I liked Phils 79 Sonor kit. 3 mounted toms and 2 floor toms. He NEVER changed his tom heads cause he rarely hit them! He downsized a bit after this tour.
About a week before this show I saw AC/DC (along with Cheap Trick and Molly Hatchet) at tiny Pecatonica, IL at an all day rock and roll jam. In 1979 there was no video to speak of, MTV did not come on until 1981, therefore, it was only about the music back then. The 1970's were loaded with great musicians that would not make it today because they don't "look" good enough for video. Buck tooth Freddie Mercury would be an unknown if he was to come around now, regardles of his voice.
he was actually driving him home when he died, he wasn't left in the car alone. he just thought he was asleep, so its not really his fault. but yes it still sucks.
During the drive he noticed Bon had "drifted into unconsciousness" and, unable to lift him out of the car, he left him for the night.
"I put the front passenger seat back so that he could lie flat, covered him with a blanket, left a note with my address and phone number on it, and staggered upstairs to bed,"
A friend told him in the morning that the car was empty, but later that night he "was shocked to find Bon still lying flat in the front seat".
Again, it is a damn SHAME he died, Bon was my hero since 1978 and it SUCKS he died! Damn if Kinnear only would have woken him up.UNreal! Leaving a guy in freezing Feb weather out in a car with no heat, what a moron!
IMO bon is just great :D but dont forget, he died becouse of drinking a LOT, and when they realy beginning to become a blip on the map, so maby the bigger concerts became to stressfull for him and he drank more and more, what eventualy killed him :( but , jus tthank brian for helping us out and get ac/dc where they are now
i think any true acdc fan knows that gfrkiss, no two people sing the or have the same motives for singing. the fans see brian johnson as the best possible man to take the job. he was never a replacement.
i am so very sorry to say this , but when AC/DC lost Bon , they lost a massive part of the engine. I have nothing against Brian , but i'm 45 and i remember the 1st time i heard this band...WOW!!! When Brian joined , they started to slow down... Don't get me wrong , they still rock hard...but it's just not the same...sorry....
I saw them on the Back in Black tour at Hammersmith in 1980 ,then Donington Monsters of rock in 81 and 84...and they were good..and they were still young-ish ,but at Hammersmith and the 1st Monsters..they were really quiet..i mean quiet!! Which was really frustrating..but it was AC/DC...and yes they did rock..and yes ..i think Back in Black is the best Brian album..
I sort of have to disagree with you. I actually think they didn't slow down, but they didn't speed up either, they got a little cleaner. They weren't as rough, but I can honestly say I prefer Brian to Bon...I just like them both really, but I like Brian more, his voice IS an instrument you know? Bon was AMAZING, but Brian just blew me out of the water when I heard him. Also the quiet thing might be due to noise pollution.....but those were festivles so no...idk you were the one there lol.
I'm the same age as you man and I agree totally! Bon was the dogs bollocks!!! He had that air raid siren vocal that just cut above the Young brothers guitars.
It's a shame too because when MTV first started it seemed like a very good thing. But as it rolled along it became less about the music. as i said before Where does the "Music part come into play?" i think it should be called BSTV if you ask me! As for AC/DC as long as there's an audience they'll be rockin and you can count on that!
there wasn't music like this. rock and roll wasn't just about sex and drugs...it was about HAVING FUN and having a sense of humor...it kinda all came together whereas other bands were so serious about how they looked, ac/dc was ALL ABOUT ROCK N ROLL...these guys represented as the best band EVER
Justin Bieber is feeling owned now...

well i got that from what angus says about bon's death on there biography film, i'd imagine he'd probably know quite alot about it.

@carsrcrap Kinnear's own words:

"I put the front passenger seat back so that he could lie flat, covered him with a blanket, left a note with my address and phone number on it, and staggered upstairs to bed,"
