I remember as a little girl in the 80s I was always trying to spin my cap guns and even water pistols like Sammy. (I'm the youngest of 4 & the only girl so I was a bit of a tomboy.) Sammy was always my favorite member of the Rat Pack.

He is NOT singing ,he is doing pantomime, as he mentions at the start of the act. Sammy was one of the best, and he wanted to show off his ability to do pantomime, which is the art of mimicking. I would not be surprised if Sammy could actually do Robert Preston, but he is showing respect to the man by using the original soundtrack.

The bit with Jack Benny is very similar to one he did with Dennis Day when Dennis complained he hadn't been a guest all season on his show and then admitted he hadn't watched any of the shows that year.

But Jack says he still considers Dennis a rising talent while his own star is diminishing.

He sounds like him because he;'s miming to his voice! The talent he was showing was mime/lip synching, not impersonations. For his impressions see the other video.

Really? Listen closely, now. I don't know if he's singing live--although the changes in the voice's volume and range when he dances are noticeable--but he's definitely not singing "to" Preston's Music Man track. This is either Sammy singing live or singing (or panthomiming, if you will) to his own pre-recorded track).
