yeah really, the t-shirts say "I'm not a DJ", and besides, his sets are a lot more complex than a simple 2 track dj set up. Holy crap! I just turned down the bass and used a computer to sync the BPM then cross-faded some other shit. Big deal.
..(comment cont.)...supposed to be, but his set did not get better than a drunk girl at a party singing along to her ipod. compare that to girl talk, who changes and layers samples multiple times a minute. there is a fundamental difference with the final product of his work vs. the others...he makes the things he samples his own by changing their musical context. playing all your favorite songs in a row on turntables (traditional DJing) is rarely as complex as layering them like girl talk does.
i bet most people who say he sucks because "its not complicated/hard work" are just jealous that he is better at this than them....also i was in the sahara tent this day, and earlier in the day way before girl talk went on the "dj" was literally singing over top a rage against the machine song. and he just played the whole song. no mixing, nothing, just a couple dudes running around the stage with squirt guns while another guy ruined a great track. i dont know what that waste of a concert was...
Ableton Live? I use it 4-5 times a week. So, yeah, I think I understand. I guess I just don't understand how hard it is to run a sample and jump up and down on a table and scream your head off.
Whatever he uses is irrelevant. He shared the stage with the Bloody Beetroots, Plump DJ's, Chem's, Crystal Method and Groove Armada. All of these DJ's are actual "DJ's". He shouldn't be allowed to share that stage, his set was terrible.
i'll agree that it's kinda silly to throw him in with those types. they don't play anything remotely similar.
at any rate i wouldn't even call this dude a dj, but that doesn't take away from what he does in any way. it's still stupid fun and if you disagree with that then you must really hate life.
if you guys want to fuel a fucking debate.
I enjoy whatever fucking sounds good. good music is not defined of how hard it was to make, but how good it sounds.
And I love Girl Talk because its fucking awesome, i couldn't give a shit of how hard it is to make it.

don't be mad at the man because he's doing something far more exciting then you.
his stuff is fun, maybe not revolutionary, but fun as hell.

he uses audio mulch for his live sets its the same concept as ableton live
it doesn't have as nice of an interface
i have no idea why in the hell he would over complicate it with MAX MSP but i could be wrong
