I definitely remember watching the uncensored episode in 1980, and at least one other time after that. It was broadcast on KCTS, the Seattle PBS affiliate, which ran Flying Circus episodes on Monday nights at 9PM from the mid 70s to the early 80s ("local funding for this program by Ivar's Acres Of Clams").
@zanarisrobo This bit is lost and has never been released on a DVD set. Certainly not in colour. If not, please provide a screenshot or a new youtube video?
@zanarisrobo When you check it I think you will find that the episodes skips this bit and goes straight from the cartoon vicar into How not to be seen. You won't find the telephone pole crucifixion there.
Why did they delete it? Let's see.....it was the early 70's, the world was a bit more conservative, and more people went to Church back in those days. It's a good thing Christians believe in forgiveness. I can see how they could get upset over their messiah being mocked in this matter. Python was not afraid to cross the line.
@Fooblestheclown The members of the Python actually met with church officials after the release of the Life of Brian. The resulting arguments were rabbid. These discussions were film for the BBC. I saw them on YouTube somewhere. Worth watching.
know something funny? in this episode, at the end, they replay the whole episode in 30 seconds. three frames of the deleted animation can be seen. so this animation performed the art of how to not be seen until seomeone found it.
a deleted monty python sketch called "wee wee winetaster" still is doing well with not beeing seen.
@avalanchesuperstar That is true but it would have been rediscovered eventually from 16mm b/w film copies even if those frames hadn't been there. As for wee-wee-winetasting and the big-nosed sculpture... were they ever recorded? It all remains semi-mythical or at the very least, apocryphical. The BBC says they do not have copies (anymore?). However the extended versions of some of the later episodes DO exist but have never been released. All very disappointing.
@themontypythonmuseum one sketch, "politicial choreogrpaher" was deleted and found in the wned (pbs) archives. you can find it here on youtube. note that episode begins with no its man and no and no
nude organist and no a.n.f.s.c.d.
because that was in the political choregorapher sketch.
but all of them were filmed. cleese admitted they did do a take of another lost sketch, "long nose sculptor", which has graham chapman sculpting a bust of cleese that has a long pinnochio sized nose.
@avalanchesuperstar That was deleted AFTER completion of the episodes. That too would have been discovered from 16mm b/w film or scripts. Yes, I know about the big nosed paintings, see previous post. One such sculpture appears in the background of the sherry drinking vicar sketch. On the other hand it is not certain if wee-wee wine tasting was ever recorded. But you don't have to tell me this, I'm the monty python museum, I have uploaded almost all of the videos that have not been wiped.
@themontypythonmuseum i was going to mention the sherry drinking vicar, where the "long nosed sculptor", which appeared earlier in the episode. theres another deleted sketch that i forget the title. "dads, pets, something something".... i dont know what, but it was orginally planned for episode 35.
another interesting one was that the animation in episode 36, there is an animation of animals in a jungle (one of them is mickey mouse lol) and they are grabbed by a hand and thrown into a blender and are made into a cocktail. it was supposed to lead into another deleted sketch: "revolting cocktails". they did do this live, however. im not sure why they cut it. that and "half a bee"
@themontypythonmuseum I'm quite sure Wee-Wee Wine Tasting was recorded, because I first heard of it about 15-20 years ago when my sister and I were reminiscing about watching MP when it was first broadcast on PBS circa 1974 and she described the sketch, in even more detail than Palin did recently in Almost the Truth. Very sad to say I myself don't remember it, but clearly she must have seen it.
@Druffmaul That is amazing. There is no record of it ever being broadcast. It is almost impossible, everyone agrees the sketch was cut and replaced with something else before first transmission and was probably destroyed afterwards.
On the Python documentary, Almost The Truth. Troma director Lloyd Kaufman refered to Mary Whitehouse as "Grandma Blowjob" LOL!! XD
But seriously folks, moral campaigning doesn't work, all they do is attract more attention to whatever they're up in arms about, epic fail for them everytime.
@DonaldMcKinney Indeed. Witness the whackjobs in NYC who protested the premiere of "Life of Brian" without having seen it. I believe Cleese said they made him a rich man.
@DonaldMcKinney Oh, and... Hey, you, Whitehouse Ha ha, charade you are You house-proud town mouse Ha ha, charade you are You're trying to keep our feelings off the street You're nearly a real treat All tight lips and cold feet And do you feel abused? .....!.....!.....!.....! You gotta stem the evil tide And keep it all on the inside Mary you're nearly a treat Mary you're nearly a treat But you're really a cry
Just spotted something else, the vicar at the start the 'right' side of his jacket has been 'cut & pasted' out of the earlier scenes (save colourising time) am I right? couldn't do the same with the left because of the arm and phone.
Though it is sacreligious, the satan part is hilarious. But I really liked the whole scene before that with the preacher in it. Why isn't the whole thing included into this?
No, Mary Whitehouse. She was a Christian censorship bitch who really shoved her nose into everyone's business when she saw something she did not like. Doctor Who was one of her frequent victims. :P
@TheCastellan My god! What a fucking bitch! O_o I HATE religious extremists! It's people like her who give God a BAD name(that goes for other religious extremists out there like VenomFangX from Youtube.)! People like that are an epic failure to this whole world. *sighs and facepalms towards that shit* -.-;;;

@WolfyPsycho Yes, God hates religious people especially Christians for obeying and defending his laws and loves people like you who haven't a fuckin' clue.
@TheCastellan Someone told me that the Dr. Who people actually looked forward to her starting shit because it brought viewers to their show. I hope it's true; it'd be great for a laugh.
Still...without that useless bitch, we could have had more stuff in Dr. Who. Even though Tom Baker said Doctor Who had a lot of violence...he, in an interview said there was not enough. I think he only said the former for Whitehouse to get off his back, since she PERSONALLY phoned actors from shows she objected to, trying to 'talk sence into them'. I think she called Louise Jameson and Sophie Aldread several times in particular.
I saw a programme concerning Mary Whitehouse! Her original name for her censorship group was "Clean Up National Television" or C.U.N.T. for short! XD)))
I remember seeing the censored version as a kid when they reran them on PBS in the 80s... that episode had a final bit where they replayed the whole episode really fast, and there were one or two shots of this animation that you could see if you froze the frame on the VHS... I never thought I'd actually get to see it!
John Cleese cut the scene from subsequent repeats , although it was shown the first time the episode was transmitted. See also ' Politician Choreographer ' sketch. That too was cut.
