Ummmm, this is aVIDEO site. Maybe you need to get yourself a radio show or a podcast or just call in your opinion to someone's radio show on the night when they are discussing the subject of tipping with a panel of waiters. This is NOT a video blog you posted, it's just a sound bite, and you could have edited your rap down to about 15 seconds.
robertisjay: The menu at the Lehigh Pub clearly states, "18 percent gratuity added to check of parties of 6 or more." If the customers couldn't agree to those terms, then they should have left and eaten elsewhere.
I live in a large U.S. city and eat out often, and many restaurants have "mandatory gratuity" for large parties (usually 8 or more people). If you disagree with mandatory gratuity, then don't eat at a restaurant that has it.
i get what you are saying but when a company fails to give good service there should be a major deduction who pays for bad service doing the work they get paid to do is a big NONO
robertisjay: If a business gives you bad service, then simply don't return back to that business. Most businesses (especially restaurants) rely on repeat customers.
It is not illegal to not tipping for poor service. To be honest even if the service was great it is still not legally required to tip. This company need to be ashamed of themselves not only for calling the cops but for not apologising to these people and letting this go. I say this as a former server.
Pattydole70: It's not illegal, UNLESS it blatantly states on the menu that there is an 18% surcharge (also known as a "mandatory gratuity" in the restaurant business) added for parties of 6 or more, and you refuse to pay that.

I'd like to throw out there that I'm calling bullshit on this "former server" nonsense. Nobody who's ever worked a tipped position would disagree with the Lehigh Pub's decision.
@robertisjay If you believed that the service was so poor that the restaurant breached the contact, then you work things out with the restaurant. You don't take it onto yourself not to pay a portion of the bill because you felt it was justified.
After all, what's bad service? "My waitress' breasts were too small, so I'm not paying for my lobster" "The service wasn't up to my standards. I expect oral sex during my dessert and didn't get it"
They had 6 people, received service, didn't pay = theft
@yourztruIy if it take a hour or more to get my food shit i could just cook at home for god sake damn you sould see the whole story what happen to the poor people
@TranCendenZ A court case in NY upheld the notion that a gratuity is always voluntary. A man was arrested for paying 10% instead of the 18% for his party of seven when he complained that the service was extremely substandard. However, this only served to give the restaurant the swiftest kick in the ass.

There is NO unless about this. It would not stand up in court PERIOD. Restuarants do not have the legal right to force customers to pay a tip PERIOD.
