  • PLEASE OPEN UP IN HAWAII PLEASE!!

  • I laughed when he recited the names after pulling rubber guard. KUNG FU

  • this technique seems like that "around the world" omoplata..

  • couldnt u set up gogoplata from mount when u roll him over and just sit on his chest? since your leg is by his face when u roll?

  • Any gyms in Georgia?

  • Very nice submission! If it fails, you can switch to an armbar! Thanks S101!

  • any 10th planet schools in arizona

  • this looks almost like a shoulder version of the heel hook

  • Well I dislike the tenth planet names (probably heard a lot) but I do love the move. I've been in that little perdicament too many times......I'll try it out in practice tomorrow.

  • This probably hurts like he'll!!! I wish I could try it

  • Omoplata, gogoplata, monoplata... damm how many platas are there?

  • Man really jui jitsu is wayyy to much to remember, suppose if your a pro though your doing it your whole life nothing else .

  • nice nice

  • Couldn't this be just a set up for an armbar too?

  • could you set this up from spiderweb?

  • my jitsu coach said thats not good idea for mma not one sub by way of plata in any mma fight

  • any gyms near philly???

  • It starts to look like an omplata with from there would be easier in my opinion then spinning more, and if there flexible you can do a choke from the omplata.

  • We need a 10th Planet in Atlantic Canada!!!

  • any gyms in north carolina?

  • This can also be used from the armbar position.

  • Can you work this on a failed armbar or triangle choke when he keeps your leg on the ground?

  • Is there any 10th planet schools on the East Coast, preferably Virginia lol? I know about Lloyd Irvin's Academy but that's about 4 hours away. Kore Kombat teaches some Marcelo Garcia stuff I know that, but idk if they practice any Eddie Bravo techniques.

  • You end up in the same submission positioning as around the world. sweet! and actually you just said that around 2:30 as i was typing this lol

  • your located on vancouver island?

  • @gdoh Yep...Victoria

  • Looks good when the defensive guy isnt resiesting but what about that free arm?

  • are the gogoplata, omoplata and monoplata related to each other or something?

  • @josh1212121 Yeah, mono is the stepfather of omo who is married to gogo.

  • @josh1212121 Gogoplata is a chocke, omoplata is like an americana using the polyfilafosa part of the leg, and mono is like an inverted armbar/omoplata

  • Thats a great move, ARI IS THE MAN

  • any gyms in California?

  • There are several 10th Planet schools in Cali! look at the 10th Planet main site. LA, Burbank, San Fran...

  • Bravo should paint a painting and call it the Lisa Monoplata

  • I heart Monoplata.

  • i can hardly ever getin this position..what i tend to do is actually finish off with an armbar...

  • @murdnun Yeah man thats what happens to me I think it has to do with the angle that you roll at. (usually the armbar gets the tap though)

  • Are any of your gyms in philadelphia?

  • could you also turn this into an armbar since you have both legs already across him with his arm between them?

  • not if you control the hips as u can see

  • not to hate but

cant he roll out of it when hes in the jiu claw??

  • he can, but he takes a big risk of having his arm trapped and giving him side control

  • Either that, or you can just jump the monoplata and probably redirect his roll. Either way, once you get the jiu claw, it looks like an armbar/omoplata/monoplata any way you cut it.

  • No, cuz he has control of his lower body (leg or waist/hips) .... I thought the same thing before I started doin this stuff....

  • o damn! that is nice!

  • yep...correct....really, its just a name (Marcelo Garcia came up with the name 'monoplata' because of the one leg that is trapped.

  • it is not called monoplata but OMAPLATA or omoplata. in greek 'omos' is the shoulder and 'plati' means the back. so 'omoplata' means shoulder blade or scapula. that's why this move is called like that since it is locking this part of the body.

  • What exactly is the arm crush?

  • THe bicep is made up of 2 muscles together hence the bi part. Armcrush aka bicep slicer pull them apart and does significant dmg to your arm either tapping or injuring someone. Its illegal in most tournaments, but its a really good option when u get the chance. I don't think its a arm crush though, espcially since he said he's attacking the shoulder joint.

  • I know the names are supposed to be confusing so you can yell them out in a competition and not allow the opponent to know what's going on.

But those are some WEIRD names,I have better time memorizing the Japanese names then the english ones. And English is my first language!

  • you guys are the best!! i love it ! and i fuckin' hate it because i live in Ohio.

and that's no where near you guys.

so i don't train anymore because aside from a few outrageously priced Gracie schools, it's all bullshit.

  • i know what you mean i live in Ohio to

  • gogoplata where you grab their wrist and push under your "choke" foot with your other foot.

  • Monoplata is my instructor"s fav submission.

  • Rubber guard FTW!!!!!

  • Yep!

  • Just hit the Carni.

  • Normally, we would but in this situation, the leg is being pinned and not in the half butterfly (over the guys leg) which the carni requires. Look closely and you'll see the difference.

  • Favorited!

  • Very nice!

    5 shuriken stars!

  • YOu guys are the best. Dont know what i would do without ya. lol

It be cool if you guys did more theory on how to get out of bad situations from bottom. I only roll with older heavier guys and i usually get stuck and overwhelmed by the wieght. lol

  • Back in my wrestling days I got really good at switching as soon as they took me down.

  • get the book get the dvd start playing halfguard with a lockdown and whipping up. everybody I roll with outweighs me.

  • cool

    keep it up guys!

  • Pick up Mastering the Rubber Guard by Eddie Bravo. The names are just to reference each stage of the techniques. Rather than saying hugging the knee, Pulling the foot in front of the face, half way point to getting the arm trapped, Eddie decided to give these positions names which thus makes it easier to remember. As for the names themselves...sometimes there is no rhyme or reason for them ;-)

  • "wierd" names are given to be easily memorize because there are many positions that are very similar to each other so I think that is the reason it came out! ^_^

  • Ah, mnemonic memory devices. Works for me.

  • You read my mind. I was like "WTF, I've never heard that!" It DOES make them easier to remember, but coming from a gracie school it takes a little getting used to.

  • Sweet.

  • you showed this on your Omoplata on side control vid, right?

  • Yes we did.

  • Great, becaue I am a fan of the Submissions 101 team! More power! :D

  • Just wondering, who comes up with the names of the moves?

  • Not sure who cam up with monoplata but Marcelo Garcia uses this term and it has spread to others in the grappling community.

  • Great stuff man

  • not a big fan of the monoplata but it looks sick if u can pull it off

  • that is the great thing about grappling. We play to our strengths and use what is useful to us. I NEVER try and push moves on my students or others. We all have "a way" and go from there.

  • Love it.

  • THATS CRAZY!

  • good move Ari.

  • GAH WAYY TO HARD

  • Loved that. I like anything that empowers the guy pulling guard. Thanks.

  • THAT IS NASTY, ZOMGZ

  • very nice, looks difficult to get down tho

  • The monoplata can be very tough to get (Marcelo Garcia is good at it!). I find that from the mount can be easier, but like all moves, some are easier than others.

  • nice

  • This is a great variation of the omoplata, and if they stack when your getting the rubber guard you can use the drop kick sweep from one of your other videos. Thanks for posting.

  • Great, thanks

  • kooool

  • man i need to buy that rubber guard book. I get lost in the mission control, zombie, newyork, chill dog, kungfu move... omfg haha. Nice lock though. Apparently someone in my class is a subscriber to sub 101 because he pulled this on me today while we were rolling.

  • tubular.

  • Wow first to view this awsome submission
