First time hearing you, and oh my god. This is absolutely stunning, i don't think words can do proper justice to how beautiful this sounds. I can only tell you how much i love this through words, which might not seem much, but its all i can do; if there was a way that i could possibly tell you much i love this then i would. Amazing work here man, keep on making music, you will get extremely far one day!
I can imagine riding in a horse drawn carriage going from east to west when I hear this, and seeing Yosemite for the first time, untouched by mankind. This would be great for a western.
This is a really fantastic piece of work. As much as I loved John Barry and his score for Dances With Wolves, there are definitely a few scenes your music could easily replace very well such as The Ride To Fort Hays. Very impressed! What version Mac are you using and did you have to put EWSO on a separate hard drive?
@ShiningHourPop Thanks for the listen! I love John Barry's work in DWW, so it's an honor to even be put in the same sentence as him. For this piece I used a Macbook Pro running Pianos Gold and EWQLSO on the main hard drive, but I've since changed my setup.
I don't know if I wrote a proper comment on this piece yet chris, but even if I did I will now again.
Honestly, this is brilliant. And I don't say that lightly. I like this a lot more than many scores on my ipod. I think this is more passion filled and inspiring than many famous film composers now adays.
Truly remarkable Chris. I nearly cried. Very few pieces have done that to me
@realseoul Glad you enjoyed! I can't really give a solid time frame because I love letting things develop over time, but it was sort of a summer project that I worked on whenever I was free. Though, I will say that orchestrating it was 90% of the effort (and 90% of the fun)!
This truly captures the beauty of the west for white and Lakota alike. I salute you and your effort to remind us of our past. Whether it is one Lakota going after his fist tatanka, (buffalo) or a cowboy rising ove the crest of the hill to see freedom horizon to horizon, this music, this beauty, is waht unites us all as one. You are helping to tie the circle of the medicine wheel. God Bless you
Hello! I am a filmmaker but am a composer on the side with a lot of influences. And I too have been thinking up many, many compositions since I was a child. I have been looking for good orchestra plug-ins for GarageBand myself, when I stumbled upon the EastWest collection. This absolutely magnificent piece you've written makes me want to purchase it even more. Keep up the good work. :) Matt
Wow I am totally amazed - I didn't know there is such a great Software!
Could you please tell me/us what's the name of it?
Again: Wonderful job - this theme is fantastic! It brings pictures from "Legends of the Fall" to my head and I really can hear some Michale Giacchino in it.
Your music is touching and inspiring! I almost cried, I don´t know why. But tears of enchantment. So don´t feel sorry to compose beautiful music. Thanks for sharing your talent. Wow. ΛNDЯÉ ☺
I really love your composition. I compose a little myself. What would you recommend to someone like me who would like to improve their composition skills. What do you think about studying orchestration? Do you know of any good books or websites where I could learn on how to compose for an orchestra? Any advise would be helpful. Once again I love your music!
@jaredmusic100 Hey Jared! Thanks a ton... ah, if I had to offer any advice, I would simply say write, write, write. Generally, everything you write will be better than the last thing you write---you'll only get better. As far as orchestration goes, I learned by listening, but depending on how you work there are definitely good resources available. Try doing a google search for "Principles of Orchestration Online" for a pretty good interactive crash course on classic orchestration! Best of luck!
absolutely amazing, Chris! I really don't mean to seem like the ex-roommate-of-your-current-roommate stalker, but from one musician to another- this is brilliant! congrats on all you've accomplished so far and may you continue to be blessed, man! keep pursuing your own big dreams- I think we'll see great things from you, sir!
@brettcallan16 Hahaha no worries Brett---and thank you! I really want to get this one performed, we'll see what happens. And by the way, Cali is absolutely fantastic. I love it here!
It boggles my mind that this composition received a "dislike." Certainly everyone has their unique preferences, but the amount of work that went into this is evident. Beautiful!
This is really magnificent... and credit to you for noting your influences without sounding like them! I'd rank this amongst the best compositional work I've come across on youtube - very moving and stunningly orchestrated. Those sounds are superb, too.
This piece should have millions of views by now. I never get tired of listening to this wondrous piece of yours. What makes music like this so moving over all other forms of music in the world is that it allows one to move the heart in a very deep and soulful way that other music can never achieve even with words.
The only other composer that comes to mind when I listen to your heartfelt music is film composer, John Barry who until finding you, has been my #1 inspiration for film music.
I really mean it, I spend a lot of time seeing what other composers are up to and you'd be surprised at how much bad stuff there is around, this was literally a breath of fresh air, something that made me think 'ahh the future of this industry has some promise'.
Also I wanted to say well done on the mix as well, I know East West sounds very well and you've succeeded in making them sound realistic.
If you have any time please check out my channel too :)

Hey Chris - I've actually been all over "The West" - from Washington, Idaho, and Montana, all the way down to Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado, and pretty much everywhere in between. If some young documentarian was creating a new series about the places I've seen, and the poetry they inspire, then they should hire you and use this clip as the theme music. That was some perfectly-conceived, gracefully-orchestrated cinematic music of the first water. Go get a job now in the industry.
