They reset the clock to what it was at when the person goes out of bounds or when it needs to be stopped anyways. Its because the brodcast is linked to the clock. It lags as it is. Its the same in any sport, which say basketball where they have a buzzer go off, you will notice it goes off before the clock on the screen runs out. In this case it just lagged up big time, and then caught up to its self. This whole issue is an excuse the pats fans used to hide that they got beat.

Unless it's an extremely boring 42-3 blowout or something, someone will always put the blame on the refs on a close game decided by two scores or less.
