Hey @Dodo251, i know how amazing classic composers such as bafh, mozart and beethoven were. And I know that mozart's music quality easily overcome beatles's. But the beatles did something that classical composers never did: they brought music to people that doesn't had blue blood, that wasn't living in palaces. They filled the world with happpiness and beautiful melodies. Mozart is only a genius next to them. Got it?

@Dodo251 Actually, as far as influencing modern music goes, I'd say the Beatles rank higher than Mozart and Beethoven in terms of sheer popularity and ingenuity. Beethoven and Mozart lived in a very different world to ours, and while they definitely played a part in the sculpting of music as an art, the Beatles shaped popular music like no-one before or since. I'd hardly call Mozart a "phenomenon," and while I don't 100% agree with the original statement, it has ounces of truth in it.

You'd hardly call Mozart a phenomenon because you're uneducated in music and don't realize what it means to write a single symphony, let alone 41. Mozart wrote 626 pieces from 5 to 35 and I guarantee that just few bars of his or Beethoven's music are much more complicated and demand more playing ability than any Beatles song. Disagree with me all you like, it's the truth and live with it.

@drummerjacob I have to disagree since I'm a big Beatles but at the same time I'm a realist and know a thing or two about music. To say their music is for old washed up people is frankly stupid because they are still just as popular as 30 years ago and it's a fact. Not only will they be remembered forever as the greatest popular musicians but they will eternally be loved and praised by people like Bernstein who knew their quality. On the other hand, there is no comparison to classical music.

Modern Music. Mozart and Beethoven's world was one in which music could not be recorded, or sold, or distributed. Modern music is a billion-dollar industry, and it was artists like the Beatles who rocketed up "the charts," sold billions and billions and made music an ECONOMY. Without men like the Beatles, the industry as we know it today wouldn't be the diverse cultural bastion it is today.

@drummerjacob Again, The Beatles DID create rock with their first ever progressive and concept rock albums. They pushed the envelope and the rest just followed in their footsteps. That aside, their music, which may be simple when compared to grand works of classical composers, still excels when compared to the other popular musicians. Their lyrics (1965-1970) were abundant with quality and their music was both intelligent and complex (again, compared to the rest, not with classical music).

@Dodo251 It's all about enjoyment and both Beatles and classical music bring a lot of it. As for me, it depends on the mood. I love listening to the Beatles during the day, especially their later work which are overwhelmingly good and pleasurable while on the other hand, when evening comes, I simply adore listening to Beethoven, Shostakovitch, Mozart, Bach etc. It's arguable who is the best composer but for the sake of it, let's just say the Beatles were Mozart of POP(ular) music.
