Seeing the numbers (of women in the workforce, of crimes commited against women, of women's salaries etc.) does not describe the subjective experience of women in society, nor does it necessarily illustrate their portrayal in culture (example : think of a famous movie quote. Was it uttered by a woman? Very unlikely. Good female characters in films are few)
