One of the greatest world series ever.... remember meeting Ray Knight in Brooklyn one evening during the playoffs with the Astros..... great memories!
Nice post. People conveniently forget that the series was actually won in 7 games. I'm a life long Mets fan, but leave Bill Buckner alone. But, then again, Fuck the Sawx!
you dont even see comebacks like this during the regular season THE W S???????EVEN IN GAME 7 mets were down 3 zip didnt even sweat it lol came back won it all mets won the w s now i can die in peace
I'll never forget this we were all outside our apt bluidings in manhattan,L.E.S banging on pots and pans shooting off bottle rockets the city was in mass celebration,I'll never forget "it gets through Buckner!!"
Watching the Mets win game 6 in '86 was one of the most incredible moments as a Met fan. The other incredible thing was having a photo taken with Gary Carter. I went to bend down for the photo because he was sitting down signing autographs but he stood up, put his arm around me and smiled into the camera like he just won the World Series again. A truly unbelievable moment for me with an '86 Met. I cherish that photo. Rest in peace Gary, you'll never know what meeting you meant to me.
My absolutely greatest baseball memory ever....I was actually there. Talk about celebration!!! Wish to God I would have kept the stub. Thank You Gary Carter for starting the rally........Rest in Peace.
Gary Carter Gary Carter Gary Carter Gary Carter Gary Carter Gary Carter Gary Carter. R.I.P KID WE LOVE YOU. There will never be another Gary Carter in baseball again.
Gary Carter was exciting and he got the big base hit to start one of the best rallies in world series baseball! very exciting moment. sorry to hear of the loss of gary carter. he will be missed! rest in peace gary. my condolences to his family. i remember him with the expos and the mets. he was one of my favorites to root for! now he is playing for God's team!
Here's how I can remember this game. I was out with the wife and friends celebrating our first wedding anniversary. The game was on the TV over the bar. I couldn't stop watching. It almost caused our first fight, right there in the restaurant in front of our party guests. Fortunately, the wife has the patience of Job, and knew what she was getting when we got together (crazy Mets fan). After the win the band played New York New York for our anniversary dance. All was well with the world.
There are many World Series games on my list of all-time favorites and this is at the top. By no means am I Mets fan being a Phils and A's fan but for the Mets to be down to their last strike of the World Series and comeback to not only win game 6 but game 7 as well, is remarkable. This is what makes baseball so much fun to watch.
Too me it looks as if the ball picked up speed when the ball hit the edge of the grass ??? Secondly, Buckner seems to of taken his eye off the ball being aware
i'm an A's fan but a baseball fan nonetheless. I couldn't imagine the agony I would have had to go through if I were a Boston fan but also the amount of excitement if I were a Mets fan. spectacular comeback as always
Talking about pitching, does anyone remember who the Red Sox pitcher was who gave up the winning run back in 1978 when the Yanks-Red Sox played in that famous one game playoff at Fenway?............none other than Stanley; he gave up an 8th inning homer to Reggie Jackson that proved to be the winning run; yet everyone focus on Dents homer
In all the years i've been listening to Vin Scully (the best), I never heard him raise his voice , with the exception of when Ray Knight scored that winning run in the bottom of that inning
And with the Cardinals winning the World Series on the 25th Anniversary of this epic Red Sox Collapse, 1986 has now come full circle to Baseball in 2011.
@2010metsfan Exactly. They all thought that Buckner cost them the series but he wasn't. Bill Buckner had a great career but somehow gets remembered most for that one play.
And all of this will come full circle if the Cardinals can win Game 7 of the 2011 World Series, only 25 years after this World Series the Red Sox choked.
This was my first World Series I saw on television, ever since I became a big fan of baseball

@pucaracho What an introduction to the game you received... kinda hard not to be baseball a fan after that World Series, no matter who you root for!

Out of all of the guys on the Mets, who else would have started the rally other than the Kid?

You really can't blame Buckner as much as Calvin Schiradli, there's a reason why the Mets got rid of him a season before.

Gutless pitching by the relievers mainly idiot Stanley lost the series not Buckner!

Even if Buckner fielded the ball, he would not have made it to the bag before Wilson. Stanley forgot to cover 1st?
