  • simple version: Take 2 inch memory foam. ( The kind you get for your bed ), Put a hard carpet on the ground and put a softer carpet on that. Take the memory foam and place that on the carpets. Wrap the whole thing with 3 to 5 layers of duct tape. OR GO TO CRAIGS LIST AND BUY A MAT FOR UNDER 50 BUCKS!

  • let the finger hit the mute let the finger hit the mute let the finger hit the mute let the finger hit the... MUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEE

  • any chance i can get the list of materials and cost? i know you said you got alot from home depot, im not too savy on construction so i dont recognize most of it but i am looking into something similar. I have a 12 by 17 room i want to pad up for mma and commercial padding is a few thousand.

  • Very nice! :) PS:My friends and I divided the $1200 Ebay mats bill into 9 people.

  • how much did all of that cost you?

  • how much did you spend?

  • Can you post a list of all the Materials needed??

  • how much did it cost u?

  • Nice but puzzle mats would be about prob 15 more on top of the cost if this with ease. Lol but puzzle mats get stankey

  • Do you get a lot of people training there, your friends and such? It's very cool by the way. Do you move the sledge hammer and axes or whatever? Wouldn't want that shit falling on your head mid roll.

  • Nice job. Next time countersink the holes in the top piece of wood so the wood doesn't crack or, better, use a round head with a washer underneath so you have pressure applied over a larger area to hold the tarp in place and make rippage over time less likely.

  • Where do you guys normally train? I'll give you $20 if I'm in that area just to roll there. :)

  • thats bad ass!!!great job man!

  • hahahaha. you can thank you tube for that one. mute the damn thing!

  • @Isk8rduder where do you get the foam? please this is all i need for my mat

  • I wanted to see this video until that annoying old song played

  • i havnt had any problems with it what so ever. still supper good padding and ive yet to excede the limits of it. and that carpet padding is specifically designed now to wear down over time so it hasnt sunk at all. i did shove my toe through the tarp material one time but it was mostly because i got my toe nail stock on it. it took about 5 minutes to cut a patch and glue it over the top with the same 3M spray adhesive i used for the matts. havnt had a problem since.

  • How is this holding up now that you've had some time to use it?

  • whatever is the thickest. the vinyl tends to leave some good burns but who cares its mma!

  • Hey, I was thinking of using heavy duty poly tarp, as compared to vinyl tarp... what is your opinion on this? Did you use poly tarp or vinyl tarp for your own mat? I have access to 16 oz 20 mil Vinyl tarp, a 6 oz 12 mil poly tarp (heavy duty), and an 8 oz 16 mil poly tarp... the cost is not such a big deal, they're +/- $20 range in terms of cost difference. What do you recommend the most? Thanks a lot. If you have to, feel free to email me at governorsdiner at gmail. Thanks! GOOD LUCK!

  • Any update videos?

  • Gotta be something better than TARP. The rest all seems great. thanks!

  • i like the video its just hard to pay attention with the music haha

  • This is by far the most creative solution to home grappling needs.. I will definitely be using this idea.

  • @chiefkamikaze YEAH IVE BEEN IN CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING MY WHOLE LIFE AND THIS WAS THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE AND SUFFICIENT WAY TO MAKE A HOME MAT I HAVE COME UP WITH. IM STILL USING IT ALMOST EVERY DAY AND I HAVE YET TO HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. IT IS BY FAR PLENTY OF PADDING FOR GRAPPLING, TAKE DOWNS, MMA, AND WRESTLING. BEST OF LUCK ON YOU OWN HOME GYM. BEAT ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES ASSES.

  • how much did it cost?

  • doesn't the tarp give rug burns?

  • @ykcor69 no more than any other surface. tarp material is the same woven plastic material thats stretched over most gyms mats and and ive never seen anything else used in an octogon. next time your at your gym look closely at the seams in your octocon or thai ring or mma mats, they are almost always labeled by a tarp making company. the biggest difference is the rings materials are obviously much thicker than the materials that you can buy at your local home depot.

  • @ykcor69 since this video i actually upgraded my tarp to a thicker 10 mil tarp which is more than twice as thick than the heavy duty tarp you buy at home depot. remember its MMA not Ballet!

  • very nicely done bro!!!

  • Good Stuff Cory! Its crazy how big that garage looks with nothing in it. Add some fight music SON!

  • Thanks for posting this. Two questions. How much did it cost you to build this mat? And, is this enough padding for takedowns?

  • @GracieGarage yes we do take downs on it and i have yet to hit or notice the concrete underneath. its just as uncomfortable to be taken down on as the wresting mats i usually train on hahaha. depending on how much you get the padding for everything else ended up being under $100 for the wood, liquid nails, heavy duty tarp, screws, and adhesive. as far as the rest of the expenses goes it all depends on which type of padding you go with.................

  • @GracieGarage . i couldn't find any of my dense 8lb padding on craigslist so i ended up buying a roll at full price from home depot because i wanted to make sure that the top layer was super dense and legit and that was $170 dollars. the other 3 layers were 6lb carpet padding and those usually sell for $150 dollars a roll but i found a carpet dealer on craigslist who had brand new rolls for $60 so i bought 3 of them. ....................

  • @GracieGarage so i personally spent $450 on my whole mat which ended up being just under 15 feet wide and 20 feet long which is way less expensive than anything i have ever found and i was obviously able to make it fit to my specific garage and needs. the best deal i was able to find of a nice quality mat was 1.5 inches thick wresting mat 10x10 for $500. my mat ended up being over 2 inches thick and obviously much bigger. i hope this helps, thanks for your interest, Cory

  • and FYI: DO NOT GLUE THE TARP DOWN TO THE PADDING! if you do it will tear. g unit
