the z4mqp is not lighter. it weight 100 kg more. CSL1380kg, Z4mqp 1485Kg. the csl got 27hp more and the airbox wich give more power as faster you will drive. SMG etc. it was a great race from the Z4mqp. it weights more, got less hp no smg. The Z4 MQP the ultimate drivingmachine. put the same tires on the mqp, an airbox and less weights, the mqp drives circles around the csl
csl was a rip off price wise, 20k more than standard m3. You could pay 500 and have your standard m3 chipped to 370 Horsepower no problem. One car mag test showed just this and infact the standard m3 was just as good, if not better low down in the rev range.
I know its not, but CAR magazine did a test on two m3 e46's with uprated ecu flash against an m3csl round a track. The test was done to prove why pay the extra 25k for the csl when the standard m3 can be had for the same bhp. And kid, its not about money either but sensiblity.

My friends csl couldnt pull away from me. I am simply saying id have sooner spent 62k on a porsche. Afterall the the m3 is stilla family car

The csl's still has the same displacement but did have different cam's, reduced friction internals and of course different air filter/manifold. I think it had a superior engine management system aswell.
So pretty much exactly the same engine with some tweaks.
You are correct. The basic engine is the same, but the airbox and cams on the M3 CSL are different. You are getting some negative comments, but those who know--know you are correct.
I have a standard M3 2006 and a z4M coupe. The Z4M is a much faster car. It has the engine (as stated above) of the M3 CSL with decreased weight. At low revs the Z4 has more torque by far than the M3 (standard non CSL). Now I cannot speak about a CSL since I have never driven one nor raced against one.
Keep the Z4M coupe vids coming since there are not many.
i have posted some footage of me in my csl following my mate in his Z4M on the ring and there's nothing between them on the straight. Both are chipped and run around 370bhp. We spent the whole way down on the autobahn and again nothing between them.
Sorry, you are wrong. The CSL has 288 duration cams, different rocker arms, and an Alpha n intake.
The S54 on the Z4M makes up on power through the Siemens DME that is also used in the current M5 and M6. It is better able to adjust A/F ratios than the old DME used on the E46 M3 and M3 CSL.

well..the start was a roll with RS4 at 2k rpm...bad for a low tq car...no way the RS4 was redlining it...I know that engine all too well, and am just learning the new M..got em both..

The Z4M uses the 343ps version of the 3.2 straight six, i.e. the "normal" 3.2, while the CSL has an improved 3.2 with 17ps more, 5Nm more.
The SMG gearbox make the rest.

My neighbor owns a Z4 M coupe. I knew that they were pretty fast but holy shit. He was keeping up with the M3 CSL for a while there.
