They criminalized efficient refrigerants under a scientific hoax of "Ozone Holes", so the lower efficiency stuff wastes fuel & adds to pollution. They criminalized DDT, so poor nations suffer millions of slow torturous deaths from bug-borne diseases every year. They criminalized forest management, so fires are unstoppable & destroy much more of nature & property, and kill more, and pollute vastly more. A town in Washington recently criminalized soap; VIDEO: "Criminalizing Soap".

"Nannies" is too kind a word - though appropriate. It makes such laws seem more like minor problems. When they outlaw incandescent bulbs in 2012 - and force us to us to use florescents (including CFLs) it's a major problem! Still I love your idea of Nanny of the month. Thanks

actually I heard - some 20 years ago - when tourist spotted woman suntanning topless on the rooftop he was threatened by policeman with a fine for watching somebody at her private property (stalking). But obviously one generation later (degeneration?) that woman would be fined... Did they change American constitution?
