i have a canon 60 d with a 18mm to 135mm lens. what happened to the depth of field distances that were on the old style lenses. it was easy to read the distance from the subject to the lens? I love my new camera but there is no way to determine the dof I guess unless you somehow memorize the f stops.
@Jrconley1 Thanks for your question. With the newer cameras like your EOS 60D, there is a Depth-of-Field Preview button adjacent to the lens mount. You can now concentrate on how your photograph would like like by pressing this button and not worry about calculations anymore. Hope this helps. Many thanks, the Canon team.
@1144chico Hi there, there are various ways to adjust the shutter speed on the Canon EOS 600D. Please consult your manual for more detailed information. Many thanks, the Canon team.
There is something I don't understand. There is an aperture setting on the camera yet you can adjust the aperture on the lenses themselves right? How does the setting on the camera translate to the baldes on the lenses? I'm considering getting a 550D but just want to understand everything before hand.
There's no reason or way that anyone can not start down a creative road with all the help you can get online. Fantastic. And thanks for the tutorial Aussie Canon!
This is great! I took Digital Photography my Sophmore year in high school and I never really understood the concept. This has helped me alot. :) This will help me alot starting out in college. I'm going for photography.
my question is that if u were to use a small aperture to achieve a sharp picture, in order to do that i got to use a rather slow shutter speed to capture a sharp picture - which may results in blur image if i do not use a tripod. is there any way of not blurring the image without using a tripod, especially for a fashion shoot?
hey good looking...the egg trick did it for me. there are so many confusing tutorials but this one makes sense ...one egg (one number for the f) 10 eggs (more numbers for the f) yeah....
I had recently bought a 600D and I think I've got most of the basics covered already. I'm having trouble getting the 22 eggs to run away from the camera though. Care to make a tutorial for that?
EXCELENT TEACHER!!! THIS GUY EXPLAIN SIMPLE AND SUPER CLEAR!!!!! I HOPE HE MAKE MORE TUTORIALS LIKE THIS. THE OTHERS GUY IN THIS SERIES SPEAK TOO FAST TOO UNDERSTAND,
LIKE Graham Monro OR Chris McLennan I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHEN SPEAK ABOUT THE LENS ARE USING.
BUT THIS GUYS ( CHRIS BRAY) IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND!!!!
bro i like the simple way of explaining I've just bought my Canon DSLR 500D and your videos helping me in so much better way now i am using the AV Mode which i never use it. thanks a lot..
@AlahaJan Use the focus ring on the lens to focus on the subject further away. It should make the object in the foreground out of focus and the object in the background in focus.
One reason this is confusing for many is the widespread incorrect use of terms. At 1:03, you say "the smaller the aperture, the larger the diameter of the opening." Well, by definition, an aperture is a hole or opening, so with this in mind, you just said that "the smaller the opening, the larger the diameter of the opening" which is obviously wrong. To correct your sentence, you need to replace 'smaller' with 'larger' OR replace 'aperture' with 'f-number.'
The terms 'Higher', 'lower', 'larger', 'smaller', 'f-stop number', 'aperture' need to be carefully used. I would recommend using 'Higher/Lower' for describing f-stop number and 'Larger/Smaller' for aperture.
can you please create some tutorials that use more practical elements. this means physically showing us with a canon camera, changing the depth of field by using the camera buttons and scrolling through the menu etc.

But I need help, its a little bit confusing, like i want to use a shallow depth of field but if i use soemthing like f4 the brightness of the picture reduces :\
