oh say by the way they make a negative wedge kit that fits in place of the regular top ball joint to clear these big rims--- so you don't have to grind out for clearance .i think you can get them from some mustang catalogues or direct from pro motorsports out of sandy, utah he also has the camber ecentric eliminator bolts, progressive springs, shock tower weld in enforment braces like on the boss 302 trans am cars it really stiffens up the front ---no more flexing or very little anyways.
yep, there's always one dumbas- in the crowd who has to ruin it for everyone bec ause he ain't cool enough or you ain't chevy enough for him---so let's run an impact wrench while there're filming for everyone's enjoyment!!! sweet sweet sounding 289!!! keep up the good work!!!
first vintage mustang i have heard that sounds like a 4valve cobra i have never heard that before maybe i am just living under a rock but still congratualtions to you for having one badass mustang. perfect color not to flashy rims and one bad ass motor
Those look like Am hopster wheels, what size wheels and tires are you running front and rear, what is the backspacing? Did you lower it and how, did you roll fender lips?
they r hopsters, 17 by 8 with 4.75 bs. which is good for the rear. did not have to roll fenders. but the front i should have gone with 4.5 bs. i had to grind the upper a arm for clearance. the tires are 235/45zr17
at 5500rpm the operator said it made 305h.p. there was something wrong with the dyno, it lost the signal from the engine. have not taken it back to check horsepower again.
riken raptor 235/45ZR17 on 8" ar hopsters i'm running 4.75 bs which is perfect for the back but i rubbed the upper a-arm in front,(just alittle in sharp turn), it needed ground for clearance. i think 4.5 bs for front would be better for the inside but then you would be closer to the fender. i also have a negative wedge kit on the a-arm which dropped the front 1". the car still looks high but the a-arm is 1" higher on the shock tower. hope this helps. good luck.
289,, good engine. Nowadays you can barely come by an original 289 V8. I've got an original 64 289 4 barrel V8 that came out of a 64 Mercury Comet Cyclone. I'm restoring the Comet right now and I'm going to put a 351W in then if I ever sell it I will put the 289 V8 back in.
Youre right, 289s inmustangs alone is hard to come by. They all seem to have 302s or have been stroked. I too have the original 289 in my 66 fastback. She just rolled over on 49,000 miles (yes original/documented). Wish i could make that kinda power with out having to tear into my motor.
DAMN thats awesome. gota love the insane RPMS of SBF. seems like i just tap the gas on mine and its at 5 grand! whats done to yours? what were your numbers? id like to know more about your car, its freakin sweet!
torque plate honed 30/289, 30-30 cross drilled crank, windage tray, custom oil pan,12.6 trws, crane cam 514 lift, pete jackson geardrive, port matched torker, 800doublepumper,hooker supercomp headers,69windsor heads, hardened seats, ingle springs and retainers, harland sharp roller rockers,10.5 mcleod long style clutch & aluminum flywheel, electric fuel& water pumps, electric fan, 3.89nineinch. look at the information about the video, most of this is in it.

svo65 3 years ago
hey please answer! Did you have to do any mods or roll any fenders for the 17s to fit?
68stangcoupe 3 years ago
no mods to the fenders. the tire and wheel combo is really no taller than the fifteens.
svo65 3 years ago
thanks... what size tires are you running? Im just making sure i want have to drop my car or anything to make them fit

if you run 7" or smaller wheel on front you should have no problem with clearance.

I have a 289 I'm rebuilding for a 66 coupe. All standard/Never been bored. The Hipo's are what are rare
dannymustang2009 3 years ago
Ya this engine aint a Hipo... unfortunatley. I took it apart and it was in really rough shape which is y i am putting a 351W in it.
