This is an excellent song to drive to along long stretches of road where there's no civilization for miles. (Example: Interstate 5 in California between Los Banos (Spanish for "the bathrooms") and Harris Ranch with its umpteen acres of beef-destined cattle.) It really makes time go by, almost hypnotically . . . mystically?
I remember seeing Jean-Luc Ponty at Toad's Place when they toured to support the Mystical Adventures album. The only disappointment was that they didn't play the last part of the Mystical Adventures suite (Part V), but as always, Jean-Luc has a great band.
Jean Luc Ponty Is the BOMB.. I have 36 of his CDs I dig each one. I have even copyed some of his rifs on my MIDI ax.. I found at times he must be using a Yamaha violin sound, because I managed to get his same sound. I wish I could be in a band that plays that kind of music. Later Johnny G.. Long Island
My comment below was in response to BOTTOM432's comment a year ago about Randy Jackson being the only one from the album who was not in this concert. Doesn't sound right just standing by itself.
i have a rare bootleg of a JLP concert in brazil with Randy Jackson on it must be from early 80s he is wearing an arl Cambell 55 jerzy and giant white sunglasses he causes such a camotion when he is itroduced by JLP Ponty sais whats going on over there? its hillarious
Yeah Randy Jackson played on the studio version of this titled "Mystical Adventures" of course the bass player on this footage is NOT Randy Jack. but the actually album was all him. He played alot of people,Billy Cobham, Narada Micheal, and more.
Yeah all the other players on this footage were the original cats that played on the wax version. It would've been cool to see Randy Jackson do the live Jean Luc Ponty dates. I also saw them live in Philly Randy wasn't on that date either.
Actually not quite true. The keyboard player on the album was my brother, Chris Rhyne. This video features Alan Zavod. Zavod is another phenomenal player who was with Ponty before my brother got his spot in 1980, long enough to record Civilized Evil, Mystical Adventures and Live at Chene Park. Then Zavod got his spot back. Chris went to work for Merv Griffin. He still lives in LA, doing mostly production but has occasional gigs. Chris is my favorite keyboard player ever, naturally.
Jean-Luc is the most gifted, hard working musician on the planet....so creative!!...awesome technique!!!...I don't think anyone comes close to his talent & its on one of the hardest instruments to play-he is a Master of the violin!! His music is sooo much fun to listen to!!!
what does je t'aime mean in french? is that supposed to be like "J'aime Jean-Luc?" (I like Jean-Luc) anyways, he is really good. its hard to be good on violin because there aren't any frets so the tune of a note can be off.
Je t'aime Jean Luc - "I love YOU Jean Luc" The violin is an ancient instrument. notes aren't going to be exact as in western styles. In Asian/Middle eastern/african music scales have double the amount of notes than western. Far more complicated to play and sing. Many Western instruments can't play most those styles because of the limited amount of notes. Violin is the closest instrument to a human voice. If you like Jean Luc check out Regina Carter. I'm out......

Yes that is Keith Jones on the bass but the famous Randy Jackson (before he became famous on American Idol) was recorded on the album.

It's a shame, everyone is just finding about Randy Jackson through idol. Randy was killing back in the day on the fusion tip. Randy is a bad cat.

wait, for real? randy jackson was in on the fusion scene back in the 70's and 80's? who did he play with?

IMHO the best discs by JLP are Aurora, Imaginary Voyage, Enigmatc Ocean, Cosmic Messenger, Mystical Adventure, and Civilized Evil.
He paired with some of the best musicians of the prog and jazz fusion movement and he stood above all of them.

Well I won't say he the most gifted, because you left out Stevie Wonder not only can he play the Piano, but also the drums, harmonica, and Bass Guitar
