  • American hugged yumi both cried at same time and american said Yumi put me to sleep with sleep gun really need some more sleep haven't slept for 1 month

  • @MultiRipper88 how about writing that his art is a scam, interns get paid 10.00$ an hour to entirely, stretch canvas, mix the paint, paint all of his art, then a mark-up of 50,000$ -100,000$ (after he signs it) its just paint by # people

this level of art is just a scam, open your eyes. stop supporting this crap, where does the money go? Try Murakami's real-estates in japan

  • of COURSE they use a Pizzicato Five song!

  • He also made inochi, the alien boy from Hiroshima.....

  • I was intrigued until i saw a spiky haired guy playing with his own spunk...

  • 2:41 My Lonesome Cowboy lol

  • He's a little screwed up in the head.

  • ......2:40 somebody explain that?

  • Looking at his artwork makes me trippy.. I like itt

  • I just saw Murakami's summer solstice Google Doodle. OH MY GOD.

  • why are there always people discussing in murakami's videos?

  • Graduation

  • Murakami is almost cuter than his art!

  • GEEZUS!!!

    1.3 million dollars?? God damn.....

  • lol giant flower

  • 2:39.... Im going to fap to that later.

  • he's works are very edgy.

  • Can't understand why they didnt do the interview with murakami simply translating what he said... Couldnt see his through his point of view due his poor english, but thats alright.

  • lol oh dammit i actually did miss the like button this time!

  • to see some dope hip hop sculpture watch KIDNCLAYTV on youtube! KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.KIDNCLAYTV.

  • translation: people are afraid to grow up and face real life and death , this is idealisation, running to another world , just a signal of decadence because we do not now how to deal with the change of todays world. Becoming efeminate and childish is the dying breath of a civilization. ps: prepare for war...

  • @lcabosa that is what i think just a little less deep

  • @lcabosa Yea that's incorrect.

  • 0:54カイ カ カイ!wwww カイカイキキだお・・・・

  • I'm Japanese. Murakami is not an artist. Sensible people in Japan are divided into sub-culture and the arts. Sub-culture work, there is less value. In Japan Sharaku and Hokusai, the works of Taro Okamoto "art" is called.

  • @yayunfu art/ ärt/ Noun - 1. The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

How is he not an artist if this is exactly what he is doing? It may not live up to your standards but it is art none the less. It is created and inspires creations. What you said was just ignorant. "Sensible people" dont discriminate.

  • I've been trying to find stuff on Goichi Miyoshi, mentioned at 5:01, but I can't really find anything on google. Does any one know the link to his website?

  • 2:39

What the... is that boy holding his dick and...ejaculating...? 0_o

  • 5:10 Hiroyuki Matsuura~!!! Go check this artist out... he's amazing with acrylic. All completely original characters. Very glad he is featured, must be because of Superflat

  • it seems that he is just good at marketing vibe of japanese anime to westerners who really don't know it yet.

  • @kirkwood1991 Are you retarded? Do you actually understand the profound impact his artwork has had on everything; the actual art, not the marketing. Maybe if you were intelligence you'd have realised he's combined the two (marketing and art) into one pragmatic formulation of what can only be described as: genius.

  • @HideoFTW1 YOU NO IT!!

  • @HideoFTW1 you ARE retarded

  • @kirkwood1991 Funny that coming from you when you give a completely hypocritical statement towards my reply - honestly, the further imply my point in a exuberant manner - you're mentally inept you dumb fuck :)

  • I love his art. So genius! And he looks like the famous JAY CONTRERAS of Kamikaze rock band.

  • Wow Jonathan Ross isn't making a total twat of himself for once! XD XD

  • what is the music in the background?

  • @ichinensei2 the first song is by pizicatto five

the second is by fantastic plastic machine (maybe plastic fantastic.. )

and the last one is also pizicatto five

  • In May 2008 his " My Lonesome Cowboy" sculpture, sold for a record $15.02 million at a Sotheby's auction.

  • his artwork is awesome but i wouldnt give any of his toys to children for various, obvious reasons lol

  • I strongly dislike Murakami. Hopefully I like him by the end of this video.

  • @WiggaTriggaTV hes cool- dont know about the toys tho bit childish

  • I love his art! thank you and 5*

  • Murakami san konichiwa,hajimemashite.Arigatoo gozaimashita,ja mata ne..

  • 2:40 turns me on!

  • murakamis great.. he seems very kind and open about his art. you know those video tours and explanations of his exibition ? not all artist would take time to do something like that

  • Louis Vuitton is the shit!!! Nice video.

  • 2:40 wtf?

  • @PandaHorror Was that what i think it was!? lol XD

  • TAKASHI!

  • very interestingly

  • I love Murakami work I just order on of his teddy bears

  • Haha soo funny there's a Jboog on here what a loser biting my name. Very cool stuff. His sense of texture and painting is amazingly clean. Jerking off statues haha.

  • Actually the Lonesome Cowboy statue at 2:40 did not sell at 15 million dollars.

It sold for $15,161,000 million dollars at the Sotheby's auction.

I would definitely jack off for 15 million. hehe.

  • still interesting

  • yes

  • Murakami is totally awesome!!!

  • he's not really my favorite artist...

  • 2:40 WTF! lol now he knows thats too big, I guess not for art. I bet he ain't that big. lol

  • 1.3 mil...get the fuck out

  • get the fuck out you say? dude! do you see that painting!? that is totally worth 1.3 million! I would like to see any artist do that, its one of a kind literally.

  • my lonesome cowboy, that is so funny

    , hot?

  • i'm studying Murakami for my A Level art, so this is muchest useful!!

  • I am studying him for my GCSE's art. :/ Just started, i am totally blank.

  • Doing it for my Discourse Critical for Uni

  • financial success and artistic success are very different. To feeble minded folks, Murakkostabi seems a clever person.

  • 1.3 million dollars he says.... RIDICULOUS

  • I know... He must be pretty well off, if that's true.

  • if u think that's tough on a wallet, check the prices 4 a jeff koons.

  • hunkusarakohunu takshikoru mahagatsu .hi hi hi im a slave of my own assistants..!!!

    yeah

  • What's that song please?

  • My inspiration!

  • It is not "pop art". But an art movement indigenous to Japan.

In the US, Gore Vidal has said something like advertising is the only true modern art we have today. ? something along those lines.

    As for Manga/Anime/comics/cartoons.

I am glad more people in the US have become more accepting of these mediums. Back in the early/mid 90s I had thought how closed minded the US was for totally dismissing them as only kids stuff.

Adults have been the largest buyers of comic books in US anyway.

  • he's such a paradox. idk if he's criticizing or promoting consumerism.

  • His motives and concepts are much more complicated than how they might outwardly appear from a shallow glance.

  • In a way its both.

    Its critazises but also exploits.

    x

  • I've seen pics of the louis v colab, and that was pretty fucking schweet.

  • The original statue at

    2:40

Sold for 15 MILLION dollars at an art auction- most people only thought it would sell for a max of 4 million dollars. The person who bought the sculpture bought it by phone- you wouldn't really want to buy that sorta thing in person! :P

  • Well I guess that cowboy ain't lonesome anymore.

  • No, that honour would go to Naoko Takeuchi.

  • See his exhibit at Brooklyn Musuem of Art.

I did today and loved it!!!

  • XD at 2:43

  • love Takashi and of course Marc Jacobs

  • mmm i like the lonesome cowboy art hehe

  • part of my curriculem in art is to study the lonesome cowboy (i'm not joking it's compulsory) and also there's a girl who has milk coming out of her boobs

  • japanese art is amazing!

  • wherw was this interviewed?

  • his art is amazing.

  • Japan, the secret, maybe is amazing because isn't western, but very posmodern

  • True, actually I think on a few levels japan is a decade or so ahead of us when it comes to post-modern developments. Most western artists just try too hard in my opinion.

  • i loved his exhibit. he's an amazingly talented genius.

  • The music is by Pizzicato Five.

  • Sounds pretty cool, what´s the name of the song?

  • There are three songs:

    1. Baby Portable Player Sound (Pizzicato Five)

    2. Different Colours (Fantastic Plastic Machine)

    3. Tokyo Mon Amour (Pizzicato Five)

  • Nigo got nothing on this guy!

What´s the name of the song in the background?

  • yes yes problemmmm:D:D:D:D takashi mamus

  • you know, its success and inluence that defines if it's good or not. it may not be art or as great as Warhol's, as friendsofthefruitof is implying, but damn, if they got you to design some of Louis Vuitton products, that's a great achievement. and none of us guys would have the balls to say otherwise, unless you're way than better him, and hey, you really can't argue against success.

  • popularity and quality are not the same thing. frequently they are in opposition. Was it Woody Allen who pointed out that there is an equal and opposite correlation between popularity and quality. Would you argue that Whitney Houston or mariah carey are great by thier sucess or just salable?

  • QUESTION???????????

could an american artist have the same success in japan with american icons as takashi has in usa with japanese art?

  • Yes. Some things like Snoopy and Winnie the Pooh are very big in Japan.

  • yes there are many, but most americans do not pretend to be the voice of America like murakostabi tries so hard. He is basically irrelevant here in Tokyo because you cant peddle his nonsense to the locals. It is a dangerous neo-orientalism that posits Japanese dont have any ideas and we are only the best under the circumstances. try reading his essay critically.

  • WARHOL and murakostabi is pretty well despised here in Tokyo.

  • Same with us Canadians, if you'd think about it. We don't like Celine, Shania, or Nickelback once they hit the mainstream in the US.

But we should appreciate their successes, all the same. Some artists can utilize it to further inspire their art. You might just never know.

(Oh, and please refrain yourself from being offended by artists going into commercial ventures. They have to make money - after all, by promoting their art, they are also promoting anime art style into the mainstream)

  • hah i just noticed murakami is wearing a barry mcgee shirt

  • damm people show some respect for japans biggest artist, i guess usa's do not know crap about art.

  • he is just a japanese Mark Kostabi, read his how to baffle the buyers diatribe. check his facts and foot notes, notice those he gloms onto are dead so they cant rebuff this charlitan.

  • This is the guy who's suppose to run Kanye West's jewelry line.

  • murakami only sketches ideas, he doesnt paint the pictures or make the sculptures, he creates the ideas.

His artwork is good but i think the workers diserve a lot of credability aswell.

  • doesnt even so that much!

  • This type of thing was interesting to me. If memory serves, the work produced seems to almost embrace, if not mirror the corporate model. Which to me seemed pretty disgusting being that it is these artificial law created entities which have come to control our world (and governments, including 'democracies') and thus lives. But, maybe by reading more of Murakami's essays? I came to see hierarchy that is in Japanese culture. So,indigenous?

I am not commenting on all aspects of works. discussion ?

  • this is too good I love all the works in here and this guy has it I love manga

  • The title of T. Murakami's symposium, held at Yale was called "Little Boy" -derived from the A-bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. The talk examined ideas from TM's superflat theory e.g. 2-D origins of Japanese pop art coming from the aftermath of LittleBoy and high-low art having no distinctions in Japan, but it also suggests that Japanese pop art didn't come from the West. Give the little boy back his ball, you big bully.

  • Murakostabi has no ideas read his writing it is the same platform as MArk Kostabi. Murakostabi is a fool and i sat in on the Yale lecture and watched his sorry ass squirm by the questions posed. He sets himself up as a Japanese Warhol, but only gloms on to the dead who cannot say get out of me. at best he achieves 1% of Warhols greatness. he is a fool and at best a little worse than kieth haring!

  • Everyone knows Murakami is a businessman and an artist. For those who have actually meet him, he's totally on the ball. Anyway, good programming and presenting by Ross and his team, don't you think?

  • he dropped that ball when he spoke at yale and they asked him questions, so he excused his "poor" english skills, but The Japanese Theory Department, swithched to his native language, and he fell apart. It was beautiful. THen at the JApan society they ended calling him little boy! great times

  • Disrespect for youth?

Perhaps this is one hierarchy we can superflat?

  • Murakostabi Murakami+Mark Kostabi is a fraud! the Japanese reject him and his weenie mentality. Read superflat and notice his gaping holes in logic and connection. Where are the footnotes? Why does he link himself to dead people only who cannot refute his "linking"? Think about it.

  • I went to see some of murakami's work in a museum once, cool stuff, I like to have the plush flowers but so expensive :p

  • This guy is fuckin expensive 1.3 millions dollars?

  • lol jonothan ross wearin bapes

  • Nice video, but his works are not worth the prices people pay for them.

  • I somewhat agree but at the sametime, art is worth what people pay for it.

  • not so. watch the prices fall and some never recover. see people shedding murakostabi from thier collections.

  • 2:40, sooo hot!

  • If true Otaku

It is found that this is the merde

  • I DAMOS would make man love to this guy...

  • Awesome. Jonathan Ross is well good lol. :P

The Artist rocks also, time to visit Japan.

  • thank u soooo much!!!
