Another easy way to do the MAC on Legendary is you can hide on the stairs until Keyes tells you to take the shot. The Phantoms and Banshees won't see you and in turn won't shoot at you. Thats how I did it on my Legendary playthrough( I was in no mood to get owned during the MAC section after taking about 30 tries to get past the Elite Zealots and the Field Marshal, so when l found out you can hide it was a relief.)

this is the only part on all the halo's i've EVER had to view a walkthrough of.....i waxed off every other campaign on legendary and have my black belt in wrecking elites but the mac cannon part is rediculous......the key is not letting banshees get close. its due to this video that i got past it

Now you just need to make a walkthrough on getting past the elites to get to the cannon. Those things are the REAL pain in the asses on legendary, especially if there are practically no damaging weapons nearby to use.

@MTStingray Yes...they are tough. One thing, though, is that if you kill one, you can sprint by the last one and it will not follow you up to the MAC Gun.

@MTStingray and another tip, make sure to take out that floaty thing up high in the middle of that room with the Elites. Their shields are powered by it, so if you take that out, they lose they extra "purple" shield. They still have normal shielding, but some head shots with the Battle Rifle will do the job.

There's an easier way to do this. After taking a few hits, jump out of the mac gun and hide behind it. Stay there until Keyes tells you to shoot the corvette. Then simply jump back in and shoot the big ship directly.

Lucky I saw this. The first time I did this I tried my own way, and succeeded with 0 health bars left (for a monument to all your sins). Then in Co-op campaign, my teammates left and I was left alone. I tried your way, and had tons more health and a full charged shield! :)

I'd sure like to have a MAC gun on my roof. Not the stationary, but the orbital defence platform one. 3000 ton projectile at 12,000km/s.

But dude, the part before previous cutscene... I died like 7x.... on normal! It would have been because it took me a while to find the right strategy - but how did you ever get past it on Legendary?!

@DrsJacksonn It was very difficult for me also, and only on Heroic (just finished all but the MAC gun part on Legendary solo! :D). You have to get a DMR or a Neddle Rifle, and a Plasma Pistol. Overcharge the Plasma Pistol, take out the Elite's shields, and one shot to the head is all it takes.

Hey, thanks a lot. This is literally right before the end, and I was having major problems with this. I was just going for anyone who seemed to be the closest or most prominent threat.

Like others said, take out those initial Banshees right when they show up, and then any others when you don't have a Phantom on top of you. Makes it super easy.

There is an easier way to do it, if you go near the gun, all of the ships will start to come in and the carrier will start moving closer and will fire, when it starts firing you will be prompted to shoot it. When you hear this jump in the mac gun (before now you have just been waiting under the safety of a roof) and shoot it, you don't even have to kill anything just shoot the carrier
