Communication is thrown in to all different fields. so really what you need to ask is would you rather take the risk to get your psych degree or are you just wanting to play it safe and stay with communications.
Psychology is such a huge field you can do ANYTHING with it. You can probably even do some kind of PR relating with psychology. I'm in college right now getting my psych AA and im super excited.
Always find something to do that you love and have a passion for. There are way to many people that say I wish I could go back but they can't. They always say I would have done this or I would have done that but they can't do neither now...Follow what your heart tells you.
If you like PR so much, and you have an awesome personality, and you have good camera presence...go for a new anchor or something like that...could work well for you.
The only thing about Psychology is that you really will not make any money until you have a PhD. It also takes a long time to get that far. I have changed careers many times in my life, but I learned that sometimes I had to take interim jobs to give me time to work toward what I really wanted. For example, I worked an overnight job to get back into teaching during the day. I also worked as a cop for many years to get the free educational benefits from our state for me and my family.
Follow your heart, IE: Do what your passion leads you to, regret is a bummer when you are sitting in traffic going to a job you really don't like but because of personal finances you had to take..

I'm 23 years old and a Neurosurgeon at UofM. I started my career early knowing I have what it takes for this field, I love my job, and it pays very well. I'm still single, enjoying life to the maximum. Many people have told me I can't do this, I won't be good enough, but I guess it just goes to show you how people will always try to push you down, you just have to find the strength to get back up. And man oh man how great it felt to rub it in their faces.
Chase your dreams; if you don't know what they are go out and find them. The struggle is what makes life worth living, what makes it rewarding. I've learned that, and I'm now going after my "dream", starting at the bottom and it will take for ever to get to the top; I might never do it, I might even be making a huge mistake, but that doesn't matter, I'll be able to look back and say those days I truly lived.
i would have to think about it. how will you live while going to school? you will have to make plans to find work that will be flexible with you new schedule but i think you should go back to school!! once you have kids it would be too hard to start over because of the time you have to and want to put into them. do what makes you happy! follow your bliss! like you said, when will you get this opportunity again.

there are a lot of people who are in this situation more than once in their life due to lack of education, not being the right SORT of person, or whatever. noone wants to hire them and they don't have money to go to school. this country's companies run on types as well as network and resumes.certain types of people get in the door. others just don't no matter how kick ass the resume. consider your assets. nobody's special. good luck.
unfortunately psych is the new "generic" major which a lot of students are choosing when they're not really sure what they want. so i don't recommend that.
i would recommend moving to one of the national parks for the summer while you figure out what you want... it's easy and a great way to save money while being in a beautiful rare spot (i lived in alaska, at the grand canyon blah blah... so a little biased, but still highly recommended)
by know i would expect you have figured something out, but a couple of things in passing. (1) the average working American changes career fields (not jobs, fields) 5 times in their time in the workforce. that being said if you like your current field then rock on but dont be afraid to change. (2) DONT DO SOMETHING YOU ALREADY KNOW YOU WILL NOT LIKE. i have taken pay cuts to change to a job i like. yes my bank account gripes at me but i like going to work. its not something i dread. ttfn hot stuf
well my advise is to to a realistic point of view about things,
to make a list with pros and cons about sticking with this job or going back to another field.
personally i believe that if you have a good career in this field which probably is very well paid,then stick with it ,because changing a job doesnt change ur life and will not make u happy.. at the end of the day is just a job..im a psychology graduate, and to be fair helping other people is a good reward but very challenging.good luck

Firstly, take grieving as natural process in order to get over your initial shock.
Secondly, it's important to look at things objectively, in its context. If you're laid off, it doesn't necessarily mean you're incapable. It could be the company cannot afford you during the crisis.
Ask what is the opportunity cost of it -how having that degree adds to your current skills, making you a more attractive candidate.

But how would you use that psych degree thats a question you need to ask yourself. and your communication skills doens have actually be corporate. Communication is thrown in to all different fields. so really what you need to ask is would you rather take the risk to get your psych degree or are you just wanting to play it safe and stay with communications.

The only thing about Psychology is that you really will not make any money until you have a PhD. It also takes a long time to get that far. I have changed careers many times in my life, but I learned that sometimes I had to take interim jobs to give me time to work toward what I really wanted. For example, I worked an overnight job to get back into teaching during the day. I also worked as a cop for many years to get the free educational benefits from our state for me and my family.

I'm 23 years old and a Neurosurgeon at UofM. I started my career early knowing I have what it takes for this field, I love my job, and it pays very well. I'm still single, enjoying life to the maximum. Many people have told me I can't do this, I won't be good enough, but I guess it just goes to show you how people will always try to push you down, you just have to find the strength to get back up. And man oh man how great it felt to rub it in their faces.

unfortunately psych is the new "generic" major which a lot of students are choosing when they're not really sure what they want. so i don't recommend that.
i would recommend moving to one of the national parks for the summer while you figure out what you want... it's easy and a great way to save money while being in a beautiful rare spot (i lived in alaska, at the grand canyon blah blah... so a little biased, but still highly recommended)

by know i would expect you have figured something out, but a couple of things in passing. (1) the average working American changes career fields (not jobs, fields) 5 times in their time in the workforce. that being said if you like your current field then rock on but dont be afraid to change. (2) DONT DO SOMETHING YOU ALREADY KNOW YOU WILL NOT LIKE. i have taken pay cuts to change to a job i like. yes my bank account gripes at me but i like going to work. its not something i dread. ttfn hot stuf

well my advise is to to a realistic point of view about things,
to make a list with pros and cons about sticking with this job or going back to another field.
personally i believe that if you have a good career in this field which probably is very well paid,then stick with it ,because changing a job doesnt change ur life and will not make u happy.. at the end of the day is just a job..im a psychology graduate, and to be fair helping other people is a good reward but very challenging.good luck
