Thankyou for such a heartfelt rendition, it was a pleasant surprise to find the song on here. It has such a poignant quality that always seems to lull even the most racious audience!
Thank you so very much for posting this beautiful song - a truly wonderful version that does justice to Stan's poignant lyrics. What a talent you have. WHAT a talent.
Wow. You Sir have a real talent. I am an Eric Bogle fan who has come to Stan's music that way - but your version is the best I've heard. I'm going to listen to some of your other stuff now but thank you for this. It's just lovely.
I sang this in the car on the way back from the JR in Oxford on 01 10 94 a couple of our after the birth of our 2nd son Matthew, "My wife has given me a son"!
Nuff said, I needed windscreen wipers on my eyeballs!
It's a Yamaha FGX720SCA I purchased a year ago. I was in the market for a new guitar and played a number of different ones around town including the Gibson J45 and a number of Takemines but this one had the best sound and nicest neck - it was what I was looking for - and it was nearly a fourth of the price of the higher end guitars.
good job on 'dat 'un me little buddy keep the Stan tunes coming and others too!!!D'at's as good a friggin version of this song as I have ever heard !!!If y'er in town 'ere somewhere giv uz a shout by' .........Andrew(not a newfie fiddler rather a newfie "fisher"..) fly' that is
Stan was a folk troubadour...his talent was eternal...I can hear Stan in your performance...beautiful and passionate and touching...beauty never dies....only the skin colour!
thank you so much. I went to Hamilton teachers college with Stan Rogers and he quit, thank goodness to begin his musical career. This big man said to the shy girl sitting on the bench, "Hey, you look like someone worth knowing." God bless him for saying that, for my voyage has been hard. Thank you for singing this so wonderfully. I love the people of the east coast, homeland of my mother, and Newfoundlanders are the best people on this planet. Keep it up. L.
Thanks so much for the comment. I didn't know him and was but a child when he passed away. It wasn't until I actually moved away to college that I was introduced to his music by a friend. The east coast has many great people and I believe that's why Stan spent so much time visiting there and writing songs about it. Thanks again for your heartfelt comments!! J
Nicely done...did you warm up your voice before starting recording?....I thought you started a little tight but worked into it well. Enjoyed the guitar work as well. :-)
My mic is super sensitive so I am always a little reserved when starting most songs. If I sing at full volume the mic peaks and the sound becomes scratchy. Thanks for the somment!
Very nicely done! Just a thought. You might want to try DADGAD tuning with Capo 2. The open tuning really gives this tune a rich feel. I love Eric Bogle's version better than Stan's. Keep them coming!!
One of my favorite Rogers' tunes, admirable job, best version I have heard since the tribute album. Keep them coming, 'cause I'm stuck here on the prairies!
This is lovely, thank you. Perhaps one of my favourite songs, not least because of Stan Rogers and the wind in the willows and its suitability as a warbling bathwater tune. You did well by it. :-)
Great job, I have not heard that great piece of music done that well in a long time. Made me want to get home very soon,am stuck in the UK untill january. Thanks for posting it..
Man, im so touched byeverything you play. you convey emotion well, and i really love your stuff played inopen d like first christmas.

Excellent tribute, newfie. You capture the spirit of Stan. Can you do White Squall? How about something of Garnet's? Black Eyed Susan?
Excellent job.

Great singing. I think dropped D is the answer. It would deepen the bottom D note but this is still an outstanding performance. Great job.
