The girl that actually shaved her head is my wife. It was more than just about money. Her mom was diagnosed with cancer and the whole family already shaved their heads to show their support. The money was a bonus and went to paying for school books that year.

@812TUBE oh wow at first-when i saw this on Spike Tv- I was really pissed off and outraged- I was like " i can't believe they convinced this poor girl 2 shave away such long and beautiful hair that would take at least 2-3 years to grow back out- for a lousy 500 bucks"... but now I understand the ulterior motive and I'm happy 2 hear that.

It's translated into Polish in a unique and awful way. Instead of dubbing the shows (and movies) or giving subtitles Poland (as the only country and on all channels even MTV Poland) uses this "lektor" - a guy who just reads the translation.
