He played a lot of games under Doug Moe, who was all offense. Many games where the Nuggets played ZERO, and I mean ZERO, defense. Teams that had no defensive players at all besides TR Dunn. He was a great scorer, but that inflated his PPG avgs a bit. Fat Lever also benefited from the high pace in his REB and ASST stats.
@MPHswayze -His last name is English and he was an English major. True story. That's why that was funny. (You may need to translate this comment so that the others who visit this post will understand.)
I met Mr English in September 1994 in Chicago at an NBA event! He was kind enough to be photographed with me and I recall him being a very down to earth kinda dude! I'd forgotten until recently that he'a in my encounters with the famous group. I didn't know about his outstanding accomplishments. I hope he retired healthy and continues to be successful!
I love English, but I did NOT know that he could dunk! When I see footage of certain players dunk, I jump up and say, "I did NOT know that he could do that!" List: Alex English, Bill Laimbeer, Marc Acres, Jack Sikma, Blair Rasmussen, Fred Roberts, Nick Van Exel, John Crotty.
Easily the most underrated player of all time, IMO. He's not only the leading scorer in Nugget's history, he scored THE most points in the 80s, the greatest decade for basketball in history.
@AxonMoses the same way carmelo or paul pierce are!english was a good rebounder,he play until 38 years old and avr 5.5 reb, there were seasons he avr 8reb p/g.he also was ok passer,he avr 3.6as and had about 5asists p/g in 6-7 seasons!he was n't good defender but there are many great scorers who are n't.he also had 50.7fg%,great for a perimeter player.
@scoutsouljademoman You're referring to the NBL or the ABL. They were the forerunners of the present day NBA. The NBA existence starts just after World War II. Joe Lapchick & the New York (Original) Celtics, ring a bell?
Alex English was a tremendous scorer. I copied his jumper and mastered it in high school. Why? He shot so high, the ball came out soft, -- either he swished it, or it bounced off easily for rebounds. Loved his game. A true legend.
i live right by this guy lol

Believe it or not,his first and native language that he speaks is Spanish.
He does NOT speak English, or VERY little at best. Fact.
I liked that particular Nuggets uniform. Reminds me of the good old days of Dikembe Mutombo.

@paranoid711 actually the 1920s-1930s was the greatest nba era.

If you look at his stats, English was scoring high well into his mid 30s... no flashy moves but reliable and effective!

He was a triple double machine.
Chefkoch523 2 years ago
he wasn't a triple-double guy at all. The Celtics had him in their possession but let him get away.

Loved to watch him.
He would drop that high arching bomb out the sky. But he could also shoot it quickly, off balance, before the defender was ready.
