Maybe not the best, but cerainly the best to watch. Lara's strokeplay was always sensational, the 277 he made against Australia in the early 90's is perhaps the best innings ive seen by anyone, ever. He had a knack for making gigantic scores often in unlikely or difficult situations, to score 501 in a first class inning is almost unfathomable. Hats off my friend, that is incredible.

I just hate the argument about Sachin having more pressure and "hope for millions" like is he's playing for their lives are something. The real presure is on the field against world class players and both performed. Lara was heavily scrutinized and Sachin was worshipped so if you want to go on (mental pressure) Lara had alot more. Also added pressure is knowing if you lose your wicket most likely the team will lose.

Sure he has some holes in his record but who cares, all the great entertainers have a flaw in their record. I followed Lara during his remarkable run when he started with his 375, added another 4 consecutive centuries, culminating in this 501. Add to that his 400* - Lara never got bogged down like Tendulkar does too often. Lara protected his wicket when the occasion demanded (as against Australia) but in his top 3 scores, he never slowed down even when he was approaching the respective world records - seemed like a 1 day game. No way would Tendulkar come anywhere close to Lara's genius

Lara was a finisher.
