Did you hear the coming-up-next announcer? "Critics are calling thirty-something the best show of the decade." Wasn't this in 1990? Monopoly could've been called the best show of the decade. I miss when the old announcers did that.
@WarioBarker88 Merv Griffin produced 12 episodes of "Monopoly", the game show back in 1990, but Hasbro is the company that made the board game. It's a shame that Hasbro never saw the light of day of airing reruns of "Monopoly". Look what Hasbro has done, they co-distributed with "Scrabble" with Fremantle where they owns the Reg Grundy library. And CBS TV Distribution co-distributed with Hasbro for the 12 shows of that failed game show which is "Monopoly".
This show is pretty good, but that doesn't need it doesn't need improvements. If it were revived today, I would:
1) Get a new host. About Mark Walberg would be right.
2) Use regular trivia questions. Save the crossword clues for Ty Treadway.
3) In the first round, just blaze through the board before the first commercial. After the break, tie up the loose ends of split monopolies. Use a graphic to show how many more questions you need to answer to win, don't have the host
announce "x, you just need to answer one, and y, you need two in a row" over and over.
4) If a contestant answers incorrectly, don't make a big deal of it. "X, I'm sorry, but that's incorrect. We're going to have to take $xxx away from you." Just take the money away and move on quickly, a la Jeopardy!.
5) Mabye add a skill element to the bonus round. "Roll the dice, and don't land on Jail" seems like a Barry-Enright show.
6) Last, Free Parking could use an eggcrate display.
I know that all of the game shows now use digital monitors, but the older types of scoreboards are aesthetically pleasing in their own ways, so "just won't do today"...doesn't click with me.

The Reason Brodway and Luxery Tax was was awalys picked because whe u play the game at home when do u ever land on them probly one in a blue moon that why
I like the bonus round because it fits well with the main and board game. Alot of strategy and luck is needed with placing those GO TO JAIL spaces; you need to think about likely rolls on the various blocks from various spaces and choose the least likely to land on spaces. It makes sense not to put one on the first street because it's easy to avoid them and Merv thought it would be too short to lose on the first roll. All in all, Monopoly was a smash with needed improvements. It came when I came
were the chance cards and/or community chest cards used in the bonus round? (i know they weren't this time.) but did landing on chance or community chest do anything in the bonus round?
It's probably for strategy or Merv wanted drama as opposed to a winning roll having to be three or more. It was probably strategic because they were deemed the least likely to land on by the contestants. Who knows, this bonus round was like High Rollers; alot of strategy and luck was needed.
From what I heard, during the following week, instead of airing the last episode of this following "Super Jeopardy!", they just aired a repeat of "America's Funniest Home Videos".
Finally, I saw an episode of the "Monopoly" game show where the bonus round was won. But, the win would've been better if Barry's friends and family came out of the audience to hug, scream, celebrate, you know, like bonus round wins on "Wheel of Fortune", another Merv Griffin game show.
Why didn't anyone put go to jail on park place? It's the least commonly landed on space on the board (7 spaces past jail)

@witwicsfan3 It really WAS "America's Funniest People." Why the HELL did my comment get voted down?!

I remember him saying he'd 'like to roll a 55.' O dod the research on my own Monopoly board, and he would've been in Jail.

From what I can tell, this is actually Episode #3 from June 30, 1990.
And "Monopoly" either only had 12 episodes to begin with or actually began on June 9 instead of June 16.

everything but #6 would do. Eggcrate displays just won't do today. Try digital moniter instead

It's great to see a $25,000 winner.
But it's a shame that the $50,000 bonus was never won. :-(

No. On the first roll, after landing on Chance in the bonus round, nothing happens. It's either "Safe", "Jail", or "Go" in the bonus round.
