Hey, please reply to whoever may read this. I live in the Midwest and fish VERY clear water. I use a chartreuse type spinnerbait. I'm wondering how the best way to retrieve is, I don't fish around alot of structures other than drop offs. It is very very weedy and quite shallow (often fish from 4 - 15 feet of water). So, what's the bset method of spinnerbait retrieval? I feel like I'm often times pulling in the spinnerbait a bit too quickly... please give me tips!
@iSamPk i retrieve slow. it just depends what time of day or season. i use something dark like black or red in clear water. thts what works best in my opinion
For very clear water I would gravitate towards a more natural colour. Chartruese is good for stained or muddy water. Also, in clear water burn that bait. Double willow leaf blades will help you get it up to stable speed.
hey guys, everyone who sees this come check out my channel, i have a short video on fish i have caught, videos of lyrics for old rock songs, and soon for fishing videos will be uploaded
Went a got me a spinnerbait and used his technique...in about 20 min I hook a bass in a canal then I accidently hooked a catfish in the eye with the trailer hook
Is this the guy who used to freak out and scream really loud when he made his big catches when they showed it on ESPN? Also, spinner rules, and I love to use it
@iamfisherman1 He is a tournament fisherman. He is used to gettin the fish in as fast as possible to catch the limit. Personally, i love to fight the fish. Fighting the fish is half the fun for me.
@OriginalMindTrick You are very correct. Fishing isnt just throwing out a lure and reeling in, its about enjoying everything around you and taking in everything nature has to offer. Thats why its such a relaxing thing to do. It takes away the chaos of everything. Fishing is something i will do for the rest of my life because of that.
For me it's the challenge. I love to make em bite even when they aren't in the mood. By either doing something like what is displayed in this video or droping a soft plastic right on their noses, inactive fish can be turned on and made to bite. That challenge and the drive to perfect the techniques is what keeps me out on the water.
It takes an enormous amount of effort and drive to fish professionally. Fishing your local circuit is one thing, traveling all over the country, sleeping in strange places, being outside in all kinds of weather, maintaining a good diet on the road, staying in shape. We haven't even gotten to the mental aspect of it, being away from your family, loved ones...it's so much more than most people realize.
Who knows if he's the best? There's a ton of fisherman that never fish tournaments that may be better. Just people that have done it for their whole lives you know? I will admit he's recognized as the best and for great reason, but who knows?
How do u work spinnerbaits in shallow cover like u said 6-8 feet deep but instead of stained water i have cover limbs but i have clear water i would need to know plz reply ty!!!
@that1kid70 Irritate the hell out of it. Here at lake mead, I'll shore fish a cove where you can stand at a cliff 15 feet up and watch the bass w/o them know you're there - I'll pitch a jig and soft plastic over them, and bring it in so it hits them and drags over them - they go for cover, and I keep pestering them. After about 2 minutes of irritating it, it'll get territorial and start biting, but not eating - keep going, and they just inhale the lure. Being a dick never felt better lol
when you can spend everyday on a 100,000$ custom bass boat, with the best lures and tackle for 20 years straight...
You ARE going to become one of the best bass fishermen in the world. Anyone would be this good if they fished as much as him with top of the line tackle, boats and can fish any body of water in the world.
@bytebull This is true but he didnt just start out with all of this stuff handed to him he had to work to get noticed at a young age and all of that extra stuff just helped him to improve
@mstoogood4yall Spinner bait should never get snag. If it's getting snag, it's cause your letting it drop too deep in the weed. You should be just right on top of the weed and bumping it.
@IAmJesusMonkey he's won four total. he's won the last two years, 2001 and 2005. KVD and Rick Clunn are the only anglers to ever win the classic four times, so yes, he is definitely one of the best. keep on making kalamazoo proud Kevin!
@IAmJesusMonkey I'm ranking 1.KVD 2.R.Clunn 3.R.Martin All time for Bass fishing. I'm sure people have those 3 at the top of their list but in different order.
Ha, at 0:50 when the narrator comments on the spinnerbait's looks, I was fishing with a spinnebait one time and this black guy looked at me and said, "What you fiddin' to catch on that? I've never seen those. Ain't nothin' gon' bite that." And I told him I've caught many bass on spinnerbait. I didn't happen to catch anything after he asked me that. I kept trying though, lol.
All he mentions is that its a high speed reel with 20lb XPS mono. Its a Abu Garcia reel by looking at it. But they sure dont tell you key information on how to use Spinner baits, I like Kevin and all but this is more of a Kevin video then a lesson video IMHO.
Wrong. Kevin is sponsored and has to do things to earn that money. He has the responsibility per contract to mention his sponsors. However, he gives valuable information. Just watching KVD fish should teach you plenty.
@BigDTinyE Well, I learned more from other people around in youtube than him. It looks more like a promotional video. However it does teach you some stuff...
These are fundamentals. Most bass fishermen know this already. If you cannot learn spinnerbait fishing from KVD, you cannot learn it. You have to take from it what you can, ignore the ads.. just like a magazine.
Yea I hope that moron is out of Texas any real Texan would kick his ass for a comment like that ,Im sure he,s just jealous Kevin makes millions doing what he loves and In my opinion he is the best there is in bass fishing ,and I wonder why he is watching this vid anyway?
Just having the knowledge of the animal's behavior down to a science is impressive. It's not like any ol' bloke can throw a line in and catch a 7lb bass or go out and get a 10 point buck. It takes time and skill. Just like anything else in life. What makes a profession NFL player a pro? Time and skill. Pro fisherman and Pro football players get paid for the same reason. They're good at what they do, so good that they'll get paid for it.
what in the fuck is a "pro" bass fisherman? come on people these guys are'nt fucking pro's. animals are only reacting to their natural instinct. people who call them selfs "pros" when it comes to hunting big game, birds, fish and any other "animal" are not pros. animals have no fucking clue you're trying to capture or kill them. what a waste of television time and human consumption of bullshit.
@str8outtatexas1 Ok dude... i agree somewhat with what you say. Hunting animals such as deer, elk etc. i dont see someone being pro. But fishing is a different story, im a long time fisherman and i do it almost everyday. I dont see you out on the water catching 6 bass plus, a day. Not everyone can get out on the water and catch bass like the pros. Theres a big difference in hunting and fishing. Fishing is a bit more challenging than standing in a deer stand with a gun or bow.
Clearly, you've never gone bass fishing, or any fishing at all, or you would have never made such a false, egregious, ignorant comment. Animals are not as dumb and mindless as you propose. Conversely, people are not as smart and intelligent as you propose, as evidenced by your comment LOL.
@str8outtatexas1 you drag race a car? how bout pros in drag racing. you guys step on a gas pedal and cross a line faster than some other guy? how do ppl go pro there? more to it than meets the eye right? same with fishing man
@lespaulguitarist92 -are you serious? if he caught 30 fish and i caught 18 what does that mean? he's a better fisherman?how many fish do you have to catch to be considered a PRO? their animals! their not on the same food chain as human being.they only react to natural instincts(food).when you think of PRO'S,you think of football, baseball, basketball, boxing, track & field,ect...,not fishermen. it's just another souped up,over hyped hobby for guys with NO true athletic ability in any true SPORT.
@str8outtatexas1 its a little harder than that bud anyone can catch fish yes just like anyone can play baseball, but it takes a PRO to be able to fish any conditions and consistantly be catching fish, you have to know weather pattern, feeding patterns, speed of your retrieve, what bait to use, what color, ect. ect. ect. its just like regular sports anyone can do it but it takes someone who knows the sport inside and out to perform at a professional level.
@str8outtatexas1 natural instincts does play a part in fishing but just because you drop a bait in front of a fish doesn't mean that they will swallow it. There are many factors involve, which are: location, weather, water depth, visibility, bait color, type, and sizes. Fisherman who are good at passing these factors are considered pros. a little luck does play a role in fishing but so does it in all sports. Now being physical, it will depends on the type of fish your going for.
@str8outtatexas1 Deep sea fishing does take hours to be able to land a huge fish(sharks, marlins etc. ) and absorb alot of your strength; furthermore, as with most fish over an inch, it does take skill to be able to reel it in without it breaking the line. The heavier and bigger the fish, the more skill it takes to land it. If you were to make a mistake then the fish will get away just like if you were to call a bad play in a football game.
Everything KVD tells you about bass fishing is always Great Advice ! Notice how the bait is moving exactly when it hits the water, He does it & I learned it years ago. It's the most common mistake anglers make when using spinnerbaits.
@madakopee its tough to use spinners in thick vegetation, if you want to still try dont get frustrated, but try it how you would with a crank or red eye shad in heavy veg. Pull it into the brush and then rip it through it. remove what moss you have on the lure and try again. The sporadic action of the lure will most always cause fish to strike. Also make sure you have heavy line, I would recommened at least bass pro xps 20 lbs test for fishing heavy veg
@randomvidsbykevin fishing a chartruese or yellow spinner bait in murky water has a better visibility than white or other colors. Also try using copper willow blades for more of a flash in the murky water. Hope that helps.
I like a spinerbait with chartruise because it looks like a bluegill and land 4 2 pound bass within 3 hours and lost a monster at least 14lbs lovvvveeee spinnerbaits
i always see pros having to rare back and set the hook .. how come i never have to do that ??? the fish always set up just from the strike ... maybe it has to do with how i retreive the lure
@tmakidd0703 so have i until i started throwing them into weeds, theres too many baitfish in the river i fish for fish to chase anything so the pike just slam it if it comes near them
You can add weight to a small spinnerbait ti get it down really deep and keep it there when retrieving. Just add a crimp-on weight in front of the jig head, or wind some wire around the hook base.
Yeah im good now since the middle of may ive finally been able to score some bass ... ive been using a small crappie spinner with a jig attatched mean bass tear those lil things UP
Can someone please help me .. ive been fishing since the start of april i dont have a boat ive just been bank fishing .. dont have a truck so i cant acsess my good spots .. juss been goin to local boat launch peirs ... havent got a single bite for 2 months .. what am i doin wrong ? are the areas im fishin just to populated with people
@iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa the thing is what u are saying right now is kinda vague. u have to pay attention to the forge, color of water, what u are casting at and water temp
I've developed a few techniques making different size circles, arcs, nods and shakes with my rod tip that I'm gonna make a video about soon...I've been taking out bass left and right with a strike king bleeder and these techniques lately...
Weights are optional on any lure and any type of rigging, depends on how deep you want it without messing up the presentation. Of course though, you wouldn't need it for a deep diving crankie. Generally, when the water is a bit cooler, bass don't lie that deep. When water begins to heat up and after the spawn, bass go deeper.
just a question can i use spinner bait in surf fishing? is it possible even though it is designed for freshwater application? thanks for any recommendations.
anyone know what kind of trailer hook kvd shows here? ive been trying to find some but bass pro and cabelas only carry sizes 1/0 and larger. The one kvd shows here looks a lot smaller then that. any advice on trailer hooks you guys use or where i can get ones similar to the one shown here is greatly appreciated

If you were to make a mistake then the fish will get away just like if you were to call a bad play in a football game.

what spinnerbait is he using?
almightyvoss 1 year ago
Everything KVD tells you about bass fishing is always Great Advice ! Notice how the bait is moving exactly when it hits the water, He does it & I learned it years ago. It's the most common mistake anglers make when using spinnerbaits.

Spinnerbait bites are going off right now. I am going to implement some of these tips and see if they increase my numbers.

I caught a 20 inch bass a month ago on a spinner when nothing else was working. That's about as big as they get in Minnesota.

how would you use a spinner bait in heavy vegetaion lakes?
madakopee 1 year ago
@madakopee its tough to use spinners in thick vegetation, if you want to still try dont get frustrated, but try it how you would with a crank or red eye shad in heavy veg. Pull it into the brush and then rip it through it. remove what moss you have on the lure and try again. The sporadic action of the lure will most always cause fish to strike. Also make sure you have heavy line, I would recommened at least bass pro xps 20 lbs test for fishing heavy veg

chevynatoor 1 year ago
@chevynatoor I like green with gold blades for dirty water
iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa 1 year ago
@randomvidsbykevin fishing a chartruese or yellow spinner bait in murky water has a better visibility than white or other colors. Also try using copper willow blades for more of a flash in the murky water. Hope that helps.

i always see pros having to rare back and set the hook .. how come i never have to do that ??? the fish always set up just from the strike ... maybe it has to do with how i retreive the lure

@tmakidd0703 i never used any lures before i started using spinnerbaits and i catch a ton of pike off of them
randomclam8ownz 1 year ago
@randomclam8ownz ya i just dont like spiiners i hav always failed on them
tmakidd0703 1 year ago
@tmakidd0703 so have i until i started throwing them into weeds, theres too many baitfish in the river i fish for fish to chase anything so the pike just slam it if it comes near them
randomclam8ownz 1 year ago
@randomclam8ownz sweet i will try throwing them into weeds some more but i just seemed to nvr catch anything on them. thnks for the tip.
but i have caught almost all my fish on soft plastics even pike and musky
you just have to use a bigg enough soft plastic lure
tmakidd0703 1 year ago
You can add weight to a small spinnerbait ti get it down really deep and keep it there when retrieving. Just add a crimp-on weight in front of the jig head, or wind some wire around the hook base.
jobu88 1 year ago
i have that same spinerbait its a strikeking bleeding bait spinnerbait

iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa 1 year ago
@iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa the thing is what u are saying right now is kinda vague. u have to pay attention to the forge, color of water, what u are casting at and water temp
deleonpond194 1 year ago
@deleonpond194 How the hell is that being " vague " ?????
iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa 1 year ago
I've developed a few techniques making different size circles, arcs, nods and shakes with my rod tip that I'm gonna make a video about soon...I've been taking out bass left and right with a strike king bleeder and these techniques lately...

breaking news: kvd has been arrested. he was allegedly found drunk in his barn passed out naked with a 3lb largemouth stuck on his ballsack.
muskie1976 1 year ago
Weights are optional on any lure and any type of rigging, depends on how deep you want it without messing up the presentation. Of course though, you wouldn't need it for a deep diving crankie. Generally, when the water is a bit cooler, bass don't lie that deep. When water begins to heat up and after the spawn, bass go deeper.
