I'm headed to bear country next summer (Alaska). I was thinking of getting a handgun to carry for bear protection. Do you think the .45 cal is the best round for that use?
@dahveed284 it's one of many choices really, some use a 357. revolver, as those are used for normal bear hunting.
BUT if you prefer semi autos like me then 45 is the best choice. =) unless you feel like running around with a "hand rifle" like the desert eagle, but i'd rather not.

what is the best way to store ammo for long term? we are in Florida with lots of humidity. is it ok to place loose ammo in zip lock bags and then place that in sealed plastic box or is it better to do vacuum seal with food storage bags?

@RPChiocca If I were to CC, I'd go with a .45 loaded with JHPs. 9mm +P is hell on your barrel and overpenetrates. To target shoot, I would get a .22 conversion for that, .22LR is surprisingly accurate and it's dirt cheap.
If you want aa 9mm, there are better options than the Springfield, like a Glock 17 or P226. The former doesn't have the best trigger, so I went aftermarket on that. The latter is an all around excellent gun, I just personally like the Glock more. I also like the Hi-Power.
The coolest thing about these videos: when hickok's camera man zooms in close on the gong, you can actually watch the bullet travel through the air before it nails the gong. you can even see the bullet drop slightly as it moves.

great video on the springfield! ive been wanting to add another piece to my small collection. I have been eyeing the springfield but what are the big difference between the xd and the xdm? Glocks are awesome guns, no doubt about that. I own three Glocks and would trust my life to them. That said, Springfield XD and XDm's are like Glocks with a few extra bells and whistles. In my opinion, they are greatly undervalued. Today I picked up the very gun in this video, and I have yet to try it. If it is anything like my other Springfields, I'm sure I won't be dissapointed. You won't be either.
That's cool as hell. If you look closely at the first shots at the steel, you can see the slug contrasted against the black just before it impacts. Nice shooting Hickok!

How is the grip size compared to other double stack .45s? Many double stack .45s are too large for my hands. After picking up an XDM 9mm I was amazed by how small of a grip it had for how many rounds it held. Thanks!

Awesome! How is the recoil on that? I must say I like the Rock Island .45 because it has the old 1911 feel and look and its actually quite affordable.
I have this same gun and im dissapointed in the finish of the slide. I love the Glock tenifer finish and Smith and Wesson does a good job baking the finsh on. This black finish to me is too susiptible to scratching. I was admiring it one night and my wedding ring left a scratch on the top of the slide just by me running my hand over it. I havn't shot the SA .45 5.25 yet and i may not at all and just sell it. Maybe then the .40 ing Stainless will be available. You think i oughta shoot it first?
as always another great video- I wouldn't have brought it up otherwise but you mentioned the fact that you buy bulk ammo as much as you can. I've been wondering; have you more or less given up reloading?
can any one explain the significance of the section at the end of the slide that appears to have removed ( I know it actully is made like that) im just not sure what it does
@2ndAmendment99 That is to make the slide lighter, to make cycling reliable. (because the slide is extra long compared to the normal length.........dunno if it was really necessary though as the 1911 has a long heavy slide and works just fine....)
I think the reason for the top of the slide having been machined out due to this firearm being what they call a "Compensated" model. Compensated handguns are easier to handle (less percieved recoil) and in turn aid in a quicker target recovery.
I could be wrong, just my opinion....... I have yet to watch the whole video, lets see if hickok mentions this.
i love the pistol vids. but alot of kids these days are into the remington model 700. in any caliber. and the berretta m9. this would draw alot more attention to the world of safely handeling firearms. i would like to see thse myself. THANKS

I don't think i particularly like that "cut" over the barrel on springfeild's guns, it seems like it would cause dirt to get in and around the barrel.
You really need to shoot / do a review on the Glock competition models to compare them to the xdm 5.25's. Like the glock 17L, glock 24 and the other long barrel glocks. Just a wish :)
You really must do a video on the FN FiveSeven. I rented it the other day at the range and it was one of the most interesting handguns I've even shot.
Hm, don't those plates and all that ever get pierced? Maybe these handguns just aren't powerful enough, or are they designed not to penetrate (I heard some/most bullets are designed that way to prevent accidentally shooting through stuff/people into other people)?

I think it just refers to a barrel/bullet made to extremely specific standard/level of quality. I might be wrong though, but I seem to recall hearing that.

@SuperCutter2 , I'm still a Glock guy, but who want an "All Glock" channel ! :-) I have a million Glock videos, so whenever I get an opportunity to do something outside the Glock line, I probably will, as long as it's a quality firearm. Glock is still number one for me, but there ARE some guns that come in a close second, and people enjoy seeing them. My Glock 27, 26, 23, & 19 are my favorite "serious" pistols on the planet. All my serious carry holsters are for these four guns.

I JUST today picked up the sweetest new OD Green Frame/BLACK Slide .40 16+1 XDM and it, like my 3.8 is a bit big, and I LOVE the smaller backstrap, if you haven't already you should try the large grip. You might prefer it?

@hickok45 It's kinda hard to explain, but you always say you know where to hold. When you say that, do you mean you hold off target, or are you aiming on target? Because I know that factory sights on some guns aren't exactly completely correct to where the bullet goes.

Hm, don't those plates and all that ever get pierced? Maybe these handguns just aren't powerful enough, or are they designed not to penetrate (I heard some/most bullets are designed that way to prevent accidentally shooting through stuff/people into other people)?
I'm so clueless when it comes to guns.

H45-I'm with ya,there is something about those big,fat rounds.I love 45ACP!I also love the Springfield XDs, and I own several.I have fired over 1000 rounds of all different kinds thru them without one malfunction.You can't argue with that!!

What do they mean by "match grade barrel"? Is that something real or just marketing talk? Sorry if I missed that as a FAQ somewhere along the way...in your few hundred vids. Great job as always.

I think it just refers to a barrel/bullet made to extremely specific standard/level of quality. I might be wrong though, but I seem to recall hearing that.

Man, it's really great to see you shooting a lot of Springfields lately, I'm really enjoying these 5.25 model shooting series in particular. Glad to see you using the Uplulla loader a lot too; I'm really enjoying mine as well since I picked one up a while back, it saves the fingers for sure. Good job.

@coty734 Yeah, it's a relatively slow round, which is because ballistic testing confirmed slower velocities cause more grievous wounds.

Hickok45 you went from Glock to Ruger, Kahr and now Springfield, what up? I purchased three Glocks 23,27,26 after watching your videos and now your pushing Glock aside for the other makes. You even stop wearing your Glock hat. This is a sad day indeed.

@SuperCutter2 , I'm still a Glock guy, but who want an "All Glock" channel ! :-) I have a million Glock videos, so whenever I get an opportunity to do something outside the Glock line, I probably will, as long as it's a quality firearm. Glock is still number one for me, but there ARE some guns that come in a close second, and people enjoy seeing them. My Glock 27, 26, 23, & 19 are my favorite "serious" pistols on the planet. All my serious carry holsters are for these four guns.

Hey Hickock I was wondering if you've ever tried out the larger backstraps with your big hand's? I JUST today picked up the sweetest new OD Green Frame/BLACK Slide .40 16+1 XDM and it, like my 3.8 is a bit big, and I LOVE the smaller backstrap, if you haven't already you should try the large grip. You might prefer it?

Good video, thanks! For the people stuck on "Made in Croatia", the Croatian connection comes in because they originally designed it and retained the manufacturing rights (HS Produkt). Their original design, goes by "HS 2000", and is battle-proven and well thought of in the global market.

Very enjoyable firearm demonstration, but seeing that Made in Croatia on the gun was a little disappointing. I have nothing against Croatia, but I wish the XD series would be made in America. It's what I'd expect from a historically American name like Springfield.

@hickok45 It's kinda hard to explain, but you always say you know where to hold. When you say that, do you mean you hold off target, or are you aiming on target? Because I know that factory sights on some guns aren't exactly completely correct to where the bullet goes.
